Good luck to them. I learned to ride in 1973, off road, with a 1953 BSA A7 Star Twin which had pulled a sidecar for 20 years, before I bought it from a pal for £10. It had no silencers or foam on the seat and a pal and I were the bane of the Forestry Commission and peoples' eardrums. His Triumph 500 had no pipes whatsoever and looked like a Spitfire after dark.

Since the 80ies I became skeptical about motorcycle design because they were becoming more and more something that resembles a transformer robot full of plastic. Then, in the 90ies, came the Monster, from Ducati. It obviously tried to bring back the glory of naked bikes but, in my opinion, failed because they remained, let's say, too modern, at least for my taste. So did the Japanese manufactors who were bringing back naked bikes but also too modern on their apearence. Then, finally, in early 2000s Triumph ressurected the Bonnie! It was great because they were the first factory that understood that were plenty of motorcyclists that wanted bikes that look like a bikes. I mean, classic styled motorcycles without having to be cruisers. I, myself, for the last 16 years stuck with the too overpriced Harleys because they were faithful to their design roots. But since the launch of the Bonnie T120, I was tempted to jump out the "Harley boat" and try other style of bike that could keep the charm of yore. Then I test rode one of them and it was a disappointing experience not because the bike was bad, but it was so good that it lost it's soul becoming some sort of transvestite, I mean, a totally modern motorcyle dressed as a vintage one, and they became too expensive. When Royal Enfield launched the Interceptor, of course, it caught my eye. Last year I test rode one of them and I got very pleased because they were beautiful and they were as modern and reliable as a contemporary motorcycle shoud be (good brakes, etc), but without letting it's soul to "evaporate". And they are afordable! Now we see BSA coming back, not just as stunning looking bike, but with the promise of offering the traditional character and feel to their riders and, as it was told on the interview, at a sensible price, just like RE! Finally motorcycles are coming back to it's roots. Finally one may think about riding something that has charm, tradition and heritage without being entrapped on the cruiser segment and being "robbed" by that "premium brand" marketing bulls**t! Hope BSA arrive soon here in Brazil. I'm pretty sure it will be so, or more, welcomed than RE. Peace to everyone. ✌

@@redtobertshateshandles I think that as a motorcycle that was responsible to bring back the naked design, but by being still conected to the "race craze" that assauted motorcycle industry since the late 70ies, the first generations of Monsters were on that unconfortable position of being kind a pivot. I mean, not so pure "street racing" machines, not so pure nakeds, just like the bikes that we nowadays call "classics" once were. That's their "problem", if you will. They were a somewhat "mixed beast". But I got to be fair, they've played a big role on persuading people that fairingless motorcycles still had place and appeal, so, as much as I don't love them, I do respect their historical importance. But I'm only talking about their first generations. More recently it seems that Ducati guys have lost their sense o "purity", or simplicity, and even their Sacrambler are too modern to be considered, at least for me, as something that fits into the modern classics category. The Italians that I like the most are people from Mandello del Lario. I think Guzzis are the best looking bikes, on classic regard, at the moment. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Peace from Brazil. ✌

I don't understand why someone in the UK didn't buy the BSA brand and create some beautiful bikes where they should be made, ideally near the original factory in Birmingham. I haven't got a problem with the Indian made bikes as I'm currently looking at buying a Royal Enfield and they are still excellent value even if the price keeps creeping up. If Morgan (based in Malvern) can continue to sell quality hand built cars that people can't get enough of, I don't see why we can't have a motorcycle equivalent. It seems to me that business men and women in the UK just can't be arsed to do anything unless it makes huge amounts of money for very little effort.

Great to see the BSA badge on a new bike again and the styling cues from the original Gold Star are pleasingly obvious, especially on the engine - They certainly look the part and if they're built as well as the new Royal Enfields they should be a really solid reliable bike.. It's good to hear that there will be production in England (hailing from the US, here). While they discuss when they'll appear they don't say where. In what showrooms do you figure they'll appear? The exhaust header .... double walled? It looks rather large; perhaps that's needed for the large cylinder volume? Lastly, I'm guessing there's a 'bread box' and catalytic converter secretly tucked away under the engine - that muffler certainly can't be handling all the muffling.
@PhilipBallGarry
@PhilipBallGarry 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I saw them yesterday. The large diameter exhaust is in fact a chrome heat shield. It does not fully encase the entire circumference of the exhaust pipe underneath. The routing of the exhaust through the cat is disguised like it is on the Triumph twins. Fit and finish look good on the preproduction models. It would be nice to see the radiator shrunk down a little though - perhaps by making it longer.
@MadChalet
@MadChalet 2 жыл бұрын
@@PhilipBallGarry I had feeling that it was a cover rather than a pipe - to me that's unfortunate. I have similar thoughts about the radiator - from the pics it looks obtrusive, like Triumph did a better job of integrating it.

They have tube type tires. HUGE MISTAKE. I can't help but laugh when I see a bike with EFI, ABS, front and rear disc brakes, and still has tube type tires. Tube type tires are probably the most dangerous thing on any motorcycle that has them. First, when a tube type tire is punctured, it almost always results in a blowout, which is definitely not something you want to happen at high speed. Second, if you survive the blowout, you are still stranded, because unlike a tubeless tire, repairing a tube type tire requires that you jack up the bike, support it securely, remove the wheel, then remove the tire from the wheel, remove the punctured tube and replace it with a new one, put the new tube/tire back on the wheel, and put the wheel back on the bike. Even if you are capable of doing this, you have to carry a LOT of tools and parts to do it, and it takes a long time. I have done it many times on dirt bikes, but it is just about impossible on a heavy street bike. You will likely need a tow truck. In contrast, when a tubeless tire is punctured, it loses air VERY slowly, if at all. Often the object that punctured it seals the puncture. All you need to do to fix a punctured tubeless tire is to put a plug in it, air it up, and be on your way. There is no reason to use tube type tires on modern bikes. Way back in 1986, Honda designed a wire spoke wheel for use with tubeless tires for the 1986-1987 Rebel 450. A cheap little 450 twin only made for 2 years. I think it is absolutely criminal that manufacturers are still using tube type tires. All bikes designed for street use should be DOT required to have tubeless tires. I do have a Royal Enfield Bullet with tube type tires, I don't ride it on the highway, and I stay close enough to home that I am within the towing limit of my roadside assistance plan.

So, is this partnered in some way with the BSA Motorcycles of Southampton (who used to use Yamaha 500cc dirtbike's air-cooled single engine,) but was the continuation of/from the old company in or near the old Supermarine factory grounds ??

Once "The Jewel of the British Empire" India, is ironically perpetuating England's past. Which included it's brutal colonial rule of India and the future Pakistan. Good for them. To forgive the past and in sense, and then embrace it.
