How nice that you have direct water! Your girls will need so, so, so much more ventilation

Windows for those hot summer nights! Of course with hardware cloth over them for protection. My 12’x16’ coop has six plus two doors.

Here is a suggestion… remove the shavings that are on your droppings board and add PDZ coop fresh.. just a thin layer… it will absorb the moisture in the poop and in the morning use a pooper scooper to pick up the droppings… I also use a taping knife and scrape the poop to a pile and sift through the poop scoop

100 % that's exactly what I would do

@@sandralafond3818 it was a game changer for me in my coop.. I clean the droppings every morning and add them to a compost container that I share with gardening neighbors

@joy adams Same! It's absorbent and helps with odor. It also lasts and lasts and lasts... For those who might try this: buy the stuff for horses, rather than chickens. It's the same - but way cheaper.

Your girls are growing like weeds ! So precious/ helpful and smart❤....I've learned here in Central FL that shade and ventilation are 2 primary coop must- haves....I painted 2 coats of flex seal on the plywood floor for easier washing/ protection and am happy with this. I hope all your hens love their new home ~ you've put lots of thought into the logistics.

Sir- Could the chickens that are avoiding the nesting boxes be due to, it gets very hot in there when laying.
@CountryLivingExperience
@CountryLivingExperience Жыл бұрын
No. The boxes used to be outside where it was hotter.

Do you worry about hawks attacking? Do you have any insight there? I'm in an area of Arizona where they are pretty common and was told they will take a chicken out.
@CountryLivingExperience

No. My dog patrols. I have not had a hawk problem before. They will take chickens out though.

It's kinda funny that the chicken you demonstrated clipping the wings, has a lot of the traits of 2 of my birds. I was told initially that they were cinnamon queens, but then I found out that they were some kind of Easter eggers. They have the green feet, and colored egg's (green). Mine aren't the same based on the feathers though, they have a black core with brown around the edges of the feathers on their necks / upper chests. I like the work you did, I need to work on getting a coop built up like you have. But it will have to wait until I finish my Tiny home build I am about to start.

There are so many chicken breeds, it is difficult to tell sometimes. Good luck on your tiny house build.

That is true, and they make new breeds accidentally all the time. Oops shouldn't a left that rooster in there. LOL And thanks for the well wishes, I'll be recording it so people can get a good laugh at my attempt at being a builder. :D

In one of your other videos, you talked about how roosting bars need to be 1.5" and not flat (1x3 boards) yet this video you ended up doing the boards. Why the change?

I did but I said it was just an option. This was easy and quick for me to build with the materials I had on hand at the time.

U may should consider using white 4x8 polyvinyl sheets from lowes. This is commonly used in commercial bathrooms. The cost is favorable instead of linoleum. I used the linoleum, and it is not as waterproof as I thought.

Sorry, coyotes and fox will leap right over the fence. If you are close by working in the yard it helps keep the girls from wandering far.
