SE Asean countries, especially Bangkok in Thailand, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and Singapore (and to some extent Jakarta in Indonesia) all ‘fight’ for being the premium retail shopping destination, attracting (wealthy) tourists from the Middle East and Asia itself. It’s not so much about the largest mall in Bangkok, but Bangkok in comparison to the other regional destinations mentioned. Kuala Lumpur recently completed Merdeka 118, the world’s second tallest building with the 118 Mall inside, including more than a million square feet of retail shopping outlets. Jakarta is building more malls as well. SE Asia as a whole is the world’s leading shopping destination. Good video!

critical shortage of retail space is common is SEA and thailand. As indian, we have new malls opening and lot of retail shop. Thailand is developing third world nation behind India (less GDP, population, capital, etc). i wish them best of luck and to copy indian economic process and values.

Traffic will be nuts when this opens, the Udom Suk junction is bad enough at the moment, even worse when it floods. It will be interesting to see how they sort the transport out, Paragon, Icon, T21 all have transit options that stop directly at the mall. it's a fair old walk from Udom Suk to this mall.

Nice update. Glad I was able to film the flying chicken restaurant that use to sit on the site there years ago. Just guessing but I'd say they are gearing a completion date to coinside with the opening of the BMA Bang Na-Suvarnabhumi light rail line in 2029, at the current rate of construction. 😉

I think this will make the area from On Nut to Udom Suk Rd more desirable. The main issue for a mall of this size is it will really need a BTS station.

The First Problem I’d say with this project is the Budget! IconSiam costed 54 Billion while this project “the largest” should’ve budgetted 70-90 billion instead it’s only 30 billion! Second, Land Size is limited and has no room for expansion at least it should be Bitec Size it would not retain the Title if it can’t expand! Third there’s no wow factor about this mall other than being the largest with a stadium. I already graded it a C lol! Plus Wierdly The Mall group could never buy out the corners…. Just like the ‘Em District none of the Malls has the corner land lol 😊

The latest update from The Mall Group is that it will open in 2026-2027, with the Bangkok Arena part opening first. According to the news, the project size might have increased to 1M+ sq.m, and the arena's capacity might have increased from 12,000 to 20,000 people. The construction did take a brief pause because of COVID and the rush to complete the new Emsphere.

Well, I was living in Ideo O2 condominium and the closest "mall" (it's more like an office area with some restaurants) was True Digital Park. And True Digital Park was too far away. This will be more convinient for that residents. A part of this Regent company is building a big condominium (with 5.000 units near Ideo O2) and will be finished on January. I bought one of these. So I really think that the population in the area will increase fast. A part of this, i'ts in development a new skytrain line (light) that will connect the airport with the light green line in Bang Na Station (passing near the mall). I am a bit skeptic about the mall, but if all the other development projects near it, finnish without problems in some years maybe this mall has a lot of sense.

Honestly yes lol! I want to walk from Ekkamai to Ari Ekkamai to Saphan Taksin by Skywalk and Connecting Buildings lmto! If there needs to be more Malls So Be It however they have to be Unique and give a creative different vibes!

Malls are pretty much just playing into the fact people just want to get away from the heat. A good hangout spot to spend money on and they know that so it works. Put some good restaurants and an inexpensive food court apart from each other like terminal 21 and it is a good mall to spend time and money on.

The new Cloud 11 mall only 1km away is near completion by the end of this year. Hard to see how 2 massive malls near each other and outside the city centre will be successful.

Cloud 11 is much smaller scale than BKK Mall and it’s mainly attributed to innovative offices and working space

A decade since project announcement. The Mall Group is not a part of SET as Central Pattana, so construction is too slow comparing project size. I think Khun Aew (owner of The Mall Group) maybe rethink to compete in the retail war.

The Sprawling Central complex on Phuket is touted as the largest in SEA.

There are so many different criteria that might work. If you look at retail space, the total size of the building or how many shops the Mall has, they will all have different winners. The surface space of the Central Floresta and Festival Malls together is surely bigger then Icon Siam for example, because it has less floors.

Unless it offers discount stores, it will be just another high-end fashion mall that will attract people who want AC from the heat and affordable food at the typical food court. Btw, I'm sure Icon Siam will be upset that it no longer be the biggest mall in Thailand. The competition to be the biggest mall in Thailand never stops!

Who wants to go out there when they can be in Phrom Pong and other areas near a real city, not just a bunch of new concrete world … there is not even a park between there and Phrom Pong that I know of. Just miles of rot dit traffic. Where is the soul of Bangkok going?
