Yes, please continue the show. TBBT is basically Friends, but set in a geek culture and made for those who were born in the late 90s to 2000 instead of the 80s. As you probably guessed already, it's filled with tons of nerdy pop culture reference, so if you're familiar with Star Wars, Star Trek, Marvel, DC, etc then you're gonna see a lot of mentions.

So, the story is that when they were casting the show Jim Parsons walked in and did his audition and the show runners could not believe it. He was absolutely perfect for the part of Sheldon, exactly what they had imagined when they wrote the character. They had to invite him back for another reading, not because they weren't sure if he could play the role but just to make sure they weren't dreaming or something. LOL.

This may just be a typo, but I would say that the friends living in an apartment sitcom trend was more of a '90s thing, at least on U.S. TV. The '80s was more about traditional families living together, or coworkers in professions.

TV Trivia: This segment was almost a reunion of 3 actors from the original Roseanne (1988-97) - Laurie Metcalf, Sheldon's mom, played Roseanne's sister, Jackie. - Sara Gilbert, Leonard's kissing co-worker, played one of Roseanne's daughters, Darlene. - and Leonard played Darlene's boyfriend. Even more trivia: In Young Sheldon, a more recent spinoff series of TBBT, Laurie Metcalf's daughter plays young Sheldon's mom! It fits so perfectly, it's like they de-aged Laurie just for that role! Her daughter is just so good at playing her own mom, playing Sheldon's mom! ;-]

Mary Cooper is a great character!! She is a well written character. I love the dynamic between a scientist like Sheldon and his deeply religious born-again Christian mother from Texas. Southern mommas are great! You should watch the BBT spinoff series, “Young Sheldon” when you’re done watching this. It explains so much of Sheldon’s backstory growing up as a kid genius in East Texas. Fun fact: the woman who plays Mary Cooper in Young Sheldon is the real life daughter of Laurie Metcalfe.

So, Sheldon's mother is played by an actress named Laurie Metcalf. Metcalf's career has predominantly been in theater, but she's had had some notable roles on film and TV: Her first high-profile success was a sitcom called "Roseanne" (which had been show-run for a period by "Big Bang Theory" co-creator Chuck Lorre) and she has also received a best supporting actress nomination for the 2018 film "Lady Bird". She can presently be seen in the "Roseanne" revival "Meet the Conners".

Laurie Metcalf, who played Sheldon’s mother, has won multiple awards for her work in TV, movies, and on Broadway. She’s considered one of the best actors of her generation, and still appears with Sara Gilbert (Leslie Winkle) on The Connors, the Roseanne spinoff. Johnny reprised his role as Sara’s husband in a couple of guest appearances on that show, too. It’s all in the (producer) Chuck Lorre family (Lorre worked as a writer and producer on Roseanne). And get this: the series Young Sheldon, which chronicles his childhood until his entrance to college and just ended its run, features Laurie Metcalf’s real-life daughter as Sheldon’s mom, essentially playing her mother’s part in the prequel series. A brilliant piece of casting, and she’s terrific. Kaley Cuoco’s work with Jim Parsons continued to expand as the series progressed, and they did great comic sparring. Cuoco is underrated as a comic actor, her timing is fantastic, and be sure to watch her for reaction shots. She’s brilliant, like a modern-day comedienne from the 1930s and the “screwball” comedies. Her thunder was stolen a bit when Mayim Bialik was hired to play Amy Farah Fowler, which is too bad; I love Bialik’s work on the show - she got at least one Emmy nomination during its run - but Cuoco really deserved at least one, as well.

I was always curious to know the connection between these actors and the creator or casting director which made it possible for them to work together again. A LOT of people compare it to Friends but the only similarity to me is that they're both based on a group of Friends but they couldnt be more different, as far as characters go. 17:28 I LOVE your absolute joy with Sheldon's humor. The actress that plays Sheldon's mom, Laurie Metcalf, is ICONIC! She was on Roseanne and won Emmys for her role in the 80's but her career has been mostly Broadway (Tony winner as well) and movies since. I forgot about the glow in the dark gold fish. Mary Cooper is a force of nature. Whenever she comes to visit, you know you are in for an extra funny episode. Sara Gilbert, who plays Leslie Winkle, was also David Galecki's love interest Darlene on Roseanne. The woman who plays Mary, Laurie Metcalf, was Jackie, Roseanne's sister, as well. Both are excellent actresses. We'll see more of Leslie, too, but not as much as we will see of Mary.

Now that you've seen a few episodes of the actual series you should look up The Big Bang Theory Unaired Pilot. It's great if you like to see the evolution of a story idea. It's 15 or 20 minutes long and was made to sell the series to the network. The idea needed work and things were changed from there to the show that we know.
