LOL, I searched the internet to see what that wedge thingy is for and you just answered my question! Thank you for posting this video for us who are goofy. Lol. I just purchased this very same drill press and it is now sitting on top of my DeWalt table saw for now until I get to Lowes to get some lumber to make a bench for this drill press. But, for now and as much as I hate doing this but I'll just have to settle on using my table saw as a drill press. Now I have myself a DeWalt-Bauer-table-saw-drill-press-all-in-one! Hey, did I just come up with something new that will make me a millionaire? I don't think so! But hey any of you want a DeWalt-Bauer-Table-Saw-Drill-Press-All-In-One, I have it and its available for purchase for this very low introductory price of only $2,599.99 plus a trillion dollars for shipping and handling. Act now as these thng of a jiggers are going fast. lolol

I bought the Masterforce 12” from Menards which is the same exact drill press as the Bauer 12”, just painted green. They had it for $249 and then an 11 percent rebate on everything. Like you, I was looking at the 8” but after seeing it in person it resembled a kids toy. So,,,,, go big or go home :p

Thanks for the video. I’m planning on purchasing one myself, to replace the central machinery press like you have. I haven’t had mine very long, but I quickly realized I need to upgrade.

Would love to see a 17” or 20” version of this. Glad to see someone’s making a more affordable variable speed DP. Great review, thank you.

They have a 17 inch one on their website. I didn't see a bigger option with variable speed.

Now you can see how a CVT (Continuous Varible Transmission) works or at least the idea of it... Great video and nicely detailed, you have convinced me to purchase this drill press! Thank you!

Glad it helped! Yes, I didn't recognize that it was a CVT when I was making the video LOL But just like in a car, or in a side-by-side or UTV, snowmobile or four-wheeler. I haven't used this a ton, but it does work well every time I need it to. Really like the LED light and the easy adjustability 👍

Thx for the review. It looks like the speed adjustment is a take on a CVT transmission concept that you see on many ATV quads, cars and mini bikes. It makes me want to forehead palm my head 🤦with a “Doh! why didn’t I think of that!” Lol

Thanks for the review and tuning instructions! My tilt adjustment bolt head was 18mm (not 19mm), but otherwise I was able to follow your instructions perfectly.

@@josephking6515 I've only used it a few times, but it works so much better than the old harbor freight brands, which were wobbly, noisy, rattly, used those for the last 30 years. Finally spent the money on this upgrade, and Even though it's far from the best brand out there , it's Way better than the old Central machinery units
@mavision652517 күн бұрын
Like you, i have the Central Machinery. The new Bauer you have looks great. My only concern is how reliable will the speed changing system be and while changing belt positions is annoying sometimes, it is reliable long term. Even so, i want the Bauer now.
@anesthesiadreamin17 күн бұрын
I totally get what you are saying, and I have often wondered the same thing. My HOPE is that it will just be the belt that wears out (I expect it to wear out sooner than a standard drill press with multiple pulleys) and that the "transmission" doesn't wear out! But IDK for sure. I'm not using it all the time, but wow it is sooooo nice to quickly adjust it

I have a ryobi version of this drill press I purchased at HD about 10 years ago and have had no problem with the speed adjustment. I'm a home user, so I can't speak for everyday use but it's never failed me. Hope this helps any fear about the variable speed control design.

for drilling metal, usually 200-300 rpms is suggested ? Does harbor freight sell this type of drill press to also do the lower RPMS ?
@anesthesiadreamin2 ай бұрын
@@davehimlin2374 I'm not sure about other drill presses that they sell, but this one goes down to about 520 which is as slow as it goes. Still seems to drill half inch holes in steel pretty easily. Of course I'm using cutting fluid as well.

Have you or perhaps can you measure spindle runout of the MT2 arbor ? Not with the drill chuck in place ? want to know if its at least reasonable ... 0.003" ish or less would be good .. but would like to know what yours measures .. If wouldn’t be stiff it would not hold the speed!!! The spring would naturally slow it down!!!!

@@anesthesiadreamin thank you very much for your fast response! I tried to contact with HB customer service, product support, and my question surprised them. After 7 minutes of waiting they are told me that 3.2 inch. As for me 3 inches not too much for $300 drill press, but better than 2 inch on most of inexpensive drills. Interesting that the HF website does not list those specifications. Usually they’re pretty good at listing all the measurements. Other than that the drill table is 9 1/2” square and it weighs 82lbs assembled, they don’t list any other specs. I’m kinda curious myself.
