I don’t even care if third movie comes out at this point. Angry Chani messed up the arc. Secular scowling girl boss didn’t make the movie better.

I liked the first episode but was disappointed by the second. The omission of the Guild, the focus on atomics, the conflict between Chani, Jessica and Paul; so much was dumbed down for the masses.

Absolutely love that theory. A being that does not see time as linear will be capable of creating his own loop. And the fact that shai-hulud are his limbs that extend through time and space, acting on Desmond to be his kickstarter sounds great. This is my cannon regardless of what happens in the series

The most depressing monotonous robotic voice-over in the history of mankind. Who talks like this!? Devoid of life, emotion, articulation and even the slightest hint of joy. I cannot stand listening to her. It is drone-like. How fitting lol

Is there a difference between what Lila went through and what Jessica went through? Seems similar but Jessica unlocked the memories of previous reverend mothers, not just her family members. I assume that over the 10,000+ years and tens of thousands of generations of BG, they learned to unlock the memories of previous reverend mothers as well.

I just watched the Chani Problem video and appreciate your POV. These people on Twitter clearly did not watch your video in the first place lol. Let me tell you, your opinion is very popular online. Chani is the Achilles heel of Part 2.
@piadox19 сағат бұрын
I agree that Chani was the weakest part of the movie. I didnt fully buy their love, especially from her side. Like she's constantly against him. Anyways, I'm interested to see how the next movie approaches their relationship. I'm sure Villenueve had some idea of how he'd approach Messiah before doing Part 2. I dont think Villenueve would end the series without the twins being born, in case someone else wants to continue adapting the rest of the books. There's no way the studio would even let him do that lol.

If Villeneuve has already condensed 3 years into a few months and changed Chani’s character this much by the 2nd movie, we can’t expect their dynamic to be remotely anything like Book Dune Messiah. Honestly I like some of Villeneuve’s revisions - like, Paul killing the Baron was much more impactful to me than Alya doing the deed. Honestly, Chani’s character in Messiah was quite flat, so I’m looking forward to a major plot dynamic being Paul getting Chani back by his side.

I think they should do a Star Trek crossover and have Kara in it. 😮. A Tv series where fleet discovers all the history of BSG and then run into cylons or something. Kara could be a Q or one of the original Lords of kobal.

And honestly I am not sure how he will finish The Messiah as the book is basically an inrermezzo between dune and children of dune. With Chani so different in his Dune I M hoping he will not change the entire story. And I M hoping for children of dune and god emperor by some succeeding producer

it was a very costly tribute to wokness. he wanted to boost female characters.. and hey Liet being female or male I didn't care for.Doesnt really change anything. However her and her ffemaile clique not being bought into the carefully laid superstitious that's not realistic in the society and it's actually a diversion from a book. a nd not a good one. there were some other however thry support the story in a good way

My issue with the ancestral memories is that anything after the event of a birth shouldn’t be contained in the personalities/memory. So, any Baron Harkonnen memories past the rape which led to Jessica’s birth, have no way of being part of the Baron’s personality in Alia Atreides’ mind. Herbert tried hard to find non-supernatural non-magic explanations for everyone’s various powers/abilities.

Having watched Dune Prophecy I suspect that Desmon Hart is an agent of the spacing guild as they are the only agency that has true prescience with their guild navigators who would see the Bene Gesserit as a danger to their long term interests. The BG breeding programme most certainly cause problems and as House Richese is a rival for Ix there is also a suggestion that the Ixians may have been involved too. Though the Tlexilaxu certainly could have come up with some genetic engineering too.

Overall I like this film adaptation, however I really wish they would have gone the TV route instead. Something high quality like Game of Thrones. Then you have all the time in the world to fully flesh out the story. The omission of Lady Jessica suspected of being the traitor by Leto’s advisors. The reduced role of the Emperor and not explaining the different mental institutions, mentats, guild navigators, Suk school, etc Especially the final act of the second film felt very rushed. The underdeveloped Paul and Channi relationship, the omission of Alia’s birth, the immediate start to the battle vs the other houses. It almost felt like the David Lunch version racing thru the end of the book. My guess is that they will do the lazy writer time jump trick showing Channi back in the fold. “Oh we kissed and made up”

I am personally very curious what perverse ideas D. Villeneuve was entertaining when he deliberately portrayed the character of Chani in utterly different ways from the way the author Herbert intended. The character of new Chani, like new Coke, may have some merit, and there are some interesting consequences, but the new trajectory of the series is as a result no longer actually Dune... Were the deviations solely his ideas, or were the changes imposed upon him by politically-correct studio bosses, or were they foisted upon him by the silly Zendaya, who foolishly has delusions of adequacy because like some rogue Brazilian soccer ("association football") player her absurdly long stream of multiple names has been truncated to just one? Those are interesting but disturbing thoughts...

Dont even give the gnats a moment of your time. I didn't like how they portrayed Chani in this dune, and especially dont like zandaya as the actress, she was awful. I thought I was watching some brat from new York the whole time. She was the only fremen from the hood apparently and not arrakis. She was better I. The first one when she didn't talk and was only in Paul's dreams. I was hoping they get rid of her for third one and get a real actress with some class.

