BTS got a lot of crap back in the day and still do occasionally for War of Hormone. Some people will say it's misogynistic. BTS got so much backlash for it that they don't perform it anymore and RM started to have his lyrics approved by women studies professors. I'm a woman and I have no problem with the song. I listen to it all the time, it's such a fun song and the video kind of reminds me of The Way You Make Me Feel by Michael Jackson.

Also the reason people got so angry at them for this song was because of a *mistranslated* lyric that was included in an article. The fact that they still apologized for it and rm especially started working with women’s studies professors just speaks to how much they care when they could have easily dismissed it and said it wasn’t their fault. The music video for boy in love is also a parody of the popular school kdramas of the time, where it was common for the locker slamming stuff to happen

I'm a 54 year old woman, and I absolutely love War Of Hormone; and Boy In Luv. And I don't find anything offensive in either of them. The thing is too, if we are honest, teenage girls look at guys the same way. The hormones hit, and the boy nextdoor, who you practically grew up with, can start standing out to you in a whole new way. It's a natural process, and they sing about it in an honest and fun way.💜👍🏻 Besides, Suga says "Your beauty is a cultural asset. It should be protected on a national level". That doesn't sound that misogynistic to me.💜

@@MasterGo89 It's not as random as it sounds, Hobi is talking about the fact that as long as he's with her, he'll end up in a good university (= creating a successful future for himself and therefore for her too). Boy in Luv was mimicking some scenes (the locker one) from a famous kdramas of that time and yeah it’s not how you treat girls which is why they addressed it in the song Boy With Love with how it should be done. War of Hormones is absolutely a favorite and I don’t find it anything but a hilarious look at young men dealing with their hormones and not misguided at all. Tae and his hilarious Chaos and butt slapping the whole video get me laughing every time.

From what I've gathered from another Korean reactor and OG Armys the claims of misogyny are over blown. The translations are really bad for one like saying women are a math problem and guys just "do 'em" implying something sexual. To be more accurate it should be "solve them" as in trying to figure out the other person/women. And to say I like your front and your back actually doesn't imply body parts like it does in English, but just in general I love everything about you and the tone in is very much tongue in cheek. The music vid scenes are hard to watch from a western perspective, but from the Korean context nothing in this video was unusual for Koreans and could be seen in movies/shows/other mv of the day. There was another artists who was involved in a controversy and from what I can tell BTS was made a scapegoat and distraction. These songs came out in 2014 and it wasn't even made a problem until a year later.

Despite them getting hated and being called misogynists for these songs, I LIKE these song so much! They live in the depths of my heart. For me they are the appreciation of “their” loved girl. They ask what she wants, say she doesn’t need to spend money with them, calling gift (for me gift from the heavens). I love them so much💜 True representation of the crazy teenage love especially with the kdrama and vibes. Thanks for the reaction! I always thought that the people who complained about WoH didn’t really get the point of the song. My perception was that it was SUPPOSED to be a bit over the top and cheeky, because they are poking fun at themselves (and teenage boys in general). I think WoH is actually really clever and shows a level of self-awareness, which is impressive considering how young they were. Boy in Luv, lyrically, is harmless. The video can seem jarring to people who aren’t aware of the kdrama it was mimicking, or even kdrama tropes in general. I would guess most of the people complaining about either song were doing so because they lacked context or missed the point, or they were just complaining for the sake of complaining. I personally have never had any issue with either song. I thought they were cute lol.

I just love to see their journey and progress, who they were as a group back then compared to now. And it's so fun to see you experience the transformation too! I really like RM's look during this era too! And yeah, there are people who are complaining about these early songs, and although I can understand them when it comes to the MV of Boy in Luv, I don't necessarily agree with the rest. I don't see any problem with any of the lyrics to be honest. It's just young guys singing about how it is to be young guys. Why should they censor their experiences? I love War of Hormone especially when it comes to these three songs, and I'm sad they don't really perform it live anymore, just because of the backlash. Thank you so much for the reactions! Just a bit of context regarding the hate BTS received and the accusations of misogyny. BTS was not the only group or celebrity that was being criticized. There had been a gruesome murder of a young woman in a public bathroom at a public transit station. The comments from the police and politicians blew off the motive/reason the man did it, with some victim blaming thrown in. Women organized a memorial and march. They received a lot of backlash (similar to Seweol protests). This triggered criticism of how women were viewed and treated in Korea. (Especially that women wanted/needed to know that their man was the boss, including physically. Women go to university to get their Mrs. degree.) I really appreciate you recognizing and acknowledging some of the cringy moments. We in the west see the criticism as hyperbole. We blow it off with 'today we see much worse', 'it was just an attack to bring down BTS'. The misogeny accusations in Korea was the same crap my mother had to deal with in the 50s. I have a lot of admiration for BTS listening to the criticism, not dismissing it, discussing it, reading about it, seeking solutions. They realized they did not want to reinforce toxic masculinity; they wanted to uplift their fans. 21st Century Girl was part of that response. RM actively/purposefully allied himself. RM recommended in a vlive a novel called Kim Jiyoung Born 1982. Most international ARMYs do not know the significance of this recommendation from an idol in Korea. Women in Korea who admitted to reading this novel were harassed. After Irene from the Kpop group Red Velvet said she was reading it, she faced backlash from fans, including public burnings of her photocards and posters.

