Saka even made hands before it, so most definitely, no penalty. And even the last goal by England (even tough it was a nice goal) was set up by the referee, which gave 3 fouls to a Dutch player that did absolutely nothing wrong in a row in the last 5 minutes or so... this way obviously the Dutch pressure got stopped and the English got their free chance, then made good use of it. All in all an obvious robbery. It should have been the Netherlands in the final.

To be fair, something can be said for both viewpoints. First half England was clearly better, but second half the Dutch were the more threatening team, with some excellent saves by the English goalkeeper. I think it's stupid to say the Dutch were furious, they were more disappointed in the moment. And whereas the English have had some luck with these decisions falling their way, the Dutch have both in WC and EC matches had the decisions consistently fall against them. Match could have gone either way. Both teams played the best match they played so far and it was a good match to watch unlike the Argentine Dutch match, which was a terrible clusterfuck with a Spanish referee speaking Spanish with the Argentine players..

The law states that any player who lunges in with studs showing is yellow/red card offence. The Dutch player raised his foot with his studs showing. This is regarded as dangerous play. That's why it was deemed a penalty.

I only mention this because I was a central defender and all I can say the Dutch defender was attempting to play the ball and not the man. It was Kanes follow through that brought him into contact with the defender. The ball deviated from its true path indicating that the defender did actually make contact with the ball. No Penalty.

@trancemb Okay I'll give a more grown up response, I've watched the incident over and over and it's not clear if the ball touched Saka's hand, even if it did it doesn't mean it was handball and much depends on the ref's interpretation of the rules, was it intentional? Did he gain control of the ball? The way the ball was spinning and the way it looped up it's impossible to say, without the use of the snickometer we can't even be sure there was contact, however we certainly didn't need the snickometer to know that Dumfries studs were raised and made clear contact with Kane's foot, if he'd got something on the ball then fine but he didn't.

Why would England have won without the penalty? As more time went on... they played worse and worse. The Dutch had the upper hand for most of the second half, and England needed the ref to call for 3 non-existing fouls of a Dutch player in a row in the last 5 minutes or so to turn the game around and finally get that chance to score.. If it was 1-1 and it went to extra time, i'd say the Dutch were on their way to victory. But we will never know, as the ref/var decided England should move on to the finals.

For once, I agree with Gary Neville. Never a penalty. Simply saying that the better team won is a bollocks comment. Football is notoriously fickle. Ball in the net, and the decisions that lead to them, are what's important. And that decision for Kane was just wrong. He had already hit the ball, and the connection from Drumfries did not affect that. At worst, it was an indirect free kick.

Wrong, the defenders studs didn’t hit Kane, Kane hit the defenders studs. Pretty significant difference. Dumfries blocked, didn’t have his leg stretched, Kane followed through on a mid air ball and then hit Dumfries. In no way that is dangerous play from the defender and in no universe should that ever be a penalty.

If you read the IFAB laws, there is nothing that says it is only classified as a foul if the contact is made intentionally by the player with the studs up. Dumfries wants to try to block the shot with his studs up? Okay, although technically that's an IFK offence if another player is going for the ball. But when Kane's follow-through makes contact, it becomes a contact foul by Dumfries, EVEN IF DUMFRIES DIDN'T INTEND THAT CONTACT. It's very similar to the "hands in a natural position" logic with handballs. Even if you didn't intend it, it's on you if it happens. DFK foul, in the area, thus a penalty. That's why the VAR team brought it to the referee's attention.

England has better players now ...better as in tecnical skills and pure football abilities; Foden, Saka, Bellingham. There seems to be a better mix of abilities in each position. they were better in the first half, not as much in the second.

Obviously it's not a CLEAR handball ...the angle in this video does not 100% show a handball as its from behind the player so can be misconstrued....however if you watch the USA coverage they had 3 angles of it and 1 of them actually does CLEARLY show it didn't hit his hand....do your research before calling people idiots instead of relying on a video that is not a clear angle at all

There's nothing wrong with the win..only that penalty and some dubious decision by the ref. England got lucky this time , as we did in previous matches. So nothing lost there.
