This update is wild because it's pretty substantial overall (storage doubled, current gen processor, improved cooling, updated remote, HDR10+ support) at a $50 DECREASE... If I had the 2021 model I wouldn't be upgrading however, but as an owner of the 2017 4K model I will definitely be picking one up Friday.

Just gotta say, I’ve been an Apple TV user for many years and I’ve never once thought man, I wish this were more smooth. It’s great to have the faster processor. But if you’re not playing games or something like that, I really can’t imagine being able to tell the difference in day to day use.

Try using an Nvidia Shield the one that's shaped like a tube. You'll take those words back very quickly. That thing is so laggy and unresponsive. It's why I'm looking into this Apple TV.

Just wished the upper tier one would support DTS (DTS:X included) & TrueHD audo format. Then I could have one box to rule them all. But for now, it'll continue to be the NVIDIA SHIELD TV Pro (2019) for Plex support and Apple TV 4K (2021) for everything else. Don't see a huge reason to upgrade from that. Also to note the Ethernet is only 1 Gbps, you're better off using the WiFi speeds if you have at least a WiFi 6 router. Once you open the floodgates with your boy, it won't stop haha. The Siri results where it does a universal search and you can play shows off of multiple different apps/networks is a feature that the other reviews didn't tell me about. Wow that is amazing, my smart tv stock apps doesn't even do that. I think I'm sold!

Atv on first night watching Apple TV+ the movie went black with no sound for 2 seconds. After watching various movies on various streaming services this happens all around. Netflix, Disney, HBO Max Etc. Reset Atv to factory and after the long setup as I’m watching Netflix this happen twice AGAIN ! anyone know if it’s hardware or software ? Please help !! Really annoying that this would happen on a device that isn’t even a week old.

Mine is on preorder. I only use TV apps, my 1st gen 4K box is struggling with 4K Dolby vision/Atmos/HomePod So upgrade is due now. But I’m only going for 64gb model. Not bothered with thread or Ethernet. Like I said I only download apps for TV and that’s it. No games. Plus my Eero and HomePod & HP Mini have thread/matter support anyway. Also! Has anyone noticed the two screws at the bottom of the remote where usb c connector is….I swear they didn’t have that with lightening but can’t say for sure! 😂

One big benefit is playing my Movies that are stored on a NAS server, there is an app called Infuse and all my 4k movies are organised and easy to watch on my Projector. Another thing is the picture quality is awesome on my Projector

I have a HD version of the Apple TV. It is still good. I think it’s the 4th gen. I got it before they came out with the 4K and new Siri remote. So guessing 2 or 3 years ago. Is it worth the upgrade to the $150 thread version though. I mainly use the Apple TV for music playing and watching some shows before I go to bed. ThatApple TV is connected to a Samsung tv. But I mainly have a smart tv in my other room that has the Apple TV app on it already.

If you don’t have any Thread accessories or use Ethernet, then that model obviously isn’t worth it. Upping to the WiFi only would be worth it though

Since Samsung Tv's dont have Dolby Vision, when I watch content through Apple TV, it will use the Dolby Vision from that device when I'm watching through the Samsung TV If that's my understanding of it?

I have an Apple TV 4K (2021) and I will be sticking with it. I have a Philips 55OLED707 TV and it has HDR10+ Adaptive built in. Apart from the CPU upgrade, the only major difference is that the 2022 version will have HDR10+ where as the 2021 does not have it.

Visuals and playback is all up to the tv that you have. This Apple TV 4K is a lot more optimized than your tv UI. Every app will work smoother but not necessarily better. It’s not necessary at all if you have a pretty new tv but it’s nice regardless

I just ordered this because I got a Hisense U8H for cheap. Has HDR10+ and 120hz, all the bells and whistles and I figured my first gen Apple TV 4K wouldn’t work with something in that newer setup. Seems like I got the right choice, also I’m surprised how both models are cheaper than my first gen 4K, I spent 200$ for 64GB. Though I think removing the ethernet port’s a terrible decision, for twenty bucks less too?

The best thing about this new ATV 4K is that now you can get the previous version for $100 if you shop around. I actually prefer the lightning connector for the remote because my iPhone and iPad 9 still have lightening so no extra cable laying around. I’ve had ATV for a couple of years and more storage really hasn’t been a concern.

Eh, my iPhone and AirPods are the only devices I own that use anything other than USB-C now. So at this point, the lightning cable is just an extra cable lying around. Either way, the remote's battery lasts a long time, you'll hardly ever need to charge it anyway so the different cable is such a small difference

One huge letdown is that you can’t download your iTunes movies for offline viewing - like you can on Mac and even iPad. 128GB would be enough space to download a good chunk of the 250+ movies I’ve purchased over the years- which would be hella nice to be able to bring to a friends or families house to watch, w/o tying up their internet. Apple should add this and also up the max resolution from 1080p to 4k for offline downloads. You could easily fit 20+ 4k movies on it.

I bought two Apple TV 4K, but I haven't been able to download any application for two months because both devices keep saying that I can't connect to the App Store (Apple can't help with that). I recommend other products like the NVIDIA Shield.
