Thank you for pointing out the wind. I will be doing one next week and also was concerned about the wind!

I recently bought the smaller 2*3m version of the Alphapet chicken run. It seems they've addressed some of the issues you mentioned (the door catch design has changed and there's no problem with the welded corner brackets). The tarpaulin stretches all the way to the ground in my chicken run so I'm hoping that will be more sturdy. The thing that has me scratching my head is that there is a quite long length of steel wire included in the pack. Unfortuately, it isn't mentioned anywhere in the assembly instructions so I've no idea what it's for.

Hi there. I think the steel wire is used just to knit together the overlapping netting so that there are no gaps in the coverage. If I recall correctly, I think that is what we used this wire for. Sounds like they have made some good improvements.

@@mycountrylife810 I bought quite a lot of extra cable-ties to secure the overlapped mesh. I'm not sure how uv-stable they are and how long they'll last. It's a pity that the instructions contained no reference to this steel wire. It has taken quite a long time to put it together so I don't believe the claims some people have done it in only a couple of hours (or an afternoon).

@@poshpoultry8721 Hello Melissa, I have reinforced my unit. Not using the ridiculous zipties, I used galvanized wire, but I also layered wire mesh. I put pressure treated fence posts around the base with a chicken wire apron attached around the unit. This will keep coyotes and feral dogs from digging under the unit to get to the chickens.

guess I lucked out on my netting; it was just wide enough to come out on each metal support and of course reach both ends too! I did like you did I think and wrapped the netting around the bottom frame pole. I decided I didn't trust just the zip ties though! I cut my netting where I had long strands of the netting wire, so I could bend the strands around the other side of the netting several times making it a stronger connection. Hopefully I explained myself well enough that you understand what I did? Still added the zip ties to the bottom as well, an extra bit of protection hoping predators won't be ripping the netting off at the bottom. Personally, I really don't like their idea for attaching this netting to the metal poles! Got to be a better way? I am going to run hardware cloth 4" high all the way around the structure as again more extra protection to keep predators from chewing their way inside! Just can't say I trust that netting the kit came with? I figured I have to do something different with that tarp too! It gets very windy here too at times! Think I may have to add some corrigated panels where the tarp goes now! Figure out a good secure way to keep the corrigated metal in place? May use self driven screws to drive thru the corrigated metal and into the pole frame about my best idea so far! Come up with a better idea, let me know! BTW, my frame kit has a more rounded frame at the roof line, rather then the V shape like yours! Not sure which is a better design though? Good luck regardless!

Nice video. Appreciate that. About to instal the netting, but trying to figure out what I’m supposed to do with the spool of pvc coated wire. As it’s pictured in the directions, but that’s all. Nothing about the wire in the instructions. First chickens and not particularly all that handy with things of this nature.

I bought a similar run, now confused about the door bit, there's gap between the frame, wondering how you managed that? The gap is big enough to allow rats and squirrels in! By the way, i bought extra wire, 13mm holes, the one provided is one inch holea, rats could fit in. I did outskirt around the run, because the frame has about 2 inch distance from floor.. again, anything could get in. With outskirts, it stops fox and rats digging.. also put stones/rocks/bricks all around inside to stop possible diggers.

I was thinking about this type of run for my future chicken coop. It’s awesome to see your construction and review of it! I would probably get a tarp and secure it to the frame. I live in a heavy snow area. Do you think it’d hold up against heavy snow?
@jason200912
@jason200912 Жыл бұрын
Best to just leave it as exposed mesh so that the snow doesn't collect on the tarp and collapse it
@joroP2BRO

use that tarp to cover all around the base 1 meter wide so the foxes do not see the chicken. hens live in the snow do not worry.

That thing seems like it's not going to hold up long term. Time will tell I guess.

Hi there. Like you, I'm a bit skeptical about long term, but if it needs some spot welding at a later date then it's not the end of the world. I think the netting may need replacing after a couple of years though.
