@@DrawciaGleam02 Well, yeah, kinda. With Beyblade, it's really really simple. Two objects enter, they do their thing, one object wins in an easily observable way. Beyblade exists entirely on the physical layer, you can't slap down a special card that says your Beyblade has +200 leaf damage and +50 stamina because no, it doesn't, its attack power and stamina exist in physical reality and it's gonna do what it's gonna do. With Bakugan, most of the actual battling is abstracted out to the TCG layer. This is a really good video Jett I am not a Bakugan person but I saw your video pop up in my feed, it is very hard to compete with Beyblade since the game has so much that goes into it, I saw a lot of the "Bakugan Beyblades" and was listening to your commentary they do need a proper direction if they want to make that line interesting in order to be successful. Some things that get pretty difficult too is the idea of game accesiblity, Beyblade to me is generally very accesibe for simple rules and to pick up and play, there is depth to the game that people can look into if they want to but that is one of Beyblades biggest strengths to me. Hope Bakugan does whatever it can and can do well! All the best! ~ Cheers

Yeah I don’t think Bakugan is ever gonna be as accessible as Beyblade, at least in terms of gameplay. Bakugan are just as easy to buy and mess with (if not easier), but the intrinsic gameplay is always gonna be more rules-heavy to work. But that’s why it REALLY needs to provide depth if it wants to compete in the market.

I think this video is a perfect example of something I've personally learnt from my own market research: Don't. Be. A. Copycat. No matter how much better or as good you think your version of a preexisting product is, it's never going to be enough to win over people who have already invested in the original product. As much as big businesses don't want to take the risk, historically, it's most often been best for a company to make something different that stands out, even if it's a similar product. For example: Magic the Gathering, Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! are all TCGs, but they have drastically different aesthetics and gameplay. Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! didn't need to copy Magic 1:1 because they were good in their own right.

It didn't spin as well or move as fast as some other ones of the time, but the increased friction and the usual Dragoon gimmick of spinning in the opposite direction paired with an aggressive ring gave it very violent impacts against other attackers and it was harder to shove around by stamina or defensive blades.

Would love to see Bakugan embrace the split gimmick with each part having gimmicks of their own. The bind system has had that idea and its just been sitting there for over a decade, a full line like that plus the new cards with their zones could make for something really dynamic. If they went this route maybe they could modify the special attack ring to just allow that part to spin with something on the bottom to allow it to slide or something, or play into some kind of curve shot gimmick. They really do have every component there but just need to put it together correctly.
@iannations2543 Жыл бұрын
as much as this splitting gimmick could save Bakugan, let me remind you of its troubled history with it. Bakumutants in Mechtanium Surge: The accident. We've seen bakugan split apart before with Sky and gaia dragonoid along with Dartaak and eventually the Bakumine Tremblar, but it was the first instance of customizable Bakugan, even if it was a bit awkward to work with before it got cancelled. Bind System in Bakutech: The Coincidence. Having the Bakugan split in hemispheres made room for the designs of each to really explode. (see what i did there?) sucks that the system was only in Japan, but it came close to getting the split and customization right before it too got cancelled. Bakugan G3's Splitting feature: the Pattern(?) With the game hyper-fixated on luck, the splitting gimmick may be seen as a pattern that tells everyone Bakugan will face cancellation in the end. in fact, I'm willing to say that this system could end up a franchise _killer_ more than a savior.
@chaomaster100 Жыл бұрын
@@iannations2543 I get what you mean but I think its just coincidence. BakuTech Gachi was the fourth consecutive year of Bakugan in Japan, by that point I think it had just run its course. Bakugan always struggled more in Japan, and I'd even argue that not shifting to something like the bind system sooner actually hurt it more. The convert system existed for nearly 3 years before the bind system's introduction so I'd say a lot of people just lost interest before the bind system really came about. As far as the west goes, I think its hard to say that BakuMutants (and the couple other oddballs) had any bearing on Bakugan's cancellation. Mechtanium Surge had a ton of other problems that were much more integral to the series. BakuMutants were a small part of that at best, and a non-factor at worst. As much as I don't imagine they will, I think if they pivot quick enough with this gen it could be something that actually has a positive impact on Bakugan.
@iannations2543 Жыл бұрын
@@chaomaster100 I did label bakumutants as the Accident after all. Like you said, it probably wasn't the thing that got it cancelled in the west. As for the bind system, i referred to it as a coincidence as the shift to it from Convert System was too little too late. And like you said, Bakutech was in Japan so this better customization was basically region locked.
@comicosmic12 Жыл бұрын
Really the switch and custom gimmick should have been the main focus of G3, making any bakugan having any special gimmick as you said in the video really makes cool any bakugan and gives diversity to just 1 bakugan, exploring the infinity posibilities to make the bakugan fits to your strategy or just to look rad. And i think Meelee is the perfect gameplay for it because it's a chimera of the previous gameplays that makes everybody happy and adds the posibility to play with previous gameplays (HSP, Battle Brawlers, simple and complex Battle Planet) because there are all the resources to make it possible. That's how different generations fans and new ones can share and be happy also fits with the custom philosophy. The bayblade gimmick can exist just as other gameplay instead of being the main one.

