Cool build. I always thought about one of these builds. I always looked at school busses for a frame and suspension. Some are cab over design and have a wider track wide. The frames are straight and long so wheel base is unlimited. Thr steering box your after is from a step van or just a chevy van. They have a different box setup then a pickup. Going be cool Brent is in on the build. Right guy for a fast build. Watch both you guys religiously. Can't wait till the next one

Having been a heavy truck mechanic for over 40 years I'm really looking forward to this build! I'm sure you want to remain with IFS, but if you chose to use a beam axle it would be easy to widen the front end without changing the frame width significantly. Just a thought. Looking forward to the next video and have already alerted several friends to the build. They are now subscribers too!

The motor home chassis is a great idea accomplishing what you need and leaving the one ton chassis for a future project.
@carportkustoms57642 жыл бұрын
Love it. But this width issue doesn't just affect your steering. Having such a narrow chassis with so much side over hang is likely going to make it feel super unstable with a lot of body roll around the corners, especially if on air ride. I would honestly consider making new cross-members and widening the chassis to improve stability.
@danpoole93272 жыл бұрын
Cab and chassis chassis are 34" wide. That's industry standard.
@poelmeister2 жыл бұрын
I agree with Carport. Mind you, if there’s two tonnes of haul on it, it’ll be even worse. And looking at the design, that weight won’t be sitting low center either.

Semi trucks that haul 80,000 pounds are build on a 34" wide frame....
@carportkustoms57642 жыл бұрын
@@danpoole9327 what's your point? Semi trucks have more rigid frames and are built for the added weight, torsion etc. Regardless of whatever point you're trying to make, widening the chassis will improve stability.

Cool build, I built a ramp body car hauler on a f600 chassis. Those 1 ton frames really aren’t heavy duty enough to handle the weight of a full sized car, if you stick with a little hot rod you should be fine, also brakes aren’t really up to the task, plus stretching the frame makes the turning radius horrible. I know people do it, but when I built mine I wanted to drive cross country with no problems.
@glassblastcollision2 жыл бұрын
I think he's trying to use sentimental value of his dads trucks into the build ,If he boxes the frame it should be fine. I'm sure if you spend some coin you could up grade the rotors,calipers and drums.
@RogerM882 жыл бұрын
You should consider placing the engine below the deck, with some side fans for extra cooling. Adding a top panel hatch for access.
@bigdaddy7410982 жыл бұрын
The rendering looks sweet... I'm not quite sure how you're going to get that little toy chassis to match and look anything like it though lol. Are you sure you aren't going to regret getting rid of the original chassis that actually kinda slightly looked somewhat Exactly like the perfect dimensions because it was... you know.... Designed that way? Although that would probably be too easy for you lmao
@pauldionne16652 жыл бұрын
I thought the same thing. The weight on the front axle exceeds what the one ton can carry, even with air suspension. The cab will have to be cut to fit the frame.

Yeah I’m pretty open to ideas on that I think that the light bar will be coming off of it as well as the search Lights. Definitely going to add as much style into the bed as possible. Also will be building a custom front bumper
@noobFab2 жыл бұрын
@@MakeItKustom Nice! Hopefully those hideous mirrors will be coming off?!? With the light bar coming off, it's really going to change the shape of the cab - flattening it quite a bit and making it look quite boxy. Custom fabbed mirrors could either allow you to really double down on the squareness or add some contrasting curves maybe? The custom bed sounds really cool - the roof overhang behind the cab could be something really cool to play with too. A place to build in a custom toolbox and wich housing, maybe more?

Your frame is a ladder frame. Take your cross pieces between the frame rails out and replace them with wider ones. Your amazing skills on the plasma table would be able to produce something that not only functioned but looked really cool as well. Not sure if you will read this before carrying forward with the project, but I think your best option is to widen the frame. This would require only building new, wider cross members. And would use all the same C30 suspension components the aftermarket supports so well. For the rear axle moving the spring perches inboard of the frame should get you the width you need. Just add a rear sway bar to address any body roll concerns, which came factory on many C30s.
