It always amazes me how smart the airbus is. TCAS is one of my favourite systems as its such an easy concept but so important

tcas though is obviously not an airbus feature or it would be pretty ineffective up there.

Getting back into flight sim after a long hiatus. Used to just play around with FS2004 as a kid. Into FS2020 now and I'm determined to really learn what it's all about. Airliners have always been my go to so naturally I fell into the A32NX. I just wanted to say I appreciate all your videos so much. It's like a rabbit hole, so many focused topics explained with incredible detail. I love all the real world facts too, even if they don't directly apply to the sim. It's just interesting stuff. You're an excellent teacher and you make learning fun. Keep doing what you do! Happy New Year from Boston, USA

Fantastic demonstration. Just curious, even though likely rare, any limitation on how effective TCAS is in conflicts with two or more planes at the same time?
@jakobbb64052 жыл бұрын
As far as I know (not a real pilot so yeah) it works with any amount of planes. if there is 3 planes one will get maintain callout meaning stay were you are and the other two descend/climb. And I mean more than 3 planes is very unlikely.

Does the MSFS B787 have TCAS fully implemented? It seems there is no "TRAFFIC" alert calling out when there is traffic. RA seems not implemented too.

Could you make a tutorial about the flight director? I understand the it is the part which calculates the desired attitude of the aircraft and the autopilot is following this commands when engaged. But I'm still confused when to disengage FD, why are there two of them when always both should be engaged or disengaged and how do they influence the FMA's? Would be great to learn more about this! Thanks!
@tomstravels5202 жыл бұрын
That’s likely why the A380 and A350 have 2. I’m guessing it was just so if you had one suddenly deviate you could turn off only that one and then hand control to other pilot who could keep theirs on. You turn them off when you are not following their commands. Such as this manoeuvre or flying visually for an approach. After minimums for an RNP approach then FD’s will no longer be in FINAL APP mode and will switch to HDG VS. You don’t want to follow that so you turn them off
@atomicboy89722 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video, I froze on the first flight with the exp Flybywire install watching the tcas alert. After it was over, I thought did the airplane just climb and descend without me?
@shanemcgrath62702 жыл бұрын
Great video mate and thank you. Are there any originating checks that can be done that test that TCAS is operating properly? (showing traffic on ND/simulating callouts). It is a feature I quite like in the CRJ.
@Michael-zf1ko2 жыл бұрын
I think so, but it might not be used by the pilots in the Airbus. I know about the 747 GPWS test which is very similar to the CRJ, but the real world 747 pilots don't use it as a checklist item. It's more for the maintenance crew.
@aerofart2 жыл бұрын
Does TCAS coordinate with TAWS? I realize a proper flight level or altitude should keep the plane from diving into terrain, but what happens under conditions where terrain clearance is less than 1,000 feet? I read something about a T2CAS which I think addresses this but I didn’t read too far into the details.
@salokin12 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Happy New Year. When is the correct moment at the start of the flight to switch the TCAS on?

Typically, just before entering the active runway for takeoff

Hello, can you help? on every airplane I fly I always find "not operative" next to any of the tcas functionalities (along with some others).

Tried the A32NX yesterday and it saved the plane from a direct collision at 37000 feet. ATC gave me wrong directions for the other plane, I couldn't see it because it wasn't there, TCAS decided to climb and I suddenly saw a plane charging around 100 meters directly below the plane at cruise speed. It was ridiculous.
@AirborneAuckland2 жыл бұрын
Excellent video, thank you. I've set up everything and I'm using AIG. I can't get the experimental FBW 32NX to react to the aircraft nearby. Am I doing something wrong?

Does the tcas only give vertical resolutions ?
@iraqiboy90 Жыл бұрын
i dont know if i've missed it in this video, but doesnt TCAS communicates with the other plane' TCAS to coordinate the opposite action? i.e. If your TCAS climbs, the other plane' TCAS will decent? I think i've heard something like this from a plane accident video where the pilots followed ATC's commands to climb or something while the other plane followed the TCAS advisory to climb at the same time resulting in both of them crashing into each other? See video: "Überlingen Collision in Real Time / Air Crash Animation + ATC (2018)"
@Alex-mk5iq2 жыл бұрын
It may sound stupid but would’nt it be quicker to disconnect the autopilot, pitch up and go TOGA when climbing and go idle thrust and pitch down immediately when you are descending, instead of first turning off your fd’s
@tomstravels5202 жыл бұрын
Why would you need to go TOGA for the climb? Turning off the FD’s means you are then in speed mode, the aircraft will maintain the speed varying the thrust automatically. One less thing the pilot has to think about in a high stress situation. All they have to do is pitch up or down

@kameshnatarajan77352 жыл бұрын
Why does MFS2020 does not enable TCAS ? It would be great if you could reply.
@calliace6412 жыл бұрын
ATC is overridden by TCAS because of the 2002 german air disaster. Such a sad story.. If your TCAS is telling you to do something, it’s because ATC hasn’t done their job properly up to that point. All pilots should realize this and complete disregard ATC at that point.

I have a question about the rudder pedals in the aircraft. When the plane is on the ground and my right foot is forward, the planes nose goes right but when the plane is in the air, is the rudder pedals now on a reversed axis? For example, if I put my right foot forward, does the planes nose go left in the air?

I'm new to fs2020 switching from the 737 to the A320 at work. What is the hold up with accurate VNAV and Approaches?
@tomstravels5202 жыл бұрын
They require a lot of data to get correct descent profiles and different speeds, cost index's and how much drag will affect the plane. If the plane cannot calculate the correct T/D then you're either going to spend a lot of time levelling off or diving so fast you'll need the speed brakes out all the time. Especially if there are several speed and altitude constraints to consider.
@David-xl8zf2 жыл бұрын
How come planes have such advanced systems and semis are still stuck with an emergency brake assist that is scared by traffic signs? Imagine how much lives and money you could save if cars had a system to protect you from missing a red light.