I honestly feel sad seeing this, in Mexico I couldn't even see packs of cards, I feel like the second generation was a great idea that was left incomplete due to a variety of factors And that in the end they decided to "avoid complications" and make a game as simple as possible, but that somehow has no direction It's possible that it's because I'm older and I love card games and strategy, but damn, thinking of the potential that 2g tcg had and compare it to that poor bakugan shaking and trying to touch a card to open himself I just hope Bakugan is still here with us

I had a passing interested in gen 2/reboot (not sure what the official term is) due to the tcg aspect but the lack of lgs support + how hard it was to get cards killed my interest in it. I saw the the core switching/combining gimmick of gen 3 and thought it look pretty neat. One of the best parts of beyblade X is the customization aspect (although the variety for bits/ratchets is lacking right now). Seeing people take defense/stamina beys like viper/rhino and turn them into attack types or use dransword with ball to make a "stationary attack" type beyblade is really cool. If spinmaster ditches the spinning top angle and just has the spinning top be one of the few ways to customize your bakugan, I can see gen 3 appealing to the beyblade crowd more than what they're doing right now.

I like the splitting aspect but I think the gate card is the best improvement to the game. I like that is a happy medium between the old gate cards and the weird cells from the first reboot. I feel like it has a lot of gameplay potential. Like, what if the heart is you life and when you land on a heart you gain 100 extra life or something? So you can survive attacks better. And what if the green energy is something like card energy, that you get to use in order to play as many action cards as your energy allows. Or maybe your special ability has a meter requirement. Is not perfect, but I definitely thing there is potential in adding a bit more than " number fight!"

Back in the day during the original bakugan series around gundalian invaders I think, the highest moment for me as a kid playing the game was when I discovered I could intentionally use a low G power bakugan paired with a gate card that gave bakugan below a certain power level a huge boost, which I could pair with another ability card that gave another massive boost. Cuz I could intentionally use that against other kids, weaponizing the high G power creep, to deny their naturally high power bakugan the gate bonus, and turn my old weak bakugan into an unstoppable bomb. The old game was perfect imo. Anyone could pick up an play by borrowing a few bakugan and cards from a friend. All it needed was a bit more room for synergy. Cards with extra effects that could be strategized around more in depth without needing a whole tcg deck, or at most a much smaller deck of 10-20 cards at most to limit the barrier for entry. Something like the "big game" ruleset.

