What the shit did I just watch? I'm not a "sneaker head" or collector....... I'm a mid-40's guy who wanted a new pair of "walk around" shoes, and saw someone wearing a retro looking pair of trainers made by New Balance. So I KZbin'd "retro New Balance" and found this video - which ended up being the most professional video I could imagine, on the most random subject that I never knew existed: retro looking "dad shoes". Couple videos later, and I have a pair of 574's en route from Amazon. Great video, except now you may have given me a new hobby........... damn it!

I can’t remember which model but it was likely a 995...that shoe was stable enough to play tennis in! I was caught late in the year on a decent weather day in NYC at a friends who asked to hit some tennis balls, I was wearing my Timberland 1006s and ran to my car thinking I had some hoops kicks, did not of course but I did have my 995s. Now I’m in my late 40s and wouldn’t recommend this to anyone but back then I slid them on and started to hit, within minutes I realized these full blown runners were stabilizing my foot/ankle well enough to play for real. So I got my ass kicked but my shoes held up...New Balance encap is the real deal...but I think more needed to be explained about the actual foot bed and not simply the hard heel cup. Great vid!

Mello yellow Wrooong. I’m from NY and I NEVER saw a AF1’s being worn religiously until like 90-91. Harlem dudes BEEN copying DC Metro styles for YEARS because DC didn’t have a rap scene so you weren’t seeing the DC style on TV. You had to be out here to see it. I was young but I remember the NYC dudes wearing Fila and Lotto’s and we called AF1’s “DC’s” when I was a kid not UPTOWNS. I distinctly remember at 10-11 like “why are they calling “DC’s” “Uptowns” now?” Same with Foamposites. When 1/2 of your family is from N.VA/PG County and the other 1/2 is from College Point/Hempstead the bias goes out the window and the facts stand on their own fam 💯

It's disappointing how out-of-touch the NB executives were for so many years. The 990 came in many beautiful, vibrant colors and it was a simple, stylish, comfortable shoe. I approached NB corporate around 2008 in an attempt to convince them to re-release the 990 in seasonal colors. Long story, short... I met with the CEO at the time and the in-house counsel at NB headquarters in Allston. I explained the various things that NB was not doing, could be doing, and should be doing. He/they didn't get it at all. He eventually got fired and NB is doing better things these days. But, they prefer to focus on the 578 in numerous colors. I don't find that model to be comfortable. It's disappointing.

@@dnyce3506 yes. The 327 delivers beautifully for the price. The performance is great. I wear mine for 12 hour shifts in my feet all day.

Growing up in Baltimore City during 70s 80s and being into shoe culture since the beginning the first shoe that sparked shoe craze was Adidas what was called shell heads aka Superstar back then people did including myself went crazy over Airforce ones and the Vandals, The Georgetown Airforce ones were fire back in the 80s I use to take a beating verbally & physically to get a pair I remember when the Patent leather Adidas forms hit the shelves kids in the hip hop breakdancing went crazy they were over $100 !

At $100 back in 1982 when the 990 came out is equivalent to $307 today!!! Let that sink in.

@@NachoAverageFinds It's just so crazy how all these sneaker companies try so hard to maintain relavency and popularity when really just staying true and honest is what makes you successful. Like Adidas started to overtake Nike when they were doing their best to make comfortable running shoes and have fun colabs and they fell when they tried to pander and cash out on the hype. New Balance has just been consistently making and improving upon their product without changing their identity for a trend or quick cash grab. It's just so cool that a company can still be popular without pandering and being fake.

Hi. Love the review. Great content on your channel. Thanks. I am confused between 990v5 and 990 OGs bringbacks. Which one is more comfortable?
