Please go back to your review of the Callaway Epic Max, Epic Speed and Epic Max LS drivers in 2021. What you said that these were some of the best drivers they have ever made is true! Back then, at approximately 110 mph clubhead speed the numbers of the Epic lineup were as good OR better. The Epic Max carried 282 total 304. Epic Speed 285/307, and Epic Max LS carried 286 total of 310. At 110mph clubhead speed. And you hit it extremely straight and long. Some of the longest bombs with the LS model were huge. There is nothing here to convince me to spend all this money on this new product, especially when the Epic Max and Max LS had the sliding weight track rather than having to remove the weight and replace it. Much better! This almost looks like a step backwards, aside from revised looks. I would definitely recommend investing in the previous 2021 EPIC Max, Speed or Max LS line to get similar performance at 1/2 the price. Not that these don’t perform well, they do but your numbers in previous tests of Callaway drivers even the Ai Smoke standard carried 286 and rolled out to 308. At same clubhead speed. Great review… But no thanks

@@vroomgc Well, 110 mph club hit speed is 110 mph clubhead speed whether it is now or 3 to 4 years ago. It’s the same speed. So the results that the club produces at that club head speed is valid. If there was 2 to 3 mph difference than no, but it was the same.

I've always been sold on the looks alone of the Paradym. I liked the look so much, I went to my golf club and got myself fitted 2 years ago for it, mind you I'man over 30 handicapper who's never been fitted for anything in my life and hit a slice about 50 yards right, shanked 1 shot and gained over 20 yards on my current driver. I've wanted to buy for so long and being the new year and already got some new Opus wedges extremely cheap thanks to Facebook marketplace, I think the universe is telling me this year is the year I buy the Paradym.

The annual new driver release is the greatest marketing waffle feast in gold! Every year new £600 drivers are released. Bigger, faster, longer, more forgiving oh and better! Most of the time it’s a new pain job!!! Save your money and get last years for half the price!!

To be honest club fitting is overrated. I’ve played my best golf over the years when I’ve taken irons straight off the rack and bought them after a waggle!! Also drivers are the same. I’ve had one or 2 disasters with fittings.. expensive drivers that were terrible after the fitting

I was curious to see to what extent technology has advanced clubhead performance, so I looked at some prior review of drivers done by you (Rick). As an example here are some stats from videos of your reviews/comparisons of the 2016 and 2017 Taylormade M1. 2016 M1 Ave Spin 2008 Ave Carry 282 Ave Distance 304 Ave CHSpd 1095 2017 M1 Ave Spin 2100 Ave Carry 282 Ave Distance 304 Ave CHSpd 1103 So, based on your stats for these new/newer drivers, it seems like for all the marketing hype there is no SIGNIFICANT improvement in performance. @@golfbiker Yep, I kinda forgot to put the decimal in there....BTW, Rick has tested clubs now 7-8 years old (TM and Ping I think) where he was hitting it 324, 329 total per his GC Quad. He's older now but looks bigger and I presume stronger, so his Swing speed should be holding up. Thanks/MG

We don't all want more distance. I bought a Calloway Epic Max last year and it is on average 7 to 8 metres shorter than my Big Bertha Driver which I bought 8 years prior. I'm a short hitter getting 190m at best with my old Great Big Bertha (Hcapp 16). The Epic is way more forgiving and has much tighter dispersion so I am on the fairway even when hitting out of the heel / toe, much more often, which I would not have been with the Great Big Bertha. This has made my game way more consistent off the tee. Graphite shafts are much improved too with reduced vibrations and wobble, enhanced feedback and comfort, and more custom options. So for me, a new(ish) driver has been a great investment when replacing my 8 year old driver as the technology has improved considerably over this time.

It’s amazing how they come out with different terminology, finishes, and other fluff, but no discernible difference in performance. There is no reason to buy a new $600.00 driver over a 3 year old $200.00 driver when the distance is virtually the same. Great review Rick. Happy 2025 to you and your family.