If it weren’t for the stupid little nubs on the bottom of the spinning pieces, you could actually be using the flywheels to aid in skill shots. The best part about old bakuturbine was that the flywheels gave them a predictable arc when given a typical side shot. It also kept the magnets parallel and made banking on slopes easier. When you got good with them they were really cool ways to show off to friends, being able to accurately send your Bakugan all the way around the field to get to a gate on the other side unobstructed The tip in gen 3 however, throws all of that out the window! Now they act more like literal spinning tops, and act totally random no matter what. It went from one of the gimmicks with the most skillful potential- using the centrifugal force to better control your Bakugan, into an instant REMOVAL of any skill, by taking away any and all control. Leaving you with a slot machine of lameness :/ (Also even if you are lucky and happen to spin on over to a gate card, OH WAIT the nub stops them from actually going onto the gates unless they’re sunken into the lame-o stadium >:/)

A suggestion: The gate cards have a certain theme to them more than just the colored symbols. They also represent the clan. If it's a Dino Bakugan, it'll be desert and bone. If it's a dragon, Bakugan, it'll be lava and fire. My suggestion would be maybe a little boost to the Bakugan that matches the clan it's Gate Card represents, giving actual meaning to the clan symbols

If this reboot were to implement skill based customization and a rework of the game, I would definitely be glad to return to collecting and playing! I would love them to bring back the bind system for people like me to finally try out, but I feel like spinamster just sees Bakugan as toys and not battles for young kids and teens (or even adults) to get imersed in and experience a REAL battle. All negativity aside I love ur content and jett, been watching since gen 2 began and love ur content, plus I played melee with my math teacher and got out of work (he love the game and now we play in the middle of classes😂) it’s been so fun to watch ur channel grow and evolve, as I have. Thank u so much jett love ur content

There is one anime I vividly remember. It's about insects car that fight each other. I remember the red one I think its a horn Beetle and blue one is stag Beetle, that's far as I can remember. I remember my dad buying me this red horn Beetle when I was a kid.

The D&D parallel is a bit off: the entire point of the dice roll is that the number IS random. You don't really train to roll dice better... You could say that instead, you work on improving your modifiers so that you don't NEED to worry about the number rolled as much

I really like your videos. You tell it from your perspective like it is, but provide a lot of nuances involved that give your perspective a lot of clarity. After all the doom and gloom I hear constantly on reddit about Bakugan Gen 3, it's good to see a healthy criticism of it without resorting to doomposting,

Oh thank goodness! Cause I've never been very entrenched in Beyblade, but I tried my best. I think technically calling the symbols in the center of Beyblade X beys 'bit beasts' is somewhat of a misnomer I made, but I'm not sure what else to call them.
@GreatLad Жыл бұрын
@@JettKuso they don’t really have a name, so you can call them whatever you want really, spirits, avatars, bit beasts, etc. the whole center chip section is called a gear chip, but the avatars themselves don’t really have a name yet.

Honestly this might be my favorite video of yours, the amount of depth you go into and the subjects you touch on is just great. I couldn’t agree more on doing crazy things with the split gimmick. It’s painful how little they are capitalizing on it. Baku melee got me back into gen 2 after the canceling (can I call it that?) of Baku-pro. Your point on how little of a game it is, and your comment about how you’re making a rule set inspired me to make one of my own and it’s really been coming together in a rather great way. Thanks for the great video!

My version of beigoma was a pen's removable plastic tip, a bottlecap with a hole punched in the middle and a washer fitted into the that tip, a string to wrap around the upper half of the tip and a bamboo skewer to stick into the tip while you're pulling the string to spin the bootleg beyblade. It was both a fun and dangerous childhood memory as we would often flatten bottlecaps and customize their edges into sharp jigsaw blades.

My first beyblade was a burst era stamina type named Phantasus (can’t remember how to spell), and it was one of my favorite toys. It dominated my brothers and neighbors in the ring, and I even made special move names for it, like Hell’s Palace, Phantom Strike, Phantom Split, and Ghoulish Burst

Honestly you actually helped me articulate why we're currently skipping this generation of beyblade (x). The "big moment" now either happens too quickly, or conversely, too often. The main current green ring arena just bottlenecks the length of battles to a point. Just a little larger or slightly different point of entry and the few locals (and their kids) I know would be more invested...

