New Beetle: How To - Engine Start Blocked by Immobilizer (P1570)

This is a Tutorial to how to resolve immobilizer problem with code 17978/P1570/005488 (Engine Start Blocked by Immobilizer) in Volkswagen New Beetle from 2000 to 2010. Made in a 2004 New Beetle Convertible.
PROBLEM: Engine starting but stalling immediately
SOLUTION: Remove both battery cables from the battery. Short the battery cables together (away from the battery) for about 15 seconds. Reconnect the battery.

SOLUCIÓN: Retire los dos cables de la batería. Acerque los cables de la batería juntos (lejos de la batería) durante unos 15 segundos. Vuelva a conectar la batería.

Omg thankfully I have vcds, my beetle wouldn’t start Tuesday afternoon 16/4/24, it was doing exactly the same symptom. I have the battery charging at the moment as I flattened it using starter motor to get it on to my driveway. I’m going to try this procedure. I’ll let you know. 2003 yellow beetle 1.9 pd tdi “Brian”

Just before I tried your solution, I found another article that said simply removing the incorrect key (if you tried starting it with a bad or wrong key), then using your (correct) smart key fob to remotely unlock your door will reset the immobilizer so the car will start. Even though we used the right key to attempt to start the car when we first experienced the problem, I removed the key, exited the car, locked it with the fob, then unlocked it with the fob, and the car started.

yo lo hice igual pero mi control funciona y abre las puertas, el tableros prende todos los testigos pero no da marcha por ende no enciende. el testigo de inmovilizador prende pero luego se apaga

got a vw cc 2013....im bypassing it buy toggling the key in the ignition...but its a big pain in the ass...car stays on after i take out key...so i gotta take off batt cable,,,,,your saying this should work for me?...are there any downsides to this procedure?

Can someone help me, my new beetle 2001 gas manual, turns the key and does not release signal to the fuel pump, sometimes yes and sometimes no. you need to make a lot of attempts to be able to work. has anyone seen this? Could it be a defect in the ecu? I already changed the relay and pump

Lo puedes escanear a ver que código da y ver cual es el problema real. Si te sucede de nuevo intenta este otro método: Coloca la llave (que las luces del marca millas estén encendidas) y desconecta la batería por 30 segundos. Luego conecta la batería y sin quitar la llave enciende el auto.

Juntar as terminales no daña la computadora?? Ya había escuchado que es como un reseteo para la computadora pero después un mecánico me dijo que al hacerlo se podía dañar.. (claro que no se veía con mucha experiencia)

En mi experiencia no he tenido problemas con este procedimiento, incluso con otros dueños de New Beetle. Lo que si puede dañar la computadora es cargar la batería con otro vehículo.

My car has the exact same behavior (shutting off in the same way), but it's intermittent/random and it always starts fine on the second try. Is it probably still the immobilizer?

You can check the key first. The key has a chip that communicates with the computer and the immobilizer system.

Man someone help before the dealer takes my first born to fix my car. 2007 VW CC. this is what happens..if my car sits in the sun too long, not running mind you, it won't start and says immobilizer active. on any cool day it will start at any time of the day. Volkswagen told me it sounded like a cluster instrument problem and told me they could only get those from Germany and that it would cost me $1,200 and I'd have to wait 2 weeks, I left there and found several cluster instrument stores online and bought a new one only for it to happen again
