here is a tip from a model railroader who also plays D&D when mixing paints we (model railroaders) use a set of 'eyedroppers, in 3 packs from testers that are used to count out a number of drops of each mix so you can reproduce each mix and if you use a 3 by 5 inch note card you can write the mix on the card and have say a 3/4 inch square with the color on the card as well, yo can then put the dry card into a card file to keep for future use. This also works if any extra that you have made spills for some reason, love the videos

This is a great idea. I already do something similar for painting, essentially I keep my palleteand write on it the stages from where the paint I was using had dried as a reference. This would work well for washes. Great tip

Black Magic Craft I’ve been thinking about your mention of a modular water tile system during the bridge fast build ... Could you not build it just like the cavern tiles, leaving 1/4”-1/2” border for shoreline that would connect to regular tiles where appropriate? Or would you rather make water tiles using the same method you used for the wet pit trap tiles? Make them as thin as possible and place them atop your grassland battle mat?

I know I'm late to the party on this, but on the next project you could using a crumpled plastic bag instead of a sponge would give you a more veiny texture. The technique is the same. Great work as always.

i was going to suggest painting the back of the tiles black for the reason you mention at the end here. I think I would have painted the vertical edges of all the tiles black (except those used for making spaces narrower - those designed to be stacked on others would have black smooth sides and stone rocky sides). Where are the railways? I thought at the start that these tiles were for underground mining tracks. You'd add those on top somehow? They are not authentically medieval, but are a fantasy staple.

If I remember correctly o spent quite some time trying to come up with add on track pieces but never came up with a system I thought looked good and was still easy to replicate quickly. I never ended up coming back to them.

@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial For wargaming, I painted the heads of round mapping pins to look like rocks, and used these to pin Hornby-style rails to cork embankments. Perhaps if they made Blu tack in beige, you could use blobs of this to attach bent wire to your tiles. I suppose it depends on how flexible you will need to be with the rails. I doubt that you will in a lifetime run more than a few adventures needing mining rails. My Proxon hot wire cutter arrived yesterday. No idea when I'll find the time to use it.

I got all the way to beige blu tack before looking at the name of this commenter and damn if it ain’t Lindybeige! I can looking for the dungeon traps competition after watching your video about the hit wire cutter. But I was going to partially agree and say I’d paint the bottoms and smooth sides black (or leave them base coated black) for the negative space effect. Just wish I had a hot wire cutting table. Keep up the good work, both of you.

Jeremy I enjoy watching your videos thank you. You mentioned painting the reverse side of the smaller ones black. That's a great idea. It is a bit more work but why not paint them all that way. That way you could throw down a flat textured battle map and use the reverse black side of your tiles on top of the mat to create a slightly walled perimeter of a very large cave room. A lair for example, You could then incorporate your preexisting shaped tiles you mentioned in the part 1 of these episodes for elevations within that walled off room. This makes your modular tiles useful 2 fold by using both sides for positive and negative space. Another possible idea is to use colored or textured paper to represent acid, water, lava etc.. placed under your colored textured tiles to represent the respective pools of material. just some suggestions- thanks again for sharing your great work.

Not sure how you're going to go about the no grid but I just recently started a no grid and what I did was make a measuring stick that was notched ever inch to get up to "60ft" of measuring. Most spells and movements are 60 and less and this allows for accurate diagonal movements. I use it almost like the dnd attack wing style of measuring. Anyways love the vids, I tackled the boat as my first ever creation and your tutorials were absolutely wonderful for a beginner like me.

DMScotty seldom uses grid terrain. He uses a measuring stick so your right on there. I play in a group where the DM uses a mini tape measure which is more flexible than than a stick. No matter how you do it, gridless terrain is not uncommon, especially outdoors.

No one will read this 3 years from release, but I took the corner tiles and did a 45 degree angle for the edge that doesn't mate to the other straight sections and I think it looks better than the 90 angle cuts. I get the negative space may be why you did the cuts that way, but you are never going to butt those up against another tile anyway. Just gives a different look that seems to flow better.

dunno if this has been mentioned in the comments yet, but, even as someone who lives by the combat grids, these tiles surely don't need them. they are all three by three, so 9 tiny to medium creatures per tile, one giant, etc etc. movement is 15 feet per tile. easy enough to calculate grid distance without needing the grid or even measurement sticks. great work btw! i will be making myself some of these as soon as i can, but I'm considering waiting until i have a proxxon maybe.

yea....like I said I'll be discussing this next vid. But even if you NEED some grid type reference, well, it's right there. This set is a 15' grid!

Many years ago I adopted the hex grid for cave, outdoor and other natural locales. That developed from actually lines to center dots, then finally to shading variations centered on the positions. You don't notice the grid until you look for it.

if you really need a grid why not put one on the black gaming board underneath the tiles you dont even have to paint on just get clear plastic sheets with a grid place on your board then put your tiles on top ,hth :)

Or if you are really clever some sort of projector with a grid would work :)

Or.....stop being a slave to the grid. The grid is a lie.