Fantastic breakdown of the Bakugan-imitating-Beyblade saga that is ongoing. As you said, the parts of the game seems to be built to be a good game, but SM just chose to ignore everything and let everything be decided by random chance. I also really like the endless possibilities that you mentioned at the end of the video. There are just so many ways they could have made this better by having multiple gimmicks in either the top or bottom halves, and it's totally backwards compatible! Hope someone at SM watches this and makes it come true!

I can't wait to see the video about that new gen 3 format you and you're buds are cooking up, cause honestly the only thing that gen 3 bakugan has going for it really is collectability, and even then not really because nothing new has been released in the toy line since the gen 3 reboot started (at least not that i have seen anything). I feel they've taken a hiatus and who knows when or if they will come back out.
@isaacsussman5632 Жыл бұрын
I do hope they elaborate on this style for a while. But i just cant see this lasting in any way. The majority of the toys are simplistic (if they cut all the cores to just make the genuinely really impressive special attack bakugan the normal ones would be sick.) and the game takes way too much space for too little depth. It is NOT selling in my area. Right now my hope is they can either tweak this heavily or get out before we need to mourn bakugan a second time. I want to love this and i have a lot of favorites from this line but it cant be the real next step.
@Zephyr-ks9cf10 ай бұрын
They took arguably the coolest, most fun aspect of bakutech(the bind system), and didn't focus on it for the first run. That boggles my mind. The bind is one of my favorite bakugan gimmicks, and I don't even own one!

I will forever be frustrated that Spinmaster had the only (as far as I know) dexterity-based TCG on the market and they fumbled it so badly. I really think gen 2 could have made big waves in the TCG space if it was better supported and the products were readily available. I would love to see someone make their own take on the TCG, although I imagine Spinmaster has patents and/or copyrights that would prevent that from ever happening.
@sophiegoose11 ай бұрын
Great video, man. As someone who's been playing and collecting Bakugan since the start I have some Feelings(tm) about the reboot, mostly around, as you noted, the lack of strategy and weird oversimplicity of it. I was lucky enough during Gen 2 to find a local group playing Bakugan, and we were one of the few that managed to get the Age of Aurelus preview event, and God does your point about Spinmaster getting spooked by how successful their TCG was for Gen 2 ring so, so true. People at my LGS LOVED watching us play the Bakugan TCG: we would have MTG, Pokémon, Warhammer, and other folks all the time stopping by and watching games and wanting to learn it. It was great to sit down with them and explain the rules and see them fiddle with the Bakugan and the physicality of rolling...but then we had to explain that they needed to drop at least 30$ on a starter deck and we lost a lot of folks there, lol. Spinmaster has so much potential with Bakugan: just like Beyblade the core concept is so appealing and fun and simple and there's so much space to keep that simplicity but build upon it and I would absolutely LOSE MY MIND if they worked customization into deck building for Bakugan. Like, Bakugan players already love so, SO much working out the minutia of their decks and how specific Bakugan roll and feel in-hand, adding more to that would be AMAZING. It would just take it to the next level. And Hell, all they really need right now if they really wanna cheap out until their current run of toy designs is done is release a new set of rules for the cards that takes better strategic advantage of a Bakugan's stats, what halves they have attached, etc. (Looking forward to your new format for G3 BTW, Melee was such a blast) As a long-term fan who wants to see this series continue and flourish, I just want Spinmaster to really listen and not be afraid to embrace a simple but satisfying game that lets the toys do what they do best, be fun little marbles that open up into monsters, and let the cards give us the platform for strategy and skill. They have so much to draw on now between multiple generations, a TCG, and what fans have built themselves. I just hope they can listen and use it well, because while the toys are great, a good game behind them makes them spectacular. Anyway, cheers and all the best Jett, wonderful vid as usual. 🙌
