I was just going through KZbin channels & I came across your video. I live not far from you in Cleveleys. I used to do lots of sea fishing from the 60s until 2017 & the difference in fish catches over the years has changed drastically. I remember the cod catches we used to get both from the shore & boat. When I got married in the mid-70s, we moved to North Wales with our jobs. We lived there for a number of years & I couldn't believe the changes in catches. I am no longer fishing due to disabilities, so I tend to watch videos because it makes me feel like I'm fishing again. I bought a bait pump, but I never got the hang of it, so I always went back to the shovel. The black lug worm was much bigger back then, but I suppose the beds got hammered . Also, we used to dig King rag worm from Fleetwood opposite the kite shop, but even those beds have disappeared. Anyhow, seeing you're a local guy I've subscribed to, and I'll go on a virtual fishing trip with you.

Great video when i was younger and did lots of sea fishing on rocks and beaches, i used to just dig for my Lugworm and it took forever to get at least a dozen, then if Marine Lake in West Kirby had been drained we used to jump in there in your wellies and get loads of Ragworm, but not the small ones the big King Ragworm with the bigger nippers. Now with this pumping lark i would have made a fortune if i thought of it years ago. TC. Barry (Wirral)

Great to watch, description of that worm was a swimmer, in fact it was a yellow tail which is a juvenile BLACK LUG your know if you stick them live in shallow seawater they both curl up, obviously a blow lug just lie straight in seawater, I have the same problem on my beach that they are so mixed, literally not worth pumping, we rarely have the black lug like at BLACKPOOL, keep the good work up

Love this. Incredible how the advent of pumps has made this so much easier. I grew up collecting bait on the River Dee estuary flats and also long Moreton flats. We had to dig and dig hard and fast. Now it's become an art form. But I'm really curious about your comments about fresh lug not being as good for Flatties. This is a concept I'm exploring here in Australia, challenging conventional thinking. Nice video and look forward to seeing more.

Black lugworm that is a week old and much older is far better for dab fishing than fresh and that is an absolute fact.
@wellhookedWA2 ай бұрын
@@markpearcey-ph5nh But why is that? Do you think it is scent? We use berley down here (groundbait) as fish attractors and there are some weird and wonderful ingredients which go against logic, often in frozen berley logs or berley bombs. But they are all very, very smelly.
