That was so fun! I really enjoyed watching this video! Some day, I would love to visit England. I would love to go to an art festival like this and a garden tour. As long as there would be lots of stops to have my beloved earl grey tea😊. Those crystal watercolor thingies 😋 look very exciting to me! Of course, I would love to take an in person class from you too! Great fun!😊✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

I wish they had such things in my area. Another great video! I just received your Painting on Canvas. And Painting Animals books. I'm thrilled, and can't wait to paint. I read through them both the same day, lol very informative and I absolutely love your style of painting. Thank you for sharing with us.

Thank you so much for this video Liz, well done for not buying everything you wanted. I was very excited to learn about Jackman's Crystalline Watercolour, I have no idea how I missed this until now. I stopped your video, rushed over to Jackman's website, used the welcome code and ordered a set of five, so exciting that they are pigment based. I am sure I will be back for more supplies from Jackman's. ProArte are my favourite brushes, I only use synthetic, so it was great to see them on your video as well. I did come back to watch the rest of this video.

I’d love to go to Patchings, but I should have made the journey down from Scotland whilst I was still able to drive. I always wanted to visit Patchings in particular because, no matter the weather (the Scots are used to varying degrees of rain 😁), that entire area of England is beautiful sadly, it is fast becoming so scarce in England. I enjoyed the tour very much! I have several Jackmans products in my stash, and love the very friendly, family feel of the company. The watercolours and Crystaline (much superior to Brusho I feel) as great fun to play with. This is a very long post, but I wanted to say thank you for taking us around with you for a tour. Also, congratulations on taking one of the coveted demonstrator positions. I love your poster!! Is it waterproof? How about putting it along a fence in your stunning garden? You could eventually allow the plants to gradually incorporate it as though it had always been there! No one need see it but you, and what a lovely physical reminder of your time. 👏🏻💜 Due to a Neurological issue causing blips in my awareness I was not aware of (no pun intended), I chose to give up my much cherished license for fear of spoiling my unblemished driving record of 38 years. I had such a lovely new (my third) wheelchair adapted vehicle that allowed me to drive for several hundreds of thousand miles easily, bump free and was incredibly cleverly adapted for me by the Motability charity at no cost to me - not many know there is the usual Motability leasing section run as a business, but for us non-walking wounded they have a charitable aspect. They have spent so much on me alone over the years, I squirm a lot when I add it up. Without them though, I would have been in my current situation long ago - about 27 years ago to be precise. I am only now 57, and feeling more than a little cut off from events such as these as they are held in areas best reached by car. My main mode of transport these days is the train, and say what you like about trains in the UK, but I love them dearly for developing amazing wheelchair spaces over the last decade. I travel between Aberdeen and London, and everywhere between on the very swish Azusa trains. I occasionally grab a first class ticket for very little more than standard. I like to imagine I am on The Orient Express, keeping my eyes peeled for the shifty looking person! Sorry I am now simply being silly, but I do love to travel, and I do miss my beloved Scottish mountains… 🤷‍♀️👩🏻‍🎨🎨🖌️🥰🥰

not being silly at all! A vivid imagination, is a must. It is a wrench to have to give up the independence of a car and yes, Motability do some brilliant things. nice to hear something positive about the trains, for once too x

I'm another mad lady who said hello 😂 I've been twice before to Patchings and Love the proarte stall. I got a travel brush for £1 and a set of silicone painting tools for £5. They're like mini spatulas! I loved your bookmark demo but I did draw the line at £7.95 for the hanemule bookmark pad of 15 sheets. Cutting up paper is so much cheaper!

