Could not finish season 1, and absolutely didn’t even bother with season 2. And I’m someone who has read all the book, and plays lotr board games and card games. Absolutely disaster of a show.

In the case of Star Trek, I think there is something like sheer spite in play. Star Trek has *fan made movies* which have a much better grasp of what made Star Trek memorable, but Paramount wanted to quash that instead of taking advantage of it. They should have looked at those fan-made films as if it was a minor-league which would develop the producers and story-writers who understood the stories and the best of them could then "graduate" into major-budget motion pictures.

They cannot commit to any further production spending until the writing improves to at least competent. This means respecting the lore as well but they've overcommitted to both subverting it and confecting jarring scenarios to such an extent that it's already committed to a death dive.

Make a 3rd season .. fully commit to the fanfiction angle. And I don't known... do 2 seasons of pure numenorians or the witch King origin story.. aragorn origin story .. anything is better than the 1Billion plus they spent already.

Identity Politics trumps Good Storytelling... AGAIN. Inexperienced show-runners, inexperienced writers, all with an axe to grind that had nothing to do with Middle Earth. Amazon got what they deserved... DEI strikes again! It's the same problem across the Panderverse... just like Marvel and Star Wars.

huge Tolkien fan and I could not watch it at all. They made it unwatchable. If you like Tolkien's IP enough to spend huge money why then mangle it. If they want woke stories that's fine create a new thing.

I hate the use of minutes watched ratio as if you break that down you can see it’s not that much viewership. Even if you don’t take into account people rewatching it this can potentially be 15 billion minutes watched equating to only 8 million people actually watching the show, so to hide that fact they use minutes watched to make it look and sound better on paper. Another way to lie to the audience and shareholders.

The worst thing about these shows is that they will become the norm and therefore a standard. RoP was and is a disaster but it will become the norm. Look how many shows die on Netflix and last one season. Terrible writing, terrible concept yet money pumped into them. Are these shows money laundering? Anyway what I mean is I grew up watching what I would consider great movies and shows and that's my standard so I judge things from my experience. People of my age (our?) can see the difference between good and bad. So.....people watching garbage today will not realise they are watching garbage and it will become the norm. Its literally Idiocracy in the beginning. My voice and critique will die out with age and terrible writing will continue...........sadly.

It shows a lack of respect for the fans of the existing IPs. They think you just throw elves and dwarves and a monster or two on screen and talk in a certain epic way and the morons will clap and cheer and throw money at you. It shows they don't care about good story or the IP or like it. The fans deserting it shows these showrunners don't get it at all.

I wonder if there was ever a possibility for this Show to be any good in this current state the Industry is in. All this woke crap, the arrogance of Billionaires thinking they could just buy Quality and the most dedicated Fanbase in the world… it was an uphill battle from the start, no? Maybe if another Producer than Amazon had the rights and Showrunners of the Breaking Bad Caliber it could’ve been good but they still wouldn’t have the rights to good parts of his lore…

@auntykriest4 сағат бұрын
These "creatives" have no incentive to follow lore or create good stories. The studios don't care enough to manage the IPs properly so they just keep throwing money at these people hoping one of them will luck into giving a return on investment. The worst that can happen if your show completely fails is you go to work on a different show and ruin that and move on to another, etc etc. Until the studios lose so much money that they just plain can't afford to make new shows it won't change. With Amazon and Netflix that will never happen, and with Disney they're obviously determined to take the entire corporation down with them.

Mangold shouldn’t work with IPs that have established lore if he didn’t want to feel restricted. Here’s the thing, once you work with established IPs, you are bound to follow the lore and no ifs and buts. You can make changes to help tell the story and keep it to that, however, you still need to strictly follow the lore. Same goes for other directors and showrunners. Benioff and Weiss were lucky with early seasons for GoT since Martin was involved for a while and they still have the books. However, since they bumrushed the books and were left in their own devices, their flaws surfaced and it exposed them horribly during Seasons 7 and 8. I

The Rings of Power was doomed from the start. The showrunners seemed to assume potential viewers shared their values and culture, but the majority of the viewing public did not. Fallout succeeded because it stayed true to its source material, the Fallout games. In contrast, Rings of Power took a hard left-turn away from its original source material, diverging so much that it is no longer recognizable as being based on Tolkien's work. Tolkien wrote myths for England (His own words), drawing inspiration from the legends of the Nordic people of Northwest Europe. The Rings of Power introduces a diverse cast with Europeans, Latinos, Asians, and African actors in every mythical race. A mixed group of Harfoots (Hobbits), Elves, Dwarves, and Men feels out of place and doesn't reflect Tolkien's original vision. The inclusion of female actors in hyper-masculine roles, almost no female feminine characters, but some male characters in feminine roles adds to the dissonance. To make such significant changes work, the story would have needed to be much stronger. However, the writers failed to deliver a compelling narrative. In their attempt to update Tolkien's work to appeal to what they think a modern audience wants, they produced a very weak script. They should have named it something else, like J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay's "Rings of a Waking World," and then incorporated African, Asian, Latin American, Feminist, and LGBTQ myths if that was what they really wanted. "Deconstructing" Tolkien's work might work in a gender studies class, but it doesn't work as entertainment. I re-watch Peter Jackson's LOTR and The Hobbit series at least once every year or two. I own those series on DVD and digital formats. I watched Rings of Power up to episode 3 or 4 in the first season (can't remember) and never went back. It's not Tolkien-it's a strange postmodern interpretation of his work.
