IMO if they wanted to keep things “safe” that people will buy: Jacks lipstick should have been black, Sally’s should have been the red that Jacks is (or actually a bit deeper red) and boogies should have been more of a midtone brown or darker brown. A black lipstick might not be an every day color, but it can darken up any Lippie and even turn any reds/berries into a dark vampy lip.

I’m 50 and I got the entire collection. Nightmare before Christmas is a Halloween tradition at our house so had to have it! Even if it’s not a perfect collection it’s still super fun 🤩

I’ve only ever seen the movie once and I understand the disappointment from that perspective. But if you ignore the movie and pretend this is just a regular 12 pan palette I LOVE this colour story! Cool toned neutral/grey and bright colours, I think it’s so fun and like you said it’s unique from them.

I feel like with the lipsticks, they could've just matched the exterior packaging (white, green, pink) or just do spooky vibes with a black (Jack), blue or orange (Sally), and brown or deep green (Oogie). The Jelly Much shadows have intrigued me forever and these look super pretty

I totally agree with you on the lipsticks, they feel like such boring, safe colors, which is disappointing, especially for this collection. Just wanted to say that I’ve been using the jelly shadows since they first introduced them and they’re really cool products! They can dry out, that’s they only downside, but Amanda has a video dedicated to using them and addresses how you can revive them. I know, it would be better if you didn’t have to revive them, but at least you can and they’re not just a waste after that. Hope you can get what you want from the collection! 🖤🤍🖤

Packaging is cute but I'm totally let down by the lack of "weird". It kind of feels like they just focused on the packaging and said "eh, put whatevers easier and cheaper on the inside. They'll buy it 🤷🏼‍♀️💰💰💰" Like you said, the movie itself and associated colors are blue with grey and, you know, amazing creepy colors. I'm getting really sick of this continuity problem. The "baroque" palette is more Nightmare Before Christmas than the Nightmare Before Christmas. 😑 I'm not giving any money for any of it. Just seems like allowing to let the letdowns to happen.

as a huge fan of the movie, i was incredibly let down with this collection. you know how cool the lipsticks could've been if they went a cool blue grey tone for sally, a green-y brown for oogie, and a classic black or dark grey for jack. this whole collection product color wise is so uninspired by the movie it hurts. i feel colourpop just half asses collabs because it will sell either way. they are probs worried if they went full in on the collab inspo it wouldn't sell as well. but with the amount of diehard fans of the movie, this would've been THE collection to go ham on and be super weird/off kilter with colors. instead we got whatever this is.

I talked myself out of the palette thanks to my husband. He called out that the packaging was the best part of it. I designed my own palette inspired by the movie using the Lethal Cosmetics palette builder. It's more expensive, but seems more worth it to have something I would instantly love. Im so glad that you made a comparison with baroque and ooh lala cuz that was exactly my thoight process: "i have the baroque, those pinks I can definitely find in my huge collection, and the orange is in some juvias place palette" 😂 If it had been like you said, with more blues and greens (at least one of each) this wouldve been an instant buy. I'd switch the hot pink shimmer with a neon lime acid green shimmer, and the dark matte pink for a matte kinda muddy blue. The gold coul've been a light grey with a blue hint/shift shimmer too. I feel like that would've been pretty unique.

I am with you on being sad about no blue or murky tones. I get some of the neon because of the scenes with Oogie Boogie but there's no green shadow so I still don't get it haha. I bought it because I love NBC but it could have been better. I think the biggest let down is the lipsticks. I absolutely love red but a deep purple or blue would have been so pretty or gray like the hipdot Addams Family collection. I am really excited about the jelly much shadows!!

I totally agree w all comments on color story. I get they want to cater to fans of the Colabs they do… I just want something that ALSO looks like the colab! Oogie lipstick could have been green. Sally’s a very cool grey blue. Jack a black. Maybe half the pallet could have been more NMBC colors and half neutrals that work well alone or mixed w the spookier colors. I don’t know that the color hot pink is in any Tim button films!

That Navy Jelly Much eyeshadow looks amazing. The palette's colour story is super pretty but it doesn't fully match the movie. They definitely went more with what they thought would be popular versus what fully matched the movie.

As soon as you said the closest comparison is Baroque I realized I didn’t need it. The pink colors aren’t appealing to me at all. The greys and that duochrome color are what I’m interested in. I do like Nightmare Before Christmas, but there isn’t anything that I feel like I need. Love your reviews.

Nightmare Before Christmas is one of my favorite animated holiday movies, so I'm glad ColourPop did this, the packaging is fantastic. Although I love the movie, I am a bit disappointed with the colors, I was expecting some greens and more grays in it. The lipsticks look good, so I might grab those just to have in my collection.

