I really like what it did to that synth around 7:45. This sort of use is most likely how I'll use it. I'm glad you showed some of it's more creative uses. I'm pretty excited for all this haha. I just got a One Plus last month and got Jura, Opx-4, Stage Piano, Stage Electric Piano, and Flavor Pro. I noticed someone else also asked about Push 3 in comparison and I'm also curious about that! I would love to try a Push 3 some day, but I couldn't afford that haha.

I have it. It’s not the EQ filter we were all hoping for, wish it was. It’s kind of more, yet less, more to lo-fi your sounds than hi-fi them. A common theme with the MPC standalone, mainly as the MPC is locked into the ancient 1980’s tradition of 44.1kHz. This is ok as a delivery format, but no engineer works in such a low sample rate …if you do you end up accentuating low resolution, or lack of high frequencies (that might not be directly audible but are essential for processing to avoid harsh robotic aliasing). If lo-fi is your thing the MPC is very good, many will say the MPC sounds amazing, but stuck at 44.1kHz it’s right on the cusp, add radical audio processing and it falls below the cusp to lo-fi. If Akai could bring out a 96kHz machine, wow that would be good, and now essential in 2025. Old samples would need up-sampling in the box, but that could work. All the expansion packs for sale would though on the whole be ancient history, and an opportunity for Akai to start selling a new era of 96kHz expansions, …so it could also be lucrative for Akai and give us audio engineers and nerds the quality we need - and that other companies already offer.
@robinr229 күн бұрын
I'm guessing but I wager that 99% of MPC products are sold to people like me who just jam out on them in their bedroom. There's no value to upspeccing them to meet the needs of professional engineers - that's not the user base.
@juliansimmons77009 күн бұрын
@@robinr22 ...yes I've come to realise that. The NI Maschine does run at 96kHz though, and ADC/DAC 96kHz chips are cheap. Music for film is 48kHz, and there is an audible difference between 44.1 and 48kHz, more than the numbers would suggest. I can also clearly hear the difference between 48kHz and 96kHz, though that said I often work at 192kHz for my specialist sound processing day job. 44.1kHz is an ok basic final delivery rate but really doesn't cut it for anything before that (and why early CDs re/mastered in the 1980's often sound so bad). But now is now, and 44.1kHz is as you say, bedroom level quality. I don't want to name drop, but just to prove the point, Richard James said to a friend of mine that he used to work at 88.2kHz, as it was exactly double that of the delivery format of the time - CD's at 44.1kHz. 88.2kHz gives room for processing, then a clean 1/2 down-sampling result to 44.1kHz. This is exactly how I record basic material now (unless I need 192kHz), I record at 88.2 or 96kHz (for film at 48kHz). Anyway, the MPC Standalone is ok if you lean toward lo-fi sound, which many many do, degradation is gaining momentum these-days as a form of authenticity. Limitations are all good and fine if they are wanted or embraced, and not a surprise.

Great video @MidlifeSynthesist 👍🏻. I’ve noticed that your MPC seems to be getting a lot more action than your Push 3 - if you had to choose between them, which would you go for?
@MidlifeSynthesist11 күн бұрын
I ping pong between them for different purposes! The Push 3 wins in the MPE department and I can have infinite number audio clips, so I tend to grab it if I’ll be doing lots of audio recording. MPC is my go to for piano nowadays and sequencing both internal plugins and external synths its great! Love em both but I’m planning to make a full video comparison when MPC 3 is no longer Beta👍🏼 thanks for watching!

You need to register for the free code. You then get an email with the free promo code. You go over to the store and buy it for $99, enter the code, so -$99 = $0. Enter your email the MPC is registered to, then proceed. It should now show up - for free on your MPC. It’s apparently only free for 3 days.
