Hi! I use new AT6666 Pro since 1 week and the temperature is really hot! With 15W in SSB it's impossible to touch the radiator with my hand!!! I hope that IRF520 mosfet are strong as far as the technical conception!! Best 73'sss Fred FRANCE

@@14fdx088 I was wondering about the new AT6666 Pro if it gets hot like the AT6666 original radio.You just answered that question. I have a friend using the AT6666 original radio and he says it gets plenty warm unless he keeps a fan running on it. He's using it as a base.I was hoping they corrected this issue with the new AT6666 Pro model. I'm no tech, but looks to me heat can be a problem long term. Just my opinion.

It gets hot because the chassis is small and he needs to dissipate on the heat sink. The reason the QT60/5555NII doesn't get as hot is because the chassis is much larger. I've never heard of anyone having a original Quad 6 fail from it getting hot on the heat sink. This is a normal thing and that's why the heat sink is so beefy on the Q6 Pro.

@@ScottsRadios I agree with you, I haven't heard of any failures so far on the AT 6666 due to heat. Although it just seems to stand to reason that excessive heat to the point that touching the heat sink being to hot to touch is not a good thing. Personally I really like the new AT 6666 Pro, but I was concerned about the heat issue.

@@ScottsRadiosit gets HOT because it’s doing the deal 🎙️🎙️🎙️ lol have seen test where those things have been keyed up going on almost 130° or more and not failed.

My QT 60 does not heat up that much at all even working digital modes. First my SWR is nice and low. under 1:5 and second I keep my power way down. Especially on digital modes with Digi Rig. Duty cycle is a big part. Waiting on 10/11/12 get going again. I see lots of commits on the AT 6666 getting hot. just keep SWR nice and low. keep power down and watch your duty cycle. The bigger ones have more heatsink. Inside the radio is a aluminum U as part of chassis with heat sink attached to back. Longer radio the U part is bigger. That works with the heatsink on back. You can put small fan on back. That will help. Make Sure you have air circulation around back of radio. The finals in radio make power out and heat. This not only Anytone. all radios do this. Using good power cable helps as well. Voltage drop can make more heat and can cause clipping on RF signal at high power levels . Use like 14 AWG or bigger wire when using a radio like this. Longer wire more voltage drop. use bigger wire and OFC or pure copper. stay away from CCA power wire. This not 4 watt CB. 18 AWG wire just too small. A clean signal get out better that more watts. just dropping your power a few watts makes radio run much cooler and no one on receiving end will ever know. Need more power use a amp . run it about 50% rated power and you can talk all day without the heating issue. Been doing this since the later 1970;s. Back then most amps were tube and keep drive down tubes last much longer . today is BJT or FET . they still heat up. Have fun with radio !

Good advice.

Why is it the Anytone 6666 gets so warm/hot even in say SSB mode? I have the AT 5555N2 and I don't see this heat issue at all. I'm looking now at the AT6666 Pro possibly for mobile use since it's a lot smaller radio.

Because the casing and the physical size of the AT-5555 NII is larger. The heat has more room to dissipate. Heat has never been an issue with the original Quad 6 and I don't assume it will be with the Pro version.

@@ScottsRadios I wonder if the new AT 5555N2 short version chassis will have a issue with heat sink getting real hot?
@ScottsRadios2 ай бұрын
@@NLINE7 so overall case is still bigger than Quad 6 Pro for heat dissipation.

@@ScottsRadios Personally I like the lay out position of the controls of the AT 5555N2 the best. To me if the manufacturer would have just included the color change display and backlit push buttons it would have been perfect for me. Both the Anytone 5555N2 and the Anytone 6666 are excellent sounding radios in my opinion.
