Man, it's a joy to watch you and Bill single-handedly install the piston. I'm a little surprised that you didn't realize the piston was different. You usually check everything several times before you install/extract parts. Bill certainly is worth his weight in gold. He just chugs along quietly and without a lot of flare but he sure quite effective. Man, you got those heads put in place without any major issues. As one viewer mentioned in Part 1 of this task, that this entire process would have been extremely costly. Nice to get Bill back to help with adjustments. Dang, the truck sounded pretty good when you made the trial run. Hey, awesome job brother. Enjoyed a full-watch. I hope the piston goes for a nice price to donate proceeds to the Derby. Have a fine week and keep on moving dirt. 👍🏽🤠 5/3/23

pro tip - take an old head bolt, cut the head off and thread it into one of the bolt holes loosely as a stud to help you locate the head when dropping it on - even with locating dowels, it helps tons to not damage the head gasket with the super heavy heads. using two is even better. (and if you cut a slot in the top for a large screwdriver…)

It's been a long time since I worked on a Mack engine internals. We had a 74 R model that we had to keep rebuilding the turbocharger because the driver wouldn't idle it before shutting down. It had 800,000 miles on it when it became a yard tractor. The only Macks we had engine trouble with were the newest ones with Cummins engines.

Dang fine job! I did see another comment saying that you should have done a complete in-frame. Not warranted in my opine either: it's a local haul truck and not an OTR truck. 10K (maybe) miles a year versus 200K miles a year. I wholeheartedly agree with fixing what was broke and leaving non-broke parts alone.