So we’ve gone back to the epic. Brands really need to start doing new releases every 24-30 months nowadays seeing as there aren’t going to be anymore advancements in forgiveness or ball speed. Pick up any Callaway driver from the last 3-5 years and with the right shaft they will all perform the same.

I just looked at the data from ricks review of the AI smoke 11 months ago. Pause this video at 16:40 now read the below data from the AI SMOKE. (Ball Speed/Backspin/Carry/Total) AI SMOKE Triple Diamond 158.4 2200 287 309 AI SMOKE MAX 156.6 2199 283 305 If anything, the AI smoke was getting better numbers for the ball speed. Considering you can buy an AI SMOKE for 350 and about 250-275 2nd hand I think its the smart best, they look kinda cool too IMO. Usual story isn't it, premium price tag for not a whole lot of gain. Just got an ex demo g430 10k for 329 in AG, that'll do me. My tactic now is to simply go to AG or Clubhouse on boxing day 8-12 months after a driver has come out and get a mint ex demo for half price.

Great review Rick! Just a suggestion, maybe do the “best drivers” of the year review earlier. For 2024 you waited until the end of the year, maybe release it immediately after you complete the initial individual reviews. That way the individual reviews are a bit fresher in memory for the viewer, and don’t require searching the video catalogue.

It is clear that you no longer see significant distance improvements over older models - it would be interesting to test the dispersion over the last four or five iterations of a driver.

Speed has been capped at 1.5 COR for a long time now. Essentially, drivers have been engineered to top speed for quite a few years. The last 5 or so years have mainly been forgiveness. Now, they are pushing aerodynamics to make you faster. At the end of the day, a driver within the range of adjustable hosels is pretty much as good as any other speed wise.

Good Review Rick. I don't usually like the Callaway offerings since the XR tbh, but this one seems very nice. I expect Callaway are jumping on the Taylormade bandwagon with speed and face thickness. The rules state the face cannot be under a certain thickness and although all the manufacturers claim their offerings are the fastest, in reality and in keeping with the rules they are all the same or very similar. If the face was under the limit of face thickness the driver would be illegal. Cast your mind back to Rory's Stealth that was so worn it was deemed to be legal but only just. I notice that all the manufactures are going with lightness, lighter more speed. I watched a video about a certain Tour Pro who was making his driver head heavier with hot melt, so this lighter is better seems to not be true.

This Driver nonsense is like the Bike Market. 2010 -2013 were the best bikes ever made. They were lighter, stiffer , faster, stronger. Now... they are heavier, softer, slower, and weaker.... for $18,000 plus. My 2012 Specialized Tarmac would smash ANYTHING on the market today. The same goes for the Golf Industry. The best part of this new release is having just been to Golf Galaxy and seeing all the AI Smoke Demo clubs from 2024 in the used section for $200-$300 depending on the head version and shaft. My son tried a 9 degree Max with a Tour Stiff shaft they were selling for less than the shaft would cost new..

I agree about the finish. Wish the Triple Diamond was mat black. But I’m very intrigued w/that driver. I’ve had the Ping G425 Max (XS) for a few years now. I’m currently testing the G430 LST, but will be swapping it once these new models are available. I’m expecting to either land w/the G440 LST or Max or one of these Callaways. Please also review the stock shaft options too at some point. Thanks Rick!

15.40 : Just a clarification on what you called the "Average Deviation" & saying "5 yards is nothing." That number is actually the "Standard Deviation" of all your shots. What it means is that about 70% of your shots were within plus to minus 5 yards of the mean - ie, 7 out of 10 were within a TEN YARD long zone. The other 30% were outside that ten-yard-long zone - could be longer or shorter. Cheers.

New test. Match every brands newest latest and greatest “forgiving” driver heads to the EXACT SAME SHAFT, as well as standard and LS models in the same loft. That will be a real “Head to head” comparison. I’m betting that they all do the same and they’re all the same with a different look. Using the same shaft will be the real equalizer and I’d really like to see how that plays out.
