Oh yeah it is, Eric! Couldn't believe my luck when I found it. Since I have the one I'm restoring I might not build the NIB one for quite some time, BUT I might do a quick unboxing very soon (maybe this week) just to let some people see inside the box as it seems a few people are interested in the Pegasus. 👍

Nice one Mick, l am so interested in the kyosho Pegasus its has a similar charm to me like the fantastic legendary tamiya Grasshopper! Budget basic buggies for sure true but very special all the same! The Pegasus is well expensive over here on eBay in the UK and rarely see them and if they do come up they're in really bad condition! I will bag one some day though!😉 l can't believe you have NIB Mick! Awesomeness!!!😁 I have never seen the Pegasus in the (flesh "plastic" lol) to touch Mick, one question about the front suspension! is it a plastic flex movement design? I know it has a friction shock but that plastic across the top has me thinking! I just love the wired design though but in reality l imagine its probably crap in truth but really interesting all the same! Very nice mate l can't wait to see the running vid! See if that suspension has any real movement! Great stuff again mate😉👍
@RCHobbyShed
@RCHobbyShed 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. I've always though they were kinda cool. A friend at school had one back in the day, I thought it was awesome at the time. I know what you mean about price, this pair weren't cheap and I can't find them in Australia. The NIB one came from Japan and if I remember rightly the used one came from Italy. I agree mate, most of the used ones are pretty shagged, I was lucky with this one. Apart from some gravel scratches on the bottom it's quite clean. Yes that right, the suspension arms just flex at the bulkhead joints, no hinge pins. The suspension is a little stiff because of that, and I don't mean from age, they were just always like that. BUT, to this day I've never heard of them breaking at those joins, which is pretty cool. I mean they may well break there, but I haven't heard of it. The Icarus shares the same design but the Cosmo has hinge pins, so is really the best one of the three. Hoping to smash out the resto this week, it really doesn't need anything replaced, but will strip it for a clean and add bearings and radio. Then Paint it and it'll be ready for action... After we get out of lockdown 😂 Thanks mate! 👍

@@RCHobbyShed Thanks for the info Mick the front suspension always had me intrigued! Plus thanks for clearing up how you are getting these rare buggies because l thought you could buy them at will over there the amount you had bought so far mate lol😄 But l see not the case! Yeah l wonder why they are so rare and hard to get hold of?? Being a budget buggy back in the day l would imagine good sales and many being sold? Should be loads kicking about still but definitely not the case! Maybe they did not sell in big numbers? Maybe being a beginner buggy lots ended up in the bin? Who know? But bloody expensive to buy now lol..but l will bag one at some point!😉👍 Hopefully your lockdown will end soon? We are out of lockdown just about now and hopefully will stay that way but they keep banging on about a 3rd spike?? Anyway great stuff and loving the content of your vids mate great stuff cheers James😁👍

@@mad-beerc3818 No probs mate. I'll try to get some clear footage up close during the resto so you can have a good look at the suspension. Oh yeah, I buy them from all over the world. The shipping is usually a high price but for cars I know I can't get anywhere else I dig a bit deeper in the pocket lol. I think it wasn't a huge seller due to the offerings from Tamiya at the time that were a little cheaper. I think the Pegasus was around the same price as a Hornet at the time and lot of people would have said "but the Hornet has oil shocks on the rear" lol. Also I think the flexible suspension parts would have worried a lot of people too, thinking it would break quickly. 🤷‍♂️ I hope it end soon too mate, they just extended it another week. Our lot is also going on about a wave. We wait n see I guess. Thanks mate. Hoping to have this resto out this week. 👍

@@RCHobbyShed Yeah cool Mick a close look would be great l look forward to the vid! Yeah tamiya really had this end of the market nailed back then! I think maybe l will start looking further away for a Pegasus but funds are tight at moment l have recently bought a Frog! Working on it as we speak! Love the ORV designed chassis on these and the boxart is a favourite of mine on the Frog! The Frog even makes pink look cool!😉👍Very enjoyable buggy to work on too! If I had to guess, the body used for the mold was probably damaged there. All the Kyosho bodies like that were bad about ripping out there.

Those shock mounts doesn't look particularly strong so id avoid jumping this too much these days, Handles way better then a Tamiya Hornet or Grasshopper for sure having independent suspension all around. Maybe you can make something bending a bit of steel or aluminum if it breaks ? I would try a 27t motor in this, perhaps with a bit adjustable timing or a 20t, it probably came with a 35t which even for a beginner would quickly be easy too control. Do stick some very fine grit sandpaper on a flat screwdriver, spin the motor with a drill or similar & polish the collector clean if you want too re-use the original motor, should freshen it up a bit. For the front ball end popping off easily on the lower front arm maybe you can fill that in around the edge with something like clear superglue & then sand/file it down until it pops into place and stays there a bit better while staying smooth for suspension travel ? If you don't mind moving away from this front suspension setup you can look after a Kyosho Cosmo it has proper A arms in the front end, might be hard too find parts tree though and might need too source an entire car or at least a chassis with the front end intact. Kind of like the grey wheels though, maybe it's not that great outside of the camera on the finish like they were painted with a paintbrush or has chipped off quite a bit. Maybe too add a bit of flare too them you could do them white & have a mm wide red stripe on the outer edge of the rim too tie in with the decals on the body ?

I have a few sets of shock towers, not that I plan to jump it much anyway. I'm usually careful with the vintage cars, and although I did say it will be a runner it really won't get much use. Oh yeah they handle much better than a Hornet or Grasshopper, a mate use to race one back in our school days. It handled quite well for a beginners buggy. The standard motor which it has now is a 27t, Mabuchi rs540. I'm thinking I may go a little hotter, maybe a LeMans motor but I'll have to go digging through my stuff lol. Cleaning the commutator is always a good idea on the old cars, it will give it a new least on life for sure. 👍 I think I have the parts for the front end to stop the ball popping out, will have to find them too. Although it did take a bit of effort to get it back in in the video. It maybe be OK as it is, not perfect, just OK lol. I think the grey wheels don't look too bad either. I will strip them though and I want it to look box art. Thanks for the suggestions and thanks for taking the time to comment. 👍
