FYI, these have an issue with the bearing caps coming loose, some even arrived brand new in sealed boxes with caps missing. Athearn says they have NO replacements and offered no plan to. Athearn is trying to shift responsibility to the retailer & telling customers to simply return or exchange them rather than honor the Athearn warranty. So retailers will get stuck with return costs or incomplete models.

so i was collecting märklin modells for the past years and am currently starting to buold a new layout and selling my märklin stuff. Even though märklin is way more expensive than athearn or mth they are not nearly as detailed. just ordered 2 of those sd60m. im really convinced now that märklin is just moneygrabbing when i see that other brands to better stuff for less money

Unfortunately my UP version is a miss. It was missing two bearing caps. The ditch lights also are pretty dim. But the worst of all is it can't run thru a right hand curve without derailing. I think the brake chain is hanging up.

I'm really surprised about your dim ditch lights, because the LED's are directly in the housings. No light piping in these.

Awesome review and an excellent locomotive! Incidentally, BNSF still has a few of these tri clops SD60Ms milling around in their fleet, a couple of examples are in Memphis, Tennessee being used as remote control hump yard switchers and wearing the road's current H3 scheme, hopefully Athearn does these locomotives in a future run! I also agree that Athearn should really add extra bearing caps like Scaletrains does with their locomotives.

At my cost of course. didn't even ask for my information to see what they would do about it because something about moving to Indiana . I picked up two units BNSF & BN BNSF speaker sounds horrible the BN is great didn't even want to talked to the guy anymore!! (ATHEARNS 👎👎👎) I canceled three other orders. Disappointing
