I think it's best if Battlestar Galactica remain where it is, because of the state of the current entertainment industry. And I'm more concerned that a certain group might try to destroy this sci-fi franchise. Sure it's nice to get some more added to BSG, but they will need to be careful about who they hire.

I know what you're talking about. I was there when the original reboot happened. I remember how people freaked out about a woman taking Starbuck's place...including Dirk Benedict. Now most of those people think that the BSG reboot was awesome and think that Starbuck was a great character. Now those same people are freaking out about other characters in other media, and twenty years from now, they'll say whoever is in our media now is awesome, but they'll be freaking out about whoever is in the media then. ⁠@@jasoncrowell8863: I’m with you on this, and having been both a Trekkie and a Star Wars fan from the very beginning for each before they were franchises, I am completely lost as to what this person’s objections are. If Battlestar Galactica had been left “as is”, we would all still be stuck with the 1970’s show, which even at the time was considered to be a good idea that was poorly executed. The reboot was sorely needed and I look forward to a fresh take on it. It’s too good of a premise to simply allow it to molder.

@@merafirewing6591 Marvel Comics is making their best X-men stuff since Claremont, Marvel Movies is doing "badly" because they've been so successful that they made TOO MANY of them, Star Wars made some bad movies...that was because 1) they tried to copy Ep IV-VI too much, and 2) they switched writers and directors, but are otherwise fine, Warhammer has doubled their sales in the past few years...

I watched the original BSG when I was a kid. It was a great time for sci fi in the late 70's. So when I heard of the BSG reboot and all the changes they were making I thought they were going to ruin an IP that I held in high regard. We have a lot of examples of how "re-boot's" and "re-imaginings" for the "Modern Audience" are obliterating IP's now so many will understand how I felt. The only difference is that they never used that language... Nothing was ever said about making it for that mythical beast known to us all as the "Modern Audience". After all the hemming an hawing by the fans started to subside and Richard Hatch signed on to the project, I decided to give the new BSG a chance. I watched the mini-series and I was stunned at how well it was done and I was totally hooked. I love the original BSG because it's a part of my childhood, but the new BSG appealed to me as an adult. BSG 2003 has become one of my goto shows and I re-watch the entire series every other year or so because I think it's a great example of good television. It's NOT perfect, but compared to the shit we get today it's a freaking masterpiece. Now we have another re-boot, or re-imagining on the way... Why? No idea! I will give it a chance and hope they surprise me like last time. If it's something different, a completely different story or idea in Ron Moore's universe, that could be good. But if it's the same story re-told for a "Modern Audience" then we all know it's going to be pure shit. Those words are the kiss of death for any IP.

Good post. And . . . Your feelings are kind of ironic. Sackhoff was cast as Starbuck and Grace Park was cast as Boomer to promote "The Message" in its infancy. It was one of the first television shows pushing the inclusion agenda. Fortunately, in 2003, just having female characters was enough. All characters, female and male, were well developed and well acted. No female characters invincible - they all had struggles and were developed. The male characters were not castrated to further the agenda. So it was great. My only complaint regarding the inclusion quota was bringing Starbuck back from the dead - making her a god - but by that point the spiritual aspects of the show went well beyond her character so okie dokie.

Well I'm skeptical. Starbuck died, and her......the rest of the crew had their story end when they made it to NuEarth (number 2 in the series as the actual 13th colony was also found and was devastated by nuclear war). Having a show where Starbuck is around would means she would reprise a role where she was in her early 20s. I like so many fans were not thrilled when BSG 2004 miniseries was announced and the SfiFi channel did not have a good track record.....until NuBSG debuted and we all loved it. If the production team can bring new magic to this franchise.....I'm all in. RIP Richard Hatch.

My first thought it to be careful what you wish for; as we've seen what's happened to other beloved characters/franchises upon re-boots or sequels. IMO, Katee Sackoff created one of Sci-fi's most iconic, dynamic & memorable characters ever in BSC's "Starbuck" (i.e.- Lt. Kara Thrace) !! I'd rather leave that legacy alone that taint it's memory with something new and unworthy. However, if it could be done right, most fans would welcome revisiting that beloved character in a continuing story!

