As I often say about going to see the Stones despite their age, “if you were told you could only see Willie Mays play during his time with the Mets, you’d still go because the flashes of greatness would still shine through on occasion.” Same for the Stones! #RIPCharlieWatts

Yea Mike saw the Stones in Miami right after the show you saw, and they were excellent. Every band no matter age has off nights on tour. I have seen the Stones 20 times going back to 1989 and I put that show right up there with the best. After the show everyone was just looking at each other like wow that was incredible. Still can not believe it was Charlie Watts last show. I think all of us in the Stones family are shocked.

I love your videos Mike. I love your recommendations. The "new arrivals" videos are my favorite. I've ordered from you a couple times. You help make vinyl collecting fun again. In case you care... When Ascension, the Miles soundtrack was first issued, most of us know it had a nice reverb that fit the music perfectly. THen when the CD's came out, the reverb was gone. Big mistake. Does this LP have the reverb back in?

Hey Mike you mentioned somewhere that you are still expecting to be supplied with Blue Note Classic Series "Moanin" (and I guess the same applies to "Something Else"). I have been waiting for a both these, pre-ordered with another reseller. I was starting to think they were going to be a no-show and I missed my chance to get these records. Do you think there is still reason to hold out hope?... Another question... You see these cheap re-issues on labels like Wax Time and Groove Replica. Do you know anything about these labels?

I first saw the Stones in ‘94 on the Voodoo Lounge Tour, and I’ve seen them about 6 more times since. Always a great time. The ‘82 Tattoo You tour rivals anything live musically one can come up with, for me. I think they are the greatest rock and roll band ever. I saw Prince a couple of times, fantastic shows, I think he’s one of the greatest musicians ever. And I’ve seen Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band several times in person, along with countless times via concert film. In my opinion, Bruce and E Street are the greatest live show that’s ever been. But you gotta like Bruce’s music to even start that conversation. The Who ‘89 show I saw was a blast. Anyway, just my subjective opinions. Appreciate the discussion, great vid. RIP, Charlie. 🙏🏽

I’ve often said the same thing about the Stones. I’ve seen countless bands. NONE of them touch the Stones live. I think I’ve seen them 6 or 7 times and literally all of those shows are my top 6 or 7 shows I’ve seen ever.

Just paid $300 for that Japanese Chet Baker Memories NM. It’s the arguably him at his very best, at the very end. It has almost blue on it which is an Elvis Costello track that is essentially the best thing he ever recorded. Im also sick to my stomach that my “grail” just got repressed and can be gotten for $52. At a complete loss for words really. Welcome to collecting records I guess.

Love Stones and Prince, but I’m with you. I only started seeing him in ‘99 during the Reunion tour, and several times since, all great, but I missed the REAL good stuff from Darkness/River/BITUSA tours, blame it on being too young to go. Thankfully there’s so much footage and pristine audio available from those tours, and yeah, nobody comes close. Would take his peak against anyone at theirs in a live performance.

Sorry to disagree but The Rolling Stones are gone now. In fact, they have been now for a long time. It’s a big, corporate circus with old men sucking a few more dollars out of the marketplace. Save your money. Watch a video of the Some Girls tour and enjoy. What was is now over. But...there was a time. There was a time when those five men made the world shake in fear, and lust and satisfaction. Indeed, they did.
@Groover713 жыл бұрын
The Some Girls Tour was actually not great. I have the Handsome Girls box and that’s probably as good as it gets when it comes to a chronicle of that tour, but THAT tour was definitely a money grab. The Stones in ‘78 were booze and drugged up and barely standing every night of that tour. And the music revealed that. The Tattoo You Tour completely destroys it. They invented the modern day stadium tour with that one. As for now? They’re wealthy. Do they HAVE to tour? Probably not. Would Charlie want them to keep going? Of course he would. So I say go for it. Who are we to tell them no? If you don’t like it, don’t buy a ticket. Easy enough.

@@Groover71 again, sorry to disagree but the Stones after Some Girls are no longer an actual band. They became a shell. An enhanced corporate money machine without soul or blood. I’ll take the beautifully ragged vocals of Jagger And the drugstore riffs of Woody and Richards. In 78 they were a band. Musically fueled by the danger punk and the decadence Studio 54. Those performances are the most brilliant and interesting rock concerts I’ve ever seen and heard. Glory. Some Girls was the last truly great spark from the world’s greatest rock n roll band. In comparison, Tattoo You was a stadium bore that was a ghost of their past. And moving forward would only make makers worse. Sorry. Jagger and Richards became cartoon character of themselves. Completely devoid of the chemistry between them that made the entire globe bend to their will and power. Bless them for all they have given.
