bushcraftspain.es/product/survival-oilskin-tarp/ This tarp is a great addition to one's summer kit, can be a lightweight overnighter or it can be placed in your haversack for emergencies or minimalist camping. It’s so lightweight, you won’t even know it’s there. At $79 US you can’t beat it for the the quality you get.

As you may already know , the last tropical storm that hit Western North Carolina devastated us . I AND SO many did not have electricity, roads were closed and many people lost their lives, especially Lake lure. They had it the worst. That's less than 20 miles from where I live. Very sad. I do like 👍 the gear you have showed us on video and I think it's great. I can't wait you until you back into the groove again and show us some new videos. God bless 🙌 🙏 you and be safe. @TheLoreofBushcraft6 ай бұрын
Yeah, it’s a great piece of kit, I love the fact that you can turn it into a blanket and not just be stuffed in a mummy bag. The square footbox is also a plus so I can spread my legs out. It’s lightweight and compact. I have the jungle blanket as well. The only thing is it would have to be cold to zip up that thing all the way and if it was that cold there wouldn’t be any mosquitoes around so the mosquito net is useless because you can’t fully zip yourself and warm/hot weather. I tried and got too hot.

Hello mate, sorry for the late reply. I’ve been on hiatus. The small sheepskin throw I got at a fair in Scotland. But Grimfrost has great outdoor pelts and sheepskin and reindeer. The reindeer pelts will shed but have a good water resistance and a sheepskin I don’t even think about.

Hello Jose, it was truly was some truly great eating. Well, there’s nothing quite like having freshly ground coffee. When I am in town, I have freshly ground coffee in the morning as well and will not bother with it if it’s not freshly grown. However, as you may know, going out in the woods things even more are enjoyable. Perhaps it’s the ambience. You can get coffee grinders on Amazon or anywhere on the Internet. Just type in Coffee hand grinder. Mine was a gift. but I also use a stick or my axe handle and a cup for mortar and pestle to grind my coffee in the wilderness. Check out some my other videos and you’ll see me do it. Cheers mate.

When I got my tarp the wax paper had wax melted into it and my canvas feels oily is that normal because yours looked crisp
@TheLoreofBushcraft6 ай бұрын
Hello mate, most waxed/oiled material comes off on surfaces, it is normal. The more oily it is the more recent it has been oiled and that’s a good thing. The dryer a tarp is or anything waxed/oiled is not a good thing, because it will repel less water. Tarps need to be maintained (waxed/oiled) ideally yearly, but some can last for years on a stretch. Even a non-waxed canvas tarp can repel water as as long as a tight weave and pitched on an angle. Let me know if you have any more questions.

I see you camp a lot in bear country, you ever have a bear come into camp after you gone to bed , just wondering if cooking in camp like that would attract them
@TheLoreofBushcraft6 ай бұрын
Hi there, good question, once a Bear came in the evening whilst I was tending a fire and long after a meal. I just yelled at it and it took off. So that's once in a lifetime, yet I have been going to the woods my whole life. Right now I'm in the Northeast States and Black bear are smaller here due to less range, so they are less aggressive, even skittish. (Since 1784 there have 66 fatal human/bear conflicts by wild black bears. Less than a dozen non-fatal conflicts happen each year, and the vast majority of encounters end with zero bodily contact. Why? Because black bears are far more likely to run away from you than engage.Aug 25, 2023 bearvault.com › bear-attack...) As you can see, lately I encountered many Bear on my trips so I have taken precautions with a Bear bag, and my camp is thoroughly cleaned after a meal with charcoal and fire. I don't leave food around and I have no issues. It's the little creatures that are an issue for most as you can see on The History Channels show Alone. All those bears around but it's the little ones that steal their food all the time. Cheers

Any idea where I can get reasonably priced bushcraft trousers that aren’t seemingly made for giants? On a good day I’m 5’8” and most brands have enough material in one pair to make two pairs to fit me 😂

That tarp looked too small to do any real good. What is the purpose of the fur?
@TheLoreofBushcraft6 ай бұрын
Hi Bear, the tarp is a survival tarp, however, it can be used as I did in the summer for easy quick cover. It did rain early in the morning and I was completely dry. I’m 5’9”, but they do have the Survival Tarp plus which is larger, yet still nice and light. The fur I use as a knee pad, prep station, rug and sit pad mostly, but I also use it under my core to protect me from the cold ground as people have done for thousands of years. Thanks for coming along and feel free to ask some more questions if you like. Cheers mate
@100BearPaw6 ай бұрын
Oh ok. So you were just making sure the tarp had no holes and all the tie outs were functional. I know if my tarp didn’t extend a foot or so past either end of me in my location, I would be drenched. Rain comes sideways more often than not with the high winds. That area you were in looked like a pristine manicured landscape. The grass was beautiful. I guess your fur is pretty handy to have then. Nice video, and nice pants! Well done.

If you live in Canada, as I do, I would suggest avoiding Bushcraft Spain products. Why? Because they use DHL for shipping, and you will get hit with taxes and duty -- on top of the shipping you already paid. Nonetheless, great video!
@TheLoreofBushcraft6 ай бұрын
Hello mate, I'm sorry for your difficulties over there in regard to shipping. I presently live in the United States and have zero issues as you spoke about. Actually, DHL is the absolute best distribution company coming into the United States. It’s nearly overnight and no extra duties are charged. I order a lot of stuff from my old home the UK and it only takes a couple of days with no extra charges. I noticed that Bushcraft Spain has items on Amazon so if you have Amazon Prime, you should have no issues. Try it and get back to me and tell me how it went.
@lindapotter57506 ай бұрын
That's Canada, not BSpain...Everyone knows the UK has the highest fees in the world...lol. I made the mistake of ordering a miniature for my fairy garden...shipping cost more than the item I bought! I Learn quickly though...lol. Thanks for the heads up though.❤🙃😁

This is well shot, but I confess, i don’t get it. Why go out of your way to have ultra-heavy equipment when you can just get a dyneema tarp that weighs maybe 1/3rd as much and provides 2x the coverage? A polycryo or tyvek ground sheep would save a lot of weight too. And why bother with a giant cast iron pan? I’m happy eating Patagonia fish. Tasty, nutritious, nothing to cook, nothing to clean. Throw in some trail mix, or cheese, or beef jerky. No cooking or cleaning. No need for an ax b/c no need for fire in that weather esp. just looks like going out of your way to by old fashioned equipment to camp like it’s the 1800s. Strange hobby. And one of the best things i’ve done for my health is quite caffeine - it’s a nasty drug.
@TheLoreofBushcraftАй бұрын
Interesting take and perspective, I assume you are a Backpacker. The point of traditional Bushcraft is the value of creating your own things and we appreciate them more because one makes it yourself. Backpacking/Hiking is for long distances, but when you’re Bushcrafting you’re mostly sedimentary. My pack in the summer only weighs about 30 lb and in the winter up to 50 which I have no problem carrying in on my back. I run ultramarathons and I run hundred mile races, yet people will wonder why would you want to put yourself through all of that? The reason is it shows you what you are made of. I’m always up for a challenge and I’m always willing to work hard and then appreciate the fruits of my Labour. The pan is stainless steel and quite light by the way. I also workout hard and I’m rewarded with a beautiful body that I know could get me through anything. We do things in life because they bring us joy and satisfaction. I’ll leave you with this: “We do not go to the green woods and crystal waters to rough it, we go to smooth it. We get it rough enough at home, in towns and cities.” George W. Sears
