I inherited my dad’s Franchii AL48 12 ga., essentially a Browning A5 made under license, from 1960. The gun sat in a gun bag untouched since 1978 - about 45 years. I took it out to the range a few months ago and it ran 25 rounds of #00 buckshot flawlessly. I’d say the A5 design is one of great quality in my opinion.

Waiting to see what other A5 20 gauge versions Browning comes up with over the next couple years before making a purchase. I have the A5 Sweet 16. Like you had in your review of that gun I have had issues with the gun cycling. Sent it to Browning who sent it back no better or maybe worse with no explanation of what they did or did not do to it. I finally got it functional by running the bolt almost dry and making sure the magazine plug is not binding the magazine spring at all. I love hunting with the gun, but it has been frustrating. I would like to see you do a comparison on the 16 ga and 20 ga in the future with guns bought off the shelf, not provided by Browning.

I had a few issues with the shells feeding from the magazine tube with my 16 gauge. I took out the spring and shell follower and cleaned the tube. It was very dirty from the factory. I don't know if you still have that 16 gauge A5 I seen in a previous video, but would love to see a 12 versus 16 versus 20 gauge, or just a 16 versus 20 gauge. I am a huge 16 gauge fan, and that's all from experience hunting and clay shooting. I have had terrible success with all four of my 20 gauge shotguns for hunting, with random shot pellets always hitting where I don't want it to. I very rarely have this issue with 16 gauge, and when I do, it was my fault. 16 gauge like Paul Harrell said in a recent interview, IS NOT a down step from 12 gauge, and I can also vouche for that. I have only crippled a bird twice with my 16 gauge, done it many times with a 20 gauge, and it's a 60/40 for a .410. Had great success with my new 28 gauge, but never cared for 12 gauge to be honest. I always find 12 and 20 to be far too overrated. They are good, but 10, 16 and 28 gauges are perfected.

I really like how the host gently pokes fun at Browning's slick marketing. Browning is very good at marketing and image, but far less capable of actually manufacturing shotguns and getting them into gun stores so that we customers who are willing to pay $$$$ can handle and shoulder them and make an informed decision. For this very A5, Reeds and other online gun dealers require you to pay the nearly $2,000 up front without ever having been able to inspect the gun for fit, finish, and feel. What a strange time we're in.
