Phenotopia Awakening is a ABSOLUTE GEM, it might be my favorite game I’ve played this year, it starts out slow but stick with it, if you love old school Zelda you won’t regret it

Yeah that first little dungeon is a slog as you're getting used to the mechanics and difficulty curve, but I can tell it is going to open wide up soon so sticking with it. I love Zelda ll and the QOL features of it being modern really makes it something special. I can't wait

It takes Two is an excellent game, and also Portal 2's coop mode is very clever and exciting to play with a friend. Trine is also a good example of couch cooperation. Thanks for the video.

The only review I’ve personally disagreed with. One of the worst pickups I’ve made in years. The controls and character response are atrocious and this is passed off by others as “increased difficulty”. If a boss is tough, then they’re just tough. But when the button mapping and optimization handicap you to oblivion it’s not difficult, it’s rubbish design. Still don’t understand how people support this game. You may love it, but an alternate pov may help.

Sunbreak finally pushed me past the 500 hour mark for a Monster Hunter. The game is so sick. Switch Axe for life! But alas I only had random players to co’op with since I have no MH friends. Fortunately it works great and most folks are fun to play with this way. Cheers guys! Merry Christmas!

Great list. Death Road to Canada, Cuphead, and TMNT Shredder’s Revenge are all top notch in my book. If anyone is looking for great co-op with their kids and you've yet to play Kirby and Forgtten Land or Luigi's Mansion, those are fantastic games. My 5yo loves both games as long as dad can help push him pass the more challenging parts. Cheers guys!

I live in the Northeast US and our city has a couple of arcade places that are fun to visit. One is a burger bar and it has a lot of modern shot em up games designed for just arcades. A local college has a video game design program and it has put out some amazing arcade games this bar and some others have installed. I definitely miss the old style arcades, but these new ones are great.

Fun fact: there was a scientific study about whether playing Plants vs Zombies or Animal Crossing New Horizons would have a positive effect on mental health. Co-ops games are by their very nature (usually) easier than single player or straight up multiplayer because the more experienced person can guide and try and protect the new player, but i'll say that Cuphead is definitely diving into the deep end. It pulls no punches. There are other ones that are much more forgiving.

Glad to see plenty of comments about 'It Takes Two', to me it is a flawless co-op experience and very deserving of all the awards it has received prior to coming to the Switch. I was pleasantly relieved to see that it runs well on Switch as well, especially for a surprisingly massive game. Also I have said it before but Phenotopia is a must buy! A cracking experience and one of the best value for money games on Switch imo!

I loved Super Chariot and Lichtspeer in local co-op, and Zombie Army 4 / Sniper Elite 4, and the one time I found a multiplayer partner online for Strange Brigade. And World War Z. When I still played Monster Hunter, I loved local play with my partner back then, between 3 Ultimate on Wii U and 3ds, which is a feature only that game used I believe. Sometimes swapping our save games because we both liked both the 3d screen and the big screen with more buttons version. And when I got home from working night shifts back then, I often played a quick few games online of MH3U with a colleague. He started out new to the game so I guess I was to him the helping, more experienced player initially.

The wife loves Streets of Rage 4 we also have the Megadrive collection so Alien Storm Golden Axe and the former Streets of Rage all go down well. Last year we went back to Golden Axe 3 because I had looked up how to join our special moves together. Mind you I think I got a lot more satisfaction out of it than her. Recently played a game called Guns, Gore, and Cannoli fully couch co-op with my sister, and we had a great time! A little short, but that works great for us because we live in different countries and get together every few months for short periods. We were able to finish this within a week and had a blast with it! Adult humour with some dark twists and solid gameplay. Given that I bought it for less than a meal deal from Boots, definitely recommend!

Switch Up Arcade does have a ring to it. I think it's completely possible for a new generation of an arcade to thrive in 2023 and beyond. I have been to a fair shake of pinball arcades just this past year and they seem to thrive as long as they have a side business happening be it a record store, bar, game store etc. Idk just throwing some positivity at the idea 😂

I think The Huntdown is hands down one of my favourite Switch games and actually bought it based on the SwitchUp review all that time back. It encapsulates everything that’s great about old school gaming, rock hard difficulty, endless playability and has that perfect balance between frustration and ‘just one more go’ all wrapped up in brilliant pixel art graphics. Phenomenal game which shows you don’t need a huge development studio to produce something so good.

When you guys were talking about arcades -- I think "barcades" were popping off a little bit in the US before the pandemic. I had a blast at this one place I used to go to on the regular; it was a fun time taking friends to a place where you can play retro games, air hockey, pinball, etc and drink. I haven't seen many of them post-pandemic though.

I used to love going to the barcade! The one I went to had a tv dedicated to smash bros 64 and Mario kart, while all the other TVs played 80s WWF in the background in addition to all the other regular arcade games. Always a good night, it’s a shame they seem to have fallen off since 2020

i picked phoenotopia thanks to you guys and i had a great time with it. One of the best Co-op game i've ever played is Contra, so many good memories of beating that game with my cousin when we were little, i actually bought the collection last year and we had a blast with it. Lovers in a dangerous space is another good Co-op for me.

I picked up Phoenotopia a while back on a whim when it was 50% off as well, knowing nothing about it, and I was completely blown away. On the one hand, I was sad that there weren't any guides for it, because I'd love to delve deeper into the game, but on the other hand, it's so freeing to go in completely blind. It's been a while since I did that, and discovering all its secrets was amazing. Might be my favourite game ever. So glad it's sponsoring you guys and hopefully getting more people to try this gem.

I got it because Switchup said it was inspired by Zelda ll, and what I got is so much more than I bargained for. It is a long and hard game brimming with mystery and the mechanics are so crisp. Hearing that there are 10 weapons and tons of tools has me really excited to dive back in sometime soon. It was also originally a flash game which is wild to me.

I played through Resident Evil 5 with a buddy (on Xbox 360) more times than I can count. It got especially fun once I had unlocked the hydra and the other special weapons.

There's a place near me in which a wealthy guy has collected old arcade machines and has them in a converted warehouse. You pay a tenner to get in and beers + food are served for pretty cheap. It's 2 floors of old school arcade machines, and it's heaven! He's also rigged up some switches to a projector screen to play Mario kart. It's a popular place, always a lot of people there.