Black sable is most likely from the Russian Polecat, also known as the Steppe Polecat, which is an endangered species. Kolinsky black sable is often from this animal. Kolinsky black sable brushes were once banned from import into the USA for a while due to non compliance with CITES regulations. I don't know why the Pro Arte guy was so vague about saying what black sable is. There is a great deal of cruelty involved in both the wild and farmed fur industry from which hair for brushes is "harvested" Commonly "sable" comes from mink, weasels, ferrets and polecats. Many types of natural hair brushes are labelled vaguely. I guess not to put people off buying them. Maybe a video about natural/synthetic brushes, their different qualities and the ethics would be a good idea? I know most people wouldn't dream of buying a mink coat but many artists are happy to buy sable brushes. I promise you I am not a PETA extremist, but I do believe we can make more informed choices if we given honest information.
@LizChadertonArt
@LizChadertonArt 2 ай бұрын
agree 100% which is why I asked (and also why I don’t use sable). I would be wary about buying a natural hair brush without knowing the origin, though I did try it and the brush held so much fluid…it was lovely. I generally use synthetics, though I did buy the goat hair mop brushes…. I would have to be feeling brave to make a film about synthetics vs hair! I usually point out the difference to my students and say they should examine the ethics to reach their own conclusion.

@@LizChadertonArtvery well put Liz. Perhaps simply make a video on the amazing variety and quality of fully synthetic brushes that are extremely good at holding a lot of water. No need to even mention real hair brushes, nor court controversy. Internet Trolls ruin so much as it is. Simply getting such valuable info out there would make a wonderful, informative video. The brush makers have heard the voices of the many uncomfortable artists over the latter years, and that’s why I feel the many companies either specialising in affordable, and fit for purpose synthetic brushes ought to be highlighted a little more. I know of artists who continue to only ever use real animal hair, and have not even tried synthetic, seeing it as something less than… I imagine them teaching those new to art there simply are no other options there. Blatantly untrue of course. Your gentle, amusing style of teaching and reviewing, along with no snobbery anywhere about you. Pro Arte brushes are affordable, made in England and the vast majority of their brushes are synthetic. Winsor and Newton have also got a great synthetic line, but sadly they make you pay a lot for a similar outcome to many other, cheaper companies out there. I will go to sleep now. 👍🏻👩🏻‍🎨🎨🖌️

@YeCatte I agree with your comments re the cruelty with sable brushes. I was at Patchings and spoke to this guy about this black sable brush and got a similar vague response that @Lizchadderton received. I would never use sable brushes, but equally a lot of artists don’t realise these brushes are made of real fur. Personally I think they should be banned (and I too am not a PETA extremist)… but abhor cruelty to animals and the fur trade is dreadful

@@anitadavidson1266 synthetics have come on in leaps and bounds. Natural hair still has the edge, but that just means we need to be better artists to overcome any deficiency.

@@joankennedyartist you are right we all need to take responsibility for what we use. Having said that, some people will not use any animal products (some papers are gelatin sized), some won’t use heavy metals, everyone draws the line in a different place.

@LizChadertonArt Thanks for your reply (for some odd reason I can't reply directly to your reply, so I'm posting here), and I have absolutely no idea how I missed that 🙈. I hadn't realised that Brusho wasn't lightfast, no idea why I didn't know that either 🙈. Only one thing for it; I will definitely have to acquire some of the Jackman's... Thanks again. KZbin has a mind of its own…. Brusho are a bit sneaky. they say something like ‘lightfast in most circumstances’. but I have seen dramatic fading and when I contacted their tech team many years ago, they admitted some of their colours are very fugitive. I personally would not use them for work I plan to display or sell

Anyone know how the Jackman crystals differ from Brusho? Thanks.

@LizChadertonArt 2 ай бұрын
yes! I mentioned in the film, they are pigment based with excellent light fastness. Brusho are dye based and as such don’t have great light fastness. So if you are doing art work to display longer term, then the Jackmans crystals are a great bet ( and no, I’m not an affiliate 😆)

I too went to Patchings (my 2nd visit). There is soooo much to look at/see/do all in one day. Needs to be planned like a military operation! Or better still try & stay over & do a couple of days instead. I bought a couple of those crystalline watercolours (along with many other things!). I haven't had time to experiment with them yet (I've been too busy bookmarking! 😉). You only need a few sprinkles, as they are very strong/pigmented. Btw, I am the mad lady that came to meet you in the marquee, & showed you some of my purchases! 🤣 (well you did say 'come & say hello' in one of your emails 😊)