You choose what you accept. I don't accept any Star Trek after the end of Enterprise, any Star Wars after the prequel saga and I'm sure there's a 99%+ chance I won't accept any BSG reboot made in this nightmare of a society. And the 2003 BSG was already quite "female empowered" which was fine, so that really says something about how bad things are now.

And the industry just doesn't have the chops anymore. That said there is not need for reboot, creatively. There is need for completely new, great stories.

I'm currently rewatching Bsg and caprica, so I'm a bit hyped right now. I really hope the new show somehow adresses some of of the first reboots mysteries like Karas true nature and the cylons "god" (who doesn't like that name).

One reason why I didn't watch the reboot is because they took the Sexes of the original characters and flipped them around in the opposite direction. I am not a fan of this altough most people would accuse me of being a sexist, I'm just an originalist when in comes to original characters should have remained the same gender and that is all I will say, even though I do appreciate her performance in the Mandalorian.

The "miracles" in Ron Moore's Battlestar Galactica are easily explained by Teilhard de Chardin's concept of the Omega Point civilization, a civilization that transcends the limits of time and space to be able to order events to its own creation. In the final episode, with the Baltar and Six who are commenting on the action, we see an intermediate phase of the development this Omega Point consciousness. I think a good argument can be made that Ron Moore is saying that acts of altruism and kindness are essential to evolving humanity past points where it appears stuck in a cycle of violence and misery.

Where would you go with it. Both versions are iconic. The OG was plain simple fun family entertainment, and the reboot was a deep dive into what it is to be human, our relationship with technology and the current affairs of the day put into story form. I just don't see what could be done now to better what has been done. TV has changed so much, and the audience expects so much. I personally think it should be left alone now. Other shows can explore aspects of BSG...... Which obviously has been done in other shows in the last 15 years, because it's been so influential.

I'd like to see Katee do something in the new show. I very much like the idea of there being another round of BSG. BGS reminds me of a Book that most could think of only as simply fiction, it's called, "The Prism of Lyra". There are uncanny similarities once you study both stories. I admit to being a Huge Sci Fi Nerd, which is probably why both stories, while far out, somehow seem possible to me. Great video.

When it comes to writing fiction for any media including television, it always has and always will start with the writing. The script is king. The old saying in film and television is, "you can make a bad film from a good script but, you can never make a good film from a bad script. Sam Esmail is a producer/writer/showrunner who clearly understands this. I have high confidence in him to create a well written, well produced, a well made new series in the BSG universe.

Hmmm. The ending of the re imagined series left plenty of questions unanswered that I believe lend themselves to the continuation of an interesting story. For example what does merging of human like Cylons and humans really look like? Where will it lead? Will the Cylon monotheistic and human polytheistic faiths continue to clash or will the foundational philosophies of the 2 lead to new revelations? Also the refugee fleet, having settled on a virgin Earth like planet inhabited by seemingly genetically compatible humanoid species, would have brought with them advanced technology and knowledge. Will this lend itself to a peaceful merger of the races, or will it lead to another conflict? Humans and Cylons would likely be seen as god like by the indigenous population. What moral dilemmas will this bring up and drive actions of the players in the story? Ah, questions, questions and more interesting questions! Looking forward to seeing how the story pans out. Stay nerdy!

Interesting if Starbuck returns to the show as herself. If the show is set after the events of the RDM series … how would that work? If before … everyone's older and not everyone is there. She could play someone else before the RDM series begins…a relative of Starbuck's perhaps from a time during the Armistice or before? I can't recall now if there was ever mention that Starbuck had family prior to the series, only stuff about Zack Adama. I'll trust that if she's involved, she expects it will be worth being involved.

