Seamless move. I find the bigger the net the easier it is to catch the fish without stress. Like you said they just swim right in and are caught 😊

I chased our first batch around the tank but learned very quickly this was less stressful for all involved. Hope all's well with you Jennifer.

Rob what do you think of cone bottom tanks for the SLO tanks, good idea or not?
@RobsAquaponics Жыл бұрын
They're a great idea if you can source one suitable for your build. 👍 I was gifted a tall cone based settler drum but haven't had the chance to use it yet due to its height.

Where do you get the media that you use in the grow beds?
@RobsAquaponics Жыл бұрын
The plants are growing in a fired clay pebble called Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate or LECA for short. LECA is used mainly in hydroponic & aquaponic growing systems & can be purchased in bulk from most hydroponic & some landscaping firms Gerard. There are lightweight natural options available as well like expanded shale & volcanic rocks like pumice & scoria that folks will use. Hope that helps mate.

G'day Rob. I'm in the process of starting to design myself a large lot of garden beds and trying to decide if it would be more economical for me to use all standard soil garden raised garden beds or use a aquaponic system to grow leafy and root vegetables and just use soil beds for my fruiting vegetables. I'm disabled and in a wheelchair so I also have to take into account a limited budget being on a pension and also making my vegetable growing as wheelchair friendly as possible. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. 😊
@RobsAquaponics Жыл бұрын
I would suggest starting with soil &/or hydroponics first if you're new to growing veggies. 👍 Once you get a handle on that you could add fish into the mix. Wicking beds are a great way to grow using soil & are typically made in raised bed configurations. I hope that helps some.

Good day Rob and as always, thank you for the videos. I have a curiosity question. When you move out to the farm are you going to harvest the fish you have now and start out with fingerlings or transport the fish out to the new farm?
@RobsAquaponics Жыл бұрын
Het Stacie. We're planning on giving these fish away & starting with locally sourced fingerlings once we move. 👍 We might harvest a few for ourselves but we also have a freezer full of meat we need to eat out before we go as well.

Nice setup, though I'd be very curious to see test results for pfas from your fish. Perhaps try to see if a local university or such would be willing to test for you. That's a lot of plastic.
@RobsAquaponics Жыл бұрын
I dare say any levels in the food from this system would be WAY lower than the food prepared on most no stick cookware or from takeaway containers/wrappers & coffee cups. I think I saw that all the wonderful paper straws that are going to save the environment (so people at tossing as they're paper & "will decompose") are full of them too so they will last longer & not go soggy. We live in very "strange times".

Hello Rob, I see that this biofilter have a bit different in and out that previous one. Is there a reason you have changed it?
@RobsAquaponics Жыл бұрын
It was due to the height in the drains. I'll run through it in todays video for you. 😉👍 Hope to have it posted to YT some time tomorrow.

@RobsAquaponics Жыл бұрын
They are all over the 500g/1lb mark with some being twice that weight Joseph. All pretty much could be harvested now but they get to live a bit longer as we're more focused on moving to a far we just purchased. I'm gifting these to a friend to run his system.