As a woman I have no issue with a song like “Boy in Luv”, it is just describing A high school crush (and it could be from a man or a woman). “Women are the best gift, gift” “Who said women are cold icebergs, let it go/Females that make me go crazy, they stimulate me every day” - However, lyrics like this in War of Hormone go beyond the “crush” and start objectifying and generalizing ALL women, basically idolizing and “mystifying” their nature, instead of treating them as humans, I do find it dehumanizing, it makes me feel like bc I’m a woman I’m supposed to be put on a pedestal (I never asked for) to have my beauty (as if that’s the only thing I have of value) to be admired by men. “Her hair, body, waist, legs, and areas that can’t be said
If anyone SAYS HE’s not interested in them, I’d be dumbfounded AS A MAN” - this one is a bonus one bc it means gay men didn’t exist in the BTS lyrical universe yet (this is a joke ofc, but this lyric does also kinda erase the existence of men who just aren’t attracted to women, or at very least places some heavy judgment on them for “saying” they aren’t interested). Anyways, the boys, as all of us, are human who are products of their environment (a misogynist society that teaches boys from a very young age to objectify women). I care much more abt their reaction and response once they were called out than the fact they ever wrote these lyrics. And my respect and love for them only grew from how they handled the situation, specially RMs openness in an interview they did a while back where he talks abt how he received a lot of criticism abt his lyrics regarding misogyny and it made him do a lot of self reflection abt if he hadn’t been dismissive of women’s struggles and how he talked abt them in his earlier songs. I understand many vintage (older) army don’t find a problem with the lyrics, but I see many younger army’s who did/do, that to me solidifies that we are walking towards a more critical society where this kind of language and attitude towards women, specially young girls in school isn’t normalized. Nothing but love, great reaction. Just wanted to share my perspective.

Beautifully worded! I agree with you. Personally for me it was just a shock as I'm just getting into bts and I hadn't seen this side of them yet. I like that hardcore style! Danger 100% gives me MJ vibes. I truly believe he would've liked these guys. And this is WAY before dynamite and stuff which pays homage to MJ. JK and Jimin also did a dance cover to Black & White in these earlier days. There's obvious influence from the get (like the way the older songs mix this rock and pop and rap vibe, which was classic Michael)

Jin apologized to the girl afterwards. He didn't want to do that! Yep. No one liked that rude behavior or suggestive lyrics. Never performed again! Same for next video. They passed through this phase fast. Yep. Your other commenter was right. RM got Women's studies women to approve their lyrics so they never got backlash again. They lived. They learned!

They've performed Boy In Luv plenty of times in recent years, it's War of Hormone they haven't performed in awhile which is a shame because the lyrics aren't even that bad. But it's their choice if they want to perform it again or not, but I personally love the song still.

I like these videos and songs but I don't love them but I like to see the evolution of BTS. They have always written their songs and at that time the rap line was between 20 and 22 years old. BTS has released albums in trilogies... they were leaving the time of the school trilogy and released the album Dark & wild which was their Emo period haha Although the lyrics are not that innocent, compared to the lyrics we see in hip hop in the US, it's nothing. The War of Hormone lyrics are not my favorite but I don't feel offended either... nothing to do with, for example, Reggaeton that is heard in Latin America, which does have very misogynistic and vulgar lyrics a lot of the times Thanks for your reaction. We want you to be honest with it and it is valid that these songs have not been your cup of tea. Later you will know other songs that you will surely like more, they have a bit of everything... I like about 80% of their songs... some seem good to me but not enough to be on my playlist, but they are more the ones I like than the ones I don't Regards from México 💜

I really like all three of these songs. I know they have some questionable lyrics, but I've heard much worse. In watching the behind the scene for Boy in Luv, after Jin slams the girl into the locker, he immediately checks that she's okay. I think War of Hormones is my fav - it's just a fun teen crush. JK is only 16 in the video (he's 18 Korean age and 16 International age), so to see how good they are at such a young age is great!

actually, war of hormone is a satirical song, making fun of the behavior of adolescents with respect to women (exaggeratedly), and justifying that same behavior with "the hormones" or "because I'm a man", etc and being a type of implicit genre of lyrics/writing ignorant people don't usually understand (for this reason, with the rain of criticism of the song, RM took measures for the future seeking to "improve" the composition of his lyrics under the supervision of an expert on the subject ). PD:Satire is a genre or literary text that can be in prose or verse and in which, with humorous or burlesque procedures, ways of being and behaving are criticized.

