That was my strategy as the Sunderer bus in Planetside 2, constant distraction to the enemy, cheap unit, and in my case if I'm not answered every time I can Deploy and infantry flood.

9:15: if you watch Elagatua's commentary, you will actually see that attacking before capturing the comm tower was deliberate. Reason was to have the option of finishing off the infantry with the infantry that a as capturing the comm tower. The recon's vision of the tank changed this idea.

In the lore, Jake and Jess are best friends since they are both tankers. They have special victory dialogue when they Dual Strike together cementing this. I mention this because its funny how often they fight eachother in Comp.

something that really interests me in AWBW as a starcraft player is that macro is capped by base count. in most RTS games you're able to adjust your macro by just building more production buildings, so throwing away units means something entirely different. where as in awbw youre hard set on your bases, so throwing away a unit or base skipping essentially reduces your macro

Also for most it's easier to tell what is going on at all times, Starcraft high APM matches and an outsider isn't sure what their looking at besides constant multiple screen jumps.

Amazing game! Spoilers ahead: Still cheering for StarFlash, but Elagatua is definitely an incredible player. I also loved that the aggression only stopped at the very end when he secured the comm tower, because of how this map is set up, you don't usually need to pull back because reinforcements are equally far from either side. Also that weak tank block was supreme, especially with how Starflash fumbled it. I think I would've definitely pulled one unit back to deal with it. Another great thing about Elagatua is how he never, ever stopped threatening captures, and it paid off. Like I've been saying over and over, sacrificing a mid-to-late game infantry on a risky capture is never a bad thing; killing an infantry costs at least 2 attacks, sometimes 3! That's three unit turns that your opponent wasted, and on top of that, like we see in this game, those pesky bottom units kept pulling down some of StarFlash's army, therefore making his attacks much less threatening. All in all amazing plays!

Mangs, I largely play advance wars with only two of my friends, and we find an unfortunate drought in 3-player maps and for me, a drought in the dynamics of a 3-player match. I would be super interested in some niche 3-player content. Maybe a tournament, mapping contest, strategy and theory videos for things like a free for all mixed base map, or how to build maps that don't incentivize turtling in these unique formats. I would love if you could direct me to such content or include this as an option in community polls or future content of yours.

I dont play 3-player maps. But a important element of maps with more of two player is the social one. Since is possible that two player team together mid mach agains the player that is winning. Personally i enjoy the diplomatic aspect a lot. But balance the Maps become tricky, especially for some COs. That say i think that the first turn advantage become lets important the more players you add since their own actions and feeling of danger agains other player become more important.

on the surface, I think I understood why elagatua won, 3 or 4 three reasons: 1. Starflash didnt build many AA and also i'm not sure I agree with most of his power activations, a lot of mid turn means he didn't get the most out of them vs Ela 2. Ela was always threatening capture, vs starflash's pushes seemed to mostly be in counter to Elas, he'd get a lot of value but he didn't threaten many cities. Ela was constantly capping and putting pressure on the comm towers 3. chip value lead through really ingenious play, such as the tank blocking and repositioning. Gives small value but added up over the course of the game makes a big difference. 4. The perfect tech up to have 2-3 turns of uncontested neo was pretty great as a finishing blow.

Many already pointed it out, but yeah, he attacked before capping the com tower to gauge what units were coming first. It is worth pointing out that this version of the map has the com towers neutral and not pre captured. The older version with the precapped towers left a lot of room for too much cheese in the early game, this version of the map is much better for actual tactics like what was shown well in this match.

Do you feel like StarFlash also played this match rather "badly" or is this just what you might think when you have no fog vision etc?

i don't think starflash was playing bad, i think he was gambling because he was trying to establish a board advantage by overwhelming me with tanks. starflash and i had played a game immediately before this game where i delayed getting air for a pretty long time in favor of spamming more tanks, so perhaps he thought i would do the same thing this game.

Why is top the weak side for red? I would have said it's the opposite. Red has a factory and an airport on top as well as more space to maneuver because he is not funneled into a chocke by that pipe and he has a road leading to the middle. I suppose his factory is slightly further in the back compared to the top right side factory.

Two factories are always on the "strong" side. As good as airfields are they can't produce units that capture bases. Also your main force will always be mass land units. Until your economy booms you won't even produce air units and even toward the end you might see air units not being produced every turn depending on if they bought a neotank that turn or not 24:10 Meanwhile you will see factories produce units every turn with the rare exception in the start of the match if someone overspends for a big unit but that's rare. it didn't happen this match

I'm sorry to disapoint you mangs but you might be wrong here, maybe he initialy wanted to kill the infantry and put his infantry on the city to prevent a counter attack from and eventual tank, so he attacked first with recon, saw that he didn't need to bother because he could have first strike with his own tank, then decided to complete the com tower capture instead of securing the city. Or maybe he just misplayed, we'll never know.

First, Starflash *needed* anti-air to respond to those copters, so it was coming. But secondly, it works to delay *whatever* Starflash was sending that way. It blocks the base build from reaching the front regardless.
