@@ShotByMyles This is amazing! Do you know if you can isolate the color and then use a blur effect? I want to soften skin like you can in davinci?

Jonathan Schanbacher you should be able to apply the colour or shape mask to almost any effect :) Skin smoothing doesn’t work so well on FCPX though, without any plug ins I recommend trying the ‘cartoon’ effect on a very low setting and with a colour mask for the skin tone. It’s not perfect and definitely not recommended for feature film-level work but it’s better than using blur :)

Jonathan Schanbacher yes Cosmo by Red Giant is decent, especially if you manage to get it on offer. Again you have to be subtle to get the best from it but I’m convinced it’s better than what can be done with just FCPX’s effects.

Hey, it's a stock photo I took of a chalk board I think, and then I masked out some bits and changed the colours to make it way darker and more blue... sorry that's probably not that helpful but I don't recall exactly which photo it was or where it's from!

Miles- enjoyed learning from you on the FCP color grading Udemy course. However, what I was after was in particular was one important detail- color matching a B -roll clip to an A-roll. I've tried the magic wand tools and they're not very good in my case. Do you have a course or pointer? Thanks from Palm City, Florida, USA

Hi Tim, sorry for the late response, I tend to respond faster on Udemy in case that suits you better :) There is a video in the course called ‘Matching cameras’ which should deal with your situation, I know B Roll might be of a different scene, but the principles will be similar in terms of analysing the contrast and colour using waveform and vector scope. if there’s something it missed please let me know but that’s my recommended workflow!

HI Myles, just switched to Final Cut from PremPro, it kept crashing and interpreted files incorrectly. Final Cut much better for me on Mac, early days yet, I'm sure I'll be altering HSL in a few years!!

Hi Alan, hope you're well! Yes Final Cut should work much faster and smoother... it's not perfect but I'd make that transition to FCPX again in a heartbeat if it came to it! Hope you enjoy it :)