K Pop idols are actually not allowed to date. So now that these boys are grown men 25-31 and should be getting married, having kids, some of the fandom is completely freaking out. So any girl they get a picture near, do a video with, have as a back up dancer, smile at... gets hate comments and worse. Plus they all have their mandatory military service too. I don't know how they're going to live any type of normal family life. If anyone will help them I would say it's going to be Taeyang (a different idol not V) he has been through all of this. He did a Suwichita episode with Suga and really has a lot of valuable insight for the guys. They did all these videos without a lot of real life relationship experience.

Every kpop company has different rules and heck I'm sure all the groups under the same companies have different rules too based on how old they are. It's been said BTS never had a no dating rule except maybe for the first 2 years after debut which is a crucial time period for the group and that rule would be more understandable. I'm sure there are plenty of kpop artists who are dating but are choosing to keep it private and I would not blame them especially if the person they are dating is a non-celebrity. It's their private lives which is none of fan's business in the first place. But honestly when you are so busy it would be hard to find time to date let alone invest in a relationship long term, it's just not fair to them or the person they are dating. Most ARMYs don't care about their relationship status. Whether they are dating, getting married, or choose to remain single we don't care as long as they are happy, it's only the toxic and delusional fans who can't accept that BTS are grown men who more than likely aren't going to marry them one day that have a problem with it. I'm sure if the members want to get married and have families they will make it happen regardless of what some immature fans might think. Are their lives going to be 100 percent normal, probably not but they can do their best to make their lives as normal as possible if that's what they want. It will be a great cleanse of the fandom if/when they get married to see who actually likes BTS for their music and not their availability. I think of a group like the Backstreet Boys who are celebrating 30 years as a group this year and all 5 members are married and have kids so it's possible to have the best of both worlds.

what annoys me so much is the claims were all BS because there were and are way worse songs in korea and western countries so why does only bts have to change and get backlash. im glad they did and owned up to it but the attacks were always in bad faith not because people actually thought it was problematic. when you see the hardships they went through and still go through you see the patterns and how people will accuse them of anything because they dont want bts to be successful not because they care about any of the topics like feminism. also like i said there were many groups before and after bts who released way worse songs and never heard anything from anyone the hypocrisy when it comes to bts infuriates me which is one of the millions of reasons armys dont get along with kpop fandoms. because those fans know their own favorite groups did worse and yet they dogpiled bts. especially since in 2014 army was not even close to what it is today in size and we couldnt protect bts like we can now.

Just to add to my last comment re WoH. Coincidentally just watched a Korean American gentleman talking about this song, it's part of a wonderful series called Rise of Bangtan which I HIGHLY recommend you to watch at some stage. This gentleman actually explains EXACTLY what they meant in the lyrics. So it goes to show again, the mean attack on a bunch of youngsters out of jealousy as far as I'm concerned. I'll give you the link to that exact part, don't want to spoil the rest of the show but it will give you the right context and just what utter BS they said about the lyrics: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZOwqqVvZZdqfLc from K-OG.

personally i think the war of hormone misogyny discourse is just a far stretched excuse to hate on bts, from my point of view there is absolutely nothing wrong with the song and it simply reflects a boy going through the transitional years of turning into a teenager as well as dealing with the hormones that come with it (therefore ‘war of hormone’)

I was discussing War of Hormone with someone who didn't like the song because of the lyrics and one specific example they gave was them referring to girls as a gift aka an object. War of Hormone is harmless compared to a lot of western songs and what was/is misogynistic about it? Up to this day I do not understand it! Western songs are more trashy when it comes to women (Rap). There was a sufficient number of second generation K Pop songs demonstrating angst and guys objectifying women to make the argument against BTS as misogynistic or loose lipped kind of hypocritical. That is unless you were a keyboard warrior bent on slandering BTS in an effort to clear a potential obstacle to your favorite 3 lettered concept group's success. Doing tracks which explore pubescent boys' emotions and group behaviors in working class schools in music is hardly a basis for getting fuddy duddie any more than watching it on the big screen. It is a depiction not a display of values.

I can’t believe you are describing their Boy in love and War of hormone as “Hard core & Intense Lyrics”. In my humble opinion…. These are raw, real, honest and about as INNOCENT as worldwide music can possibly be about young boys and their feelings…. I Mean Hobi’s “I’ll go and pop my pimple” 🤭. Have you Listened to Rappers explicit lyrics involving sex, p’word, c’word, drug use and women!? Even sung By Women! I’m sorry sir but respectfully I disagree and I feel this type of commentary perpetuates the narrative Army has been dealing with for a long period of time… Having said that; I respect your right to have formed your own opinions on your channel without fear of disrespectful comments! I have also noted that there are massive cultural differences and as someone that is 2 months in. I get a better understanding from army like yourself for these issues.
