New Barbie Doll Inspired by Primatologist Jane Goodall

It’s the clash of two icons. Renowned primatologist Jane Goodall now has a Barbie doll made in her likeness. It’s part of Mattel’s Inspiring Women Series. Goodall is a trailblazer, having studied chimpanzees since 1960. Surprisingly, she says it’s been a dream come true. Goodall says she’s pleased with the finished product. The doll is outfitted with her signature khaki look, a pair of binoculars and a notebook. Inside Edition Digital’s Mara Montalbano has more.

For literally as long as I can remember, I've held a very special interest and passion in birds. I have so many early memories feeding ducks in parks, watching exotic species fly within aviaries in zoos, and even begging my parrots for a pet parrot the moment I discovered people actually could keep birds as companions like one keeps a dog. Now, fifteen years later, as an undergraduate student I'm majoring in Wildlife, Fish, and Conservation Biology with a minor in Avian Science, well on my way to reaching my dream of becoming an ornithologist and studying wild bird cognition for a living. Jane Goodall is one of the many people I was incredibly inspired by to continue chasing my passion and work towards potentially dedicating my life to the natural sciences and becoming a wildlife biologist. I wasn't really the biggest fan of dolls as a child (as I was much more interested in my Beanie Baby bird collection), but I'm quite tempted to purchase this particular Barbie for the pure nostalgia and reminder of where I've come from and how far my heroes have helped me come to achieve my dreams. I'm very hopeful that many young girls in shoes similar to my own will see this doll and feel the same inspiration I felt as I learned about Jane Goodall's monumental work.
