Question: if you choose to exile The Balrog of Moria, can you return it to your command zone and still benefit from the latter effect of the card?

I think that even if you choose return it to the command zone, it was exiled first and you can benefit from the latter part of the effect

Yes, the rulings changed so that moving a commander to the command zone allows it to touch the graveyard or exile first so that abilities like this work

Saruman is bloody insane from playtesting. And by whatever god or gods may be out there I hate him. Just give the grixis control player a commander that makes them a renewable beatstick for playing their deck.

Treasure tokens are definitely the route as a commander he's pretty weak, but in the 99 in the right deck he could be busted. The reaver cleaver or a smothering tithe could definitely get you there. :)

@@decktechsfordecks ye that's what I was thinking also, as a 99 you could very well be discarding and reanimating him or cheat him in play in some way that you could not from the command zone to get 2 reanimate at the price of one and all other etb's, I'm just not a big fan that's all