I dont; see it how the last series ended. Unles they bring her back and de-age her in some sort of "found recording" format. Really they could make a off shoot but the show revolves around the ship the Galatica. So minus the main star the series is just set in the world and could be a off shoot with other ships. It might be interesting to see other Colonial warships that might have escaped the Cylon slaughter. Maybe not a BattleStar but another type of Warship with a limited capacity for Vipers/Raptors they could keep the older feel and look and add on. ************************************************************* If I had my way I'd make a show about a capable warship that fought it's way out at the same time the rest did or was adjacent the conflict and too late to the war, It goes on hit and run raids, recovers tech and resources left over from the war, maybe upgrades, picks up more crew/survivors/pilots along the way and does a "fighting exploration" possibly trying to track down the Glatica/Pegugsus or other ships.

Sam Esmail is not the destructive simpleton that Kathleen Kennedy is by a country mile. I would welcome more content. Moreover, Katie Sackhoff should be given all the roles in everything worthy. I get the impression that casting directors are like useless HR managers that screen out the best applicants when Sackhoff goes long without work. I love that she personally runs a youtube channel that is equal parts hilarious and awesome in the time spent not acting, but she makes every script better in everything shes in and id rather see her act.

A different character. They have done thst with other actors. In bsg. For me. Starbuck the hyrdid said. Kara trace is the harbinger of death, she will lead them to the apocalypse. I translated that . As the cylons will die , and apocalypse originally meant revelation, she revealed earth and life after death. Or an after life . Some biblical apocalypse. Final battle at the end of the world , followed by divine intervention and miraculous survival. . ( Catholic school) . But lost had s similar issue some people will never be satisfied with a spiritual answer , and writers would prefer a people centered story that a big scifi battle.

Hear me out...(beginning to every "great idea" 😂) What if they brought Katie back but as a different character. Her divine duties as a guide for humanity/cylons was finished at the end of BSG. But she is still needed to maintain "the Plan". So she is sent back with a new persona and a normal human upbringing like she did before but after a certain point she suffers a near-death experience and unlocks her memories of her first life in BSG. And knows her role in the great plan. So goes forth and secretly instigate and guide events and characters to where they need to be so that end point can still happen. So if the story is a prequel like during the first cylon war. She ensure certain "chosen" individuals make it through the war and survive so they can play their destined roles. So we could have a scene with Starbuck under a new name meet a young Adama. Like a brief little interaction where and older Adama who meets Kara in the future wouldn't actually remember meeting her before. A little words of wisdom and some light banter. And wouldn't hurt if Adama got drunk after a grueling engagement and tried striking out with Kara at a bar. And maybe getting decked by her for trying 😂

I adore Sackoff, I loved her in the first couple seasons of BSG and she's always great. That said, the last thing we need is more of RDM's Jesusbuck. That series went so horrendously off the rails after those first couple stellar seasons, anything new in the BSG franchise would be better off as another new remake or reboot.

Please stop Katie Sackoff's husband from making television programs for her to be in. She's a terrible actress. Every character is identical because she only plays herself. It's as bad as vin diesal or dwayne johnson. Please please please can we get some actors who can act.

I was a huge fan of the 1978, even with the cheesy acting and constant reuse of the space battle scenes. I was not to impressed with the 2000's reboot. While I will give it credit that it would of made a decent Sci Fi show, at least in the beginning, it was not Battlestar Galactica. The 2000's reboot was heading in the wrong direction, it started off ok but by it's 4th season it was making my eyes bleed. I really hate current shows when they Race and Gender swap characters but Moore was ahead of his time, going woke way before woke was even a thing. It at least had decent story telling so was at least watchable. Unfortunately, that's all gone out the window these day, we no longer have writers in writing rooms, we have activists who are straight out of their indoctrinations camps.....errrr I mean Universities who have not lived in a real world and the only thing they know to write about is whatever nonsense their activist professors filled their heads with. I'm sorry but I like watching TV and Movies to be entertained, not lectured to and or re-educated. Remake/Reboot/Sequel of BSG 2003, thanks, I'll pass
