A few years ago I worked for a firm in mid-Cornwall called Wain Homes. The experiences was sobering. I was primarily doing 2nd fix in houses under construction. The standard of workmanship was truly horrifying. When I pointed out snags (that had to be sorted out and corrected before I could do my work) to the site supervisor (supervisor Ha!) He just laughed and said "so, what do you expect me to do about it?" On one house I met the new owners and it was hard for me not to sympathise with her. She had just spent £450g on a house that should have been pulled down and started again. I lasted three weeks before I just had to leave (without another job to go to!) I've been a carpenter for 36 years and I cannot wait to retire, the building industry is a total fraud.

@@joshturbin5343 all these sub contractor tradesmen have their own individual limited companies. Their accountants make their books look like they don't make much profit by way of over inflated expenses and the like. Less profit made = less tax. Plus the tax they pay on their drawings is less than PAYE as they draw their tax free annual as a salary from their company then the rest as dividends which have a smaller tax burden.

I just had my new fitted kitchen installed in March 2021 ripped out due to a really bad smell, Turned out the young lad helping the kitchen fitter decided to leave a half empty 4 pint carton of milk behind the unit and then box it in. Locating the smell was hard kitchen had to all pulled out. Thankfully is is being redone free of charge and was given a gift as compensation. Live in the remote western highlands of Scotland and it cost this company money for transport and hotel costs.

As a bathrooms and kitchen fitter you would be amazed how many poorly fitted new suites and kitchens that I rip out because of poor installation. I don’t know about shocking it’s absolute shit. I take pride in my work and once finished I’d like to think that I have become a friend of the customer and someone who they can trust. Have pride in your work or get lost and leave it to someone that knows what they are doing and has some respect in themselves. I’ve seen plenty of amateurs turn out some amazing workmanship that would put this to shame.

Bit far fetched stating it could be worthless. If the house doesn’t comply with building regs then it’s on the builder if it’s a load of wee snottery issues you can get them fixed. There’s nothing in any of these vids to suggest the house is that bad it’s now actually worthless

I have a brand new house with similar soil pipe and ventilation fan issues, also i have tiny single panel radiators, the clerk of works came over and recons to pass inspection the rads only have to be capable of bringing a room (living space like bedroom, lounge etc) to 15c and maintain it. I can have my heating on 24/7 and it will reach 19c. The developer isn't interested in sorting it as it's above the 15c specs, so looks like im going to have to buy new radiators what a joke, brand new house that is colder than an old house with no insulation or double glazing!!! Persimmon homes if you are interested btw.

Site manager goes "But it's getting CML'd on Friday" The poor bloke just looked at me with one of them 'Am I talking to myself here' looks, totally bemused grin in a 'Is he taken the piss?' way! :D Totally pissing against the wind... I just burst out laughing because I see it all of the time, and this is what CML's do, I mean, it all means f*** all really, because if it did, we wouldnt see these videos, unfortunate thing is though, the thing that should protect new build home owners is actually generally down to why they are so shite... Once that CML date is set (And sometimes moved forward for no reasons at all) [AKA just dropped on everyone], 9/10 the shoddy workmanship occurs because noone then has the time to get their work done properly, it's just slap bang wallop... Push push push!!! It seems to me that in the most part, onsite management get told from faceless wonders from head office when a plots CML is, and site management daren't move the date back without getting a bollocking. It's worse in December with the run up to Christmas, because CML's are the basis of peoples bonuses, so they try to chuck as many through as they can, it's brutal and OMG, does some absolute shite get through. @@paulw8707 I can't see what type of pipe is used on the left side of the meter as it's in a black plastic conduit & only the brass nut is visible, The pipe on the right side top (the one he zooms in on) is copper & therefore would need bonding.
@paulw87073 жыл бұрын
@@Stef1487 no it wouldn't as the copper pipe is not buried in the ground no greeting any potential do you understand what the earth bond is for. It is there for when a metal pipe buried in the ground could provide a better path to earth than the installation, this bringing them to the same potential. Hence when the incoming service is plastic this can not conduct electric. coming from a 18th edition electrician of 15 years how are you qualified in this field!!!

As a qualified Clerk of Works I am astonished and bewildered and experienced first hand the poor standard of workmanship being presented and site supervision, the question is the NHBC have laid down set standards which are aligned to the NBS and Current Codes of Practice with this in mind why are the NHBC Inspectors turning a blind eye and not picking up the blatant defect's and none compliances? it's giving the good trades person in the industry a bad name. The industry needs Government certification of competence for the trades with in the industry and the developers and contractors should be monitored to ensure that they meet the current standards and penalised if they fail.

One, not all will be overseen by N.H.B.C . Two, no follow up by anyone reporting failings of N.H.B.C. or others to local building standards officer. Three , the "governments" decided the C.S.C.S card proved competence. The best tool is to name and shame using the national media .

The biggest thing that’s contributed to the problems is tradesmen working twice as hard for a little bit extra.

Valley set in roof not fitted correctly, no bracing at node points and couldn’t see what actually was supporting the valley truss as there should be bevel cut timbers nailed down to main truss roof to support valley set truss. SHOCKING

If you are buying from Persimmon, your problems do not end with the house. Check the terms of the ground lease and maintenance agreement.

This is the type of rubbish that gets sold to the poor unsuspecting customer and these developers don’t care at all, the industry should be quality controlled by a reputable body and laws.🌹