Amanda, you are not alone in your thoughts about all the pinks. For me, this color story is a total miss with all the products, except the liners, which are basic colors. I have stuff in my basket but I’m struggling because I feel like I’d be just purchasing it only for the packaging. Lol It completely confuses me as to how they thought the shades they chose were representative of this movie. The lipsticks are pretty much their go to shades for collections. Overall, I’m disappointed in this collection. I wish they would do some collections like they did the Frozen collection. I love the boxes! I have them on my dresser. I think that would have been fun to do a Jack, Sally, and Oogie Boogie box! Then products could have been curated around each character and the movie. I kept checking your channel for a video on this! I ended up buying some items and then seeing your video. I am disappointed in some of the colors selected for this palette. We needed a green for oogie and a light blue for Sally. Would have loved the shade Zero to be a duo chrome with orange shimmer to best reflect Zero and be a unique and exciting shade. I hope they are planning a NBC part 2 that more prominently features Sally on the packaging and in the colors overall. I have allergies to vibrant pink colors and I don't think they fit with this theme so I personally wish they were not included. I would normally not purchase for the packaging, but in this case I'll pop out the pinks and replace them with other colourpop shadows. Thanks for your video!

They definitely do dry out (unless they’ve really changed the formula while they’ve been off the site for a while, but I think they’d say something if they had) but Amanda’s video dedicated to them is very helpful and shows how to revive them. Still would be nicer if you didn’t have to, but it’s better than having them just be unusable!

I'm not as mad at the color story of this collection as everyone else is because when you ignore the bright pink, it actually pretty closely matches the look of the movie (which is extremely muted and cool-toned, with the exception of the classic red suit for jack's Christmas look - although I do agree a swampy green or some blues could have fit nicely as well). However, even though I'm super thrown off by the pink, I *think* it's a reference to how Sally is marketed by disney with those awful bright colors on her dress (not at all like she looks in the movie ugh). All in all, I still bought the whole collection because I actually see myself using every product except the pink lipstick, and the packaging will also make me extremely happy!

Thanks for putting this together!! I always love watching your ColourPop videos!! I totally agree with you…they missed the mark on several items where they could’ve done some way more fun spooky whacky colors. Personally, I feel the lip trio would’ve been so fun if they did a green for Oogie, orange for Sally and maybe a silver for Jack. Just something really whacky and out there specially since this is such a whacky spooky movie. The Lock jelly much shadow (and the jelly much shadows in general) are my favorite item from the collection along with the Zero sponge. 😊🖤👻 The palette could totally use a neon green, bright yellow, a true Christmas red, blue (like from Sally’s dress) along with other fun whacky colors. On the lipsticks, I think maybe Oogie should've been a cool griege/taupe color, Sally should've been a deep red, and Jack should've been a matte black, maybe even all of them in the Blur formula so you don't get the saturation and can mix/layer the colors together? 😕 And I agree, there should've been neon green, a dusty blue, a turquoise....😑

Though the lipsticks weren't the most creative, I was, ironically, missing those specific shades and I was planning on buying lippies anyway, so I did. I'm very disappointed on the palette. I actually prefer the cheap Hot Topic Nightmare Before Christmas themed eye shadow pallette colors over this new ColourPop palette! The HT palette has browns, nudes, a pearl shade, grey, blue, purple, gold, green, red, and more grunge colors that fit the character profile more in my opinion. I don't think these CP ones fit the movie colors of any of the characters, or even the backdrops of the film. Very cute packaging though, oh my gosh! The imprint details are super cute!

What would have sold this collection is losing one of the hot pinks / magentas and replacing it with a bright, Sally's skin blue, and a pop of neon green. As it is this is definitely leaning into the "christmas" part of Nightmare Before Christmas...which isn't a bad thing, just not personally my jam.

I bought the palette (I like the color story by itself even though it makes no sense with the movie), the jelly much shadows (what I’m most excited for since this was announced), the glitter pot (I like the color and I’ve never had one before), and the white liner (been wanting one and I’m happy to hear you say the quality is better). Idk why but I have this feeling they’ll do a part 2 with this next year like they did with Hocus Pocus. Hopefully if they do, they need those dark colors. The lipsticks were the most boring part to me, and the gems. The lipsticks should’ve been along the lines of the Safiya collab a few years ago. I do have the Baroque palette and that makes sense why this color story somewhat appealed to me.

I was initially confused by the color story, but the more I thought about it the more I liked it! I think it was actually pretty well thought-out even if not obvious.There is enough variety in the palette to create either a colorful and/or spooky Halloween look or a glam Christmas look. And the lipsticks fit that duality as well. That being said, I *really* wish there were a green in the palette. You could pair it with the purples for Halloween vibes or with the reds for Christmas vibes :)

The color story in this whole collection is really disappointing. Sadly I won't be getting any of it because it just doesn't do it for me and I refuse to buy makeup just for the packaging. TBH Revolution did a better job with their NBC line last year than colourpop did.

I ordered the whole collection because I love Nightmare before Christmas but I do think they missed the mark a bit with some of the shades. My 12 year old son saw me looking at the pictures before it launched and he said, "Mom, you have to order that, it's the nightmare before Christmas!!" 🤣 Also, the affiliate code did work on the entire collection so thank you for that!