It felt more like they wanted an American Horror Story moment, rather than taking advantage of the opportunity to demonstrate just how different the Bene Gesserit are when compared to our contemporary understanding of politics, power, and their relationship with them. I expected the acolyte to be reciting some Fear Is The Mind Killer, or a prototype of such a phrase. I expected a great deal of ceremony combined with what should have appeared to be an elaborate mix of science and alchemy- the sensible, and the illogical, all at once. Instead we get an homage to Soderberg's 'The Knick' without any of the gravitas. Why is the grandmother, not the mother, the most powerful of the genetic memories? Why is there not an internal struggle among all the others? Why is it implied to the viewer that a single genetic memory-strain can cause death, when in actuality its the failure to control her body chemistry? Why is the manipulation of body-chemistry not told to the audience or shown to us beforehand, to set up the a) possibility of its success, b) The possible consequences of its failure, and why not show off it with c) A procedure a little bit more exotic and esoteric than stirring blue food-colouring into some Welch's grape-juice and blotting an eyeball while saying "remember to breathe?"

I'm a nerd for Dune. I haven't seen the show because well, I'm waiting for it all to be out so I can binge. A ghola doesn't have mechanical eyes right off the get go, they are made in the Tleilaxu tanks and fully formed, those metal eyes that the ghola of Idaho had were an augmentation to the gift which was presented to the emperor Paul by the Tleilax. So I don't think that they need to have metal eyes, the ghola which grew alongside the first Idago ghola, Bijaz, had normal eyes. Now is this guy you're talking about on this video of any significance to the God Emperor? Who are we to say what Leto the 2nd could and couldn't do. I think he said something along the lines of only being able to get lost in his past ancestral memories, like taking sabbaticals into historical incarnations of his line. So for the God Emperor to be sending this guy messages, I dunno. With this guy actually being a quizatz haterach, and I would dare say an Wild Quizatz Haterach much in the way the mothter superiors of Arrakis are wild, it is possible that he is as you say. Perhaps not as powerful as the God Emperor who had both the power of the voice and control of self along with the tactical genius of Paul the Mentat Emperor among many many others, but as powerful as he could be without the finely tunned advances to the human race this guy is like having a composite bow while everyone was using simple bows, but the emperor in this measure is using tomahawk missals from an FTL ship orbiting earth. So as a primordial Q.H., more than likely, but in the same leagues as the God Emperor this I highly doubt. He's just missing way too much stuff. For starters, the Mentat School is probably still in its infancy stages in the show, unless the Jihad has ended in which case a bulk of its students and the founding father have been erased from history. Either way, as popular as mentats are post Jihad it is not impossible for this guy to have the training, but it is highly unlikely unless he has a whole lot of solaris in order to afford the education. Also, the sisterhood has not had enough experience yet with the spice agony, as they are probably still just coming to grips with how to use it and to whom it may properly service. If this is pre end of the Jihad they certainly don't have all of the pieces to get themselves sorted, and with the rifts which are created during times of imperial approval of one sect and the just endeavors of the another which has a better moral high-ground, this sisterhood is still coming to terms with itself. Could he be Vorian Atreides? I'm not sure I'd have to watch the show. Again, all of this is subjective from someone who hasn't watched the show but binged the books sooooo many times. Your video at least gives me a good idea of what is going on and allows me to make such imaginative conjectures. TY and keep it up.

I know this is science fantasy not hard sci-fi …but…it bugs me that memories of things that happened after the ancestor conceived a child would somehow be in the “genetic memory.” I don’t think Herbert intended that … but this show interprets the genetic memory as plain old spirits with knowledge of events up to their death. Obviously post conception information cannot be passed down genetically to a descendant. So the show is presenting plain old spiritualism that is fallaciously called genetic memory. I don’t think Herbert meant that mistake. It seems the writers did not understand the term “genetic” or just sacrificed logic and consistency in the world of the story to a plot device. If someone thinks that post conception memory was intended by Herbert please note why in a comment. I could have missed that.

I love this theory! Especially because it might presage what is coming in the movies forthcoming =] but more so because it’s like the biggest theme in the dune universe, that’s pretty rad 👑 🐛 I’ll have to rewatch the video because it seems like Desmond is trying to prevent the creation of the super being, not hasten its fruition. That being said, he could be some other factions soldier or tool trying to stop that and it’s just to murky at this point to know if it’s the god emperor reaching back in time or a foe from the future =] for me the big question is how she got burnt from the inside on a different planet since Desmond was right there with the price when he was burnt. Makes me think Desmond didn’t actually do the burning. Merely that he knew it was going to happen and wanted to see it. I’ll rewatch the vid and see if we are on the same page essentially. Great theory and I hope you are right about the scale of the plot of this show =] ø

I agree. The seed of the idea that Paul is not a perfect hero was already in the first book. However, a lot of Dune is writen from the inner point of view of the characters, which are hard to to translate into a visual medium. The movie oversimplifes the relationships between characters and the complex sociopolitics of Dune by dividing the Fremen into North and South factions and making Chani member of the somehow "less fanatic" group. I felt the director didn't trust the audience to understand the message of the novel unless it was dumbed down.
