Lol how much did that trophy cost them.......davie lost the tender and whined and played the "Quebec" card until their tantrums got some work pulled back from the other yards who won't soon forget that and the fact that tenders from pwcgc aren't worth the paper they are written on......

Chinese steel and Chinese piping. It is a problem on the west coast when bean counters get to be in charge of a ship's refit. All ships have a half life, and require a major refit at that time, perhaps 15 or 20 years. Parts that have worked for their expected life span are replaced with China sourced material and bingo, breakdowns. The bean counter gets a raise and a promotion.

funniest thing is Canada produces great steel and ships it south.

Canada can't do anything right when it comes to military procurement no matter whether we build our own or buy another country's 2nd hand crap. Why is it countries so much smaller than our's such as Sweden and Israel can manage to build modern, effective equipment? It isn't either political party's sole fault as both have made poor decisions. What I blame it on is the creeping normalcy of progressive thought that has infected every aspect of Canadian life, aided and abetted by the various provinces' ministries of education that have turned our schools into indoctrination zones, the CBC for constantly shilling for the Liberal Party, and a general distaste for any forthright action by Canada on the world scene that might incur the ire of so-called enlightened elites. During WWII Canada had a massive naval fleet of 1,140 surface ships and was the world's 3rd largest Navy at the end of the war. Post war, our Air Force was one of the finest and we kept a Combat Air Group in Germany as part of our NATO commitment. Canadian pilots would regularly buzz East German airfields taunting them to come up and 'play'. Could you imagine if a Canadian pilot did that today? The entire Air Force would be shut down for Sensitivity training. Canadians need to stand in front of a mirror, look themselves in eye and ask what have they done to fight the PC culture that has emasculated Canada slowly but surely.

yup, It's embarrassing. Being Canadian, I'm ashamed to admit it. How can we not even make our own ships properly? A ship costing over 200 million, shouldn't have these issues. The ship seller states they stand by their ships, well then it's their responsibility for all repairs.

Thanks for this revealing item.It will be reported in parliament and a federal commission will be convened to carefully examine it.Eventually recommendations will be issued and voted on and put into place.Procurement/design will be straightforward and professionally co-ordinated .Work itself on the floor honestly and carefully done by a highly effective competent management-labour team.Every penny will be accounted for and the project will likely come in under budget with no time or cost overuns.The ships, built to exacting specs and the best of materials will have a lifetime double the industry average of up to a century, only needing a light maintenance every few years.Now have another toke.

Doesn't surprise me at all with chronic problems for Canada's shipbuilding industry and even our frigate problem had chronic problems at first as well years spilt between Davie in Quebec and Saint John shipbuilding in NB at the time same with upholder class submarines that former PM Chretien brought from the Royal Navy as well our coastal defence vessels and for some reason whether it's Navy coast guard or government fleet services includes RCMP boats as well. We always seem to be over budget and chronic design flaws with new ship design for Canada and I wonder if it's the shipbuilding industry having issues with personnel or something else that we need to fix in Canada's shipbuilding industry period. Defence procurement are always long and behind schedule at times but also late on arrival and case point the lack of active support vessels on both coast beside the MV Areisk from Davie shipbuilding

+Bill Kastelein That's like saying why do we need police when we have the military. What the Military does and the Coast does are similar but very different. We need the Coast Guard and they need a particular type of ships that differ from Military vessels.

These are Dutch designed patrol boats from Damen. Unfortunately the quality control problems are all Canadian. What do Canadians expect when they haven't built a naval ship in more than twenty years? What do you expect when you let your shipyards rot? Those shipyard rookies of thirty years ago have retired, and long before that they were laid off. When will Canada learn you can't turn on and off shipbuilding and defense kit production as easy as turning on and off a light switch?
@johnwang99145 жыл бұрын
The Navy contracted Davies for the new auxiliary which is the hull of an old cargo ship refitted with new superstructure to be an auxiliary owned by Davies and leased to the Navy with an option to buy. Then there's the new Frigate fiasco where the bid request was changed to favor a contractor after the request replies came back. Canada needs to revamp their acquisition process, clearly there's some corruption issues as well as the idiotic process of ordering a whole bunch of ships at a time then wait for rust out before ordering more. How can you retain an industry if you only order once every forty years.
