Walt Disney World's Haunted Mansion ride has a new happy haunt - the Hatbox Ghost has finally materialized, and we're going to welcome him, ride some rides, and enjoy a fun day at Magic Kingdom! Join me for a lovely low crowd day at Magic Kingdom on the last day of November 2023 - there’s been a big update at Haunted Mansion as the Hat Box Ghost has finally materialized, and we also enjoy a lovely day at Magic Kingdom! We ride Haunted Mansion twice to see how he looks and talk about whether he fits into the story and ride, of course it's all lighthearted and in the spirit of fun! It’s also a low crowd day when Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is going on, so we enjoy some classic dark rides, lovely weather, a surprise ride on TRON Lightcycle Run, and take in the Christmas party holiday ambiance of Main Street USA and Cinderella Castle! I think it works, because Leota only summons the others, hes there from the get go laughing at you because one of you will be 1000th ghost. Even tho hes not and wasnt in MK version(the only one ive ridden) ive always sort of thought he was the ghost host. The sense of peril that lingers from stretching room till your escape

Growing up in the 1980s, we had the Haunted Mansion storybook record album, with the 1969 art booklet, and the hatbox ghost was depicted in the Attic as you noted. The original Disneyland animatronic was removed just after opening due to its bad lighting effects, and it never made it to Disney World until today. The animatronic looks great, but that little detail of placement would have been nice from an overall story perspective.

If you ever come to Paris, you should go to the Paris version of the haunted mansion, Phantom Manor. It is completely different and way spookier and also got refreshed since 2018. For me it's the best haunted mansion in the world 👍

To me they aligned the story closer to the newest movie. He’s in the hallway throughout the movie and he’s not summoned by Leota or a seance because he’s always there, moves about, and is in control of the rest of the spirits including Leota. It makes sense he isn’t subject to a seance given that new story and the 999 still works since you as the rider are the potential 1000 that allows him to take the power he’s after. But either way Hatbox is a king and we love him. A hatbox moment was needed in WDW!

The mansion is really one of the best and iconic 'ride' Disney has created. It's stands the test of time and represents what they excel. We hadn't been to the park in years but when we went in September that was the first thing we hit. Honestly there isn't many rides we do at MK. You mention of the storylines have me thinking I never really paid attention to what the actual HM story was. We head over on the 16th mostly just to check out the decorations then back to Epcot. Hopefully gets cooler. Though I may check out Tron since you have the video..looks cool. Nice look with the sunglasses.

Mom made us wait 6 months after WDW opened in '71. The Haunted Mansion instantly became my Number One E ticket attraction. (no Space or Big Thunder mountains yet!) Ultimately it led to my career in theatre and movie special effects. (in college I used to sneak backstage while the attraction was running- Top to bottom. Fascinating!!! ... FL & CA) Don't try this today, kids, Mickey has a digital memory now.

Jackie, I am looking forward to seeing Hat Box Ghost on our next trip to Disney. As far as Tron goes, it was good and fun. I rode Hagrids and those motorbikes weren't like Tron lifecycles. You didn't have to lean forward as much as on Tron. I think my time riding Tron I am going to ask to sit in the regular seat and try it that way. Now if I compared Tron and Guardians, since they are both Disney coasters, I think I will say that Guardians is my fav of the two. I love both Tron movies also.

I agree with you! I wasn't one of the people comparing TRON to Hagrid's in that way, I've always said they are very different. I also agree that I'd rank Guardians over TRON, but I still really enjoy TRON and find it really fun and different. It's not like anything else at Magic Kingdom and I always smile the entire time! I wish Guardians and TRON would move to standby lines at least being an option though, it stinks that you can't ride either without a virtual queue or Lighting Lane.

@@SuperEnthused I agree with you about the virtual ques. But after a while on Rise Of The Resistance they did do away with the virtual que. My daughter and I rode Rise through the standby line and we were through the line, on the ride and off in about 40 minutes. At least on that day. Tron is definitely a unique coaster and I like it as well. I am glad they give the guests the option of riding in a regular seat if they choose to. I'll try that next time. I have only ridden Hagrids once. So I need to ride it again. LOL.

I think Hatbox Ghost is part of the original 999 Happy Haunts because of his story at Disneyland - how he was originally in the ride when it opened but "mysteriously disappeared" at a later date. Have you seen that history before? (The nighttime maintenance Cast Members had a card to document him.) I agree at Disneyland you go by him too fast! That corner is speedy.

Disney has lost their storytelling touch. At this point, I'll just enjoy the animatronic wherever they put it. But actually, now that I see it again, it takes away from the endless hallway. Your focus goes to the Hatbox Ghost, and you glaze right over the floating candelabra.

And it's probably not that big of a deal compared to what they could have done with more changes to script, which would mean totally redoing the narration. That idea has been scrapped for now. There were plans for Melbourne to get a Disney park but the higher ups thought that as we're too isolated and too far away and less densely populated it's not viable. Also Melbourne's weather is quite bipolar being known to have all four seasons in a day! 😂 There's plenty of updated articles on it online 😢 At least now the old Sydney Showgrounds/Fox Studios Australia have been renamed as Disney Studios Australia since they bought them out. At least we're now getting Disney cruises in Australia. My Dad and stepmother recently went on the first cruise from Sydney for four nights on the Disney Wonder back in October. I do believe we're getting a Bluey cartoon park in Brisbane later next year though which considering that SO MANY American kids are obsessed with might be a good attraction for families on holidays.

It's not meant to look like him, he's not even a part of the rides story, only the newest movie. Heck, even the Eddie Murphy Hanted Mansion movie had nothing to do with that rides other international versions or storylines!
