Introducing the Baojun Yep, a fully electric urban SUV that emerges from the collaborative efforts of the SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture. In a surprising turn of events, the Yep is slated to commence at 83,800 RMB (approximately 11,885 USD), a notably lower starting price than initially speculated by many media outlets, which had anticipated a figure closer to 100,000 RMB (about 14,180 USD).
Characterized by its compact and distinctive design, the Yep takes the form of a two-door electric city car with the aesthetic appeal of a petite off-road SUV. Its physical dimensions measure 3381 mm in length, 1685 mm in width, and 1721 mm in height, all while maintaining a wheelbase of 2110 mm. Comparatively, this places it more than 600 mm shorter than the Suzuki Jimny, contributing to its agility in urban settings. Recent official images have unveiled the interior of the Baojun Yep, which boasts a dual-screen configuration, featuring a pair of 10.25-inch monitors. Accommodating up to four passengers, the Yep's interior offers a comfortable and modern ambiance.
Under the hood, the Baojun Yep SUV houses a single electric motor located on the rear axle, generating 68 horsepower and 140 Nm of torque. Its top speed is limited to 100 kph, aligning with its intended urban application. This propulsion is powered by a 28.1 kWh lithium-ion phosphate battery, bestowing the Yep with an impressive range of up to 303 kilometers according to the Chinese National Conditions Local Test Cycle (CLTC).
Charging capabilities also play a crucial role in Yep's usability. With the convenience of DC fast charging, the battery can be replenished from 30 to 80 percent in just 35 minutes-an attribute that distinguishes it from the Comet EV. On the other hand, by utilizing AC charging, the battery can be revitalized from 20 to 80 percent in approximately 8.5 hours. In comparison, the Comet EV requires merely 5 hours to achieve a similar charge level with its 17.1 kWh battery. These charging options cater to different user preferences and charging infrastructure availability, enhancing the overall practicality of the Baojun Yep in various scenarios.

I think it's rear wheel drive only. Which, yknow, like 99% of every other 4x4 or AWD "off roader" they'll be driven on the streets

At $12,000 the payments and the electric used are less than I'm paying for gas right now. I'll buy one just to drive to work and back. I will keep my v 8 truck for long trips and hauling the boat around. Too bad it has a top speed of only 62 mph. If it went as fast as 80mph I would buy one.
