@Nilaus, why do you build your designs from left to right on your KZbin videos, but when placing your blueprints they go from right to left? (At least if you are facing where North is upward like I do)

If anyone is trying to use this to bootstrap cracking (the recipe set for the outer oil processors), you can do the following: - drop a liquid storage in the gap to the left of the research towers - temporarily route the light oil into it - drop a storage on the top-right and add some graphite - toss an out-sorter on the graphite storage to load it onto the graphite line used by the research towers You’ll now be sinking the light oil so it doesn’t backup. And you’ll be providing graphite to make the 400 red cubes needed for cracking research. After that, reroute the light oil down the lanes in the blueprint instead of the sinking storage; and get rid of the graphite storage hack. Finally, set the outer oil processors to use the cracking recipe and it should fire everything up and run.

Thanks for the blueprint. Tested it out. It was not as streamlined as I expected. Here are my notes: 1. In order for the blueprint to work it requires red science upgrade 'X-Ray Cracking'. Not sure if it is explicitly mentioned in this video. In your playthrough you have temporary quick/dirty red science operation to research x-ray cracking and then transition to this blueprint. I plopped this blueprint and wait what?: red science is required for red science :) 2. If red science is prerequisite than why not research Mass construction with red science to allow 600 structures and have blueprint in only two chunks. Because 8 chunks with 150 structure limit is a bit confusing. I needed to rotate blueprint so needed to change placing sequence of 5 and 6 parts (refineries hugging matrix labs). 3. Maybe elevated belts are more straightforward for blueprints compared to splitters. As I remember I needed something to fine tune after placing splitters but it could be user error. 4. On higher level if temporary quick/dirty red science is needed anyways. Maybe I should stay in that phase with massive storage for refined oil and use it later for plastic production and get my hydrogen from gas giants. That was my two cents. Thank you for your great work.

I personally go at 1 cube/s before 'civilizing' (with ILS) my planets - the reason is that you don't have enough time to make use of all that science early on. At 7th hour I am cranking 1/s of blue, red, yellow and purple. It is more than enough, and it is also time where you have to start switching to logistic towers and removing spaghetti. That takes a bit of time that can be used for doing the research that wasn't being done so far.

17:25 - to merge everything, you can use sideloading (or just connect two belts) and fill those belts with the priority outputs of splitters. thus items will come from production on two belts, and in splitters with priority will be redirected to a merge via sideloading. only if one or both belts back up at the sideloading, will they backup to the splitter which then outputs the real overflow to your overflow-output. i invented this method (and probably lots of other people too :-) when i built my fractionator loops: i first had the same problem that you have here, using a splitter to merge the loop with an input and split those two inputs to two outputs, one to the loop and one to an overflow output. lots of time, items on the loop and on the input would arrive at the same time and not fill all gaps in the loop. this no longer happened when i built a real loop with no connections besides a short belt (you could call this short belt a buffer) that inserted items into all gaps of the loop via sideloading. there still was a splitter, but it only diverted some items with priority to this short belt (to do the sideloading) and thus had only a single input and never two simultaneously arriving items.

Super elegant, love the design. Keep em coming Nilaus!!! Tip: If you want to have 'daylight' for the recordings, there's a mod called 'Super Night Light' that turns Mecha's light into a sun which you can toggle on/off. It would be cool if you could research an increase in Mecha's light and trade brightness for power consumption. Splitter: The lack of buffer in the splitters can be annoying but there's a mod called 'DSP Smooth Splitter' which adds a small buffer into the splitters. There's no performance impacts with these 2 mods that I've found but add a small QoL until the dev team can implement themn

This is a good build. I especially like the 2x3 array of splitters. AND, I don't like to use X-ray cracking in the early-to-mid game. With XRC, you have only one input, Crude Oil. That's good. There are two outputs - red science and H. If you do this without XRC, you need to make Graphite somewhere, and the two outputs are red science and fuel (or light oil as you like to call it). I prefer the latter because you need fuel to make plastic for yellow science and to make sulphuric acid for both graphene and titanium alloy. Which I need to build ILS's. Meanwhile, there's a lot of coal on the home planet, it's not that hard to get your hands on graphite early. THAT WILL CHANGE! for sure. But you know, the first stuff you build isn't that permanent. It's a bit weird to not use the early stuff they give you, but it seems to work out simpler for me.

I think about if this fractioning is really useful. In the early game, I store the refined oil into some fluid storage tanks to use directly after for the yellow science. In the late game, hydrogen isn't anymore needed from the oil processing because I get more than enough from the gas giants. Together with other rare resources (mining organic crystal, pumping sulfuric acid, and using fire ice), oil processing is only needed for some plastic to produce particle broadband. The hydrogen from the oil processing I normally just burn to avoid stopping refined oil production.

think if you didn't put both lanes of hydrogen into the same splitter, you wouldn't get the excess going to the tower. It is caused by more hydrogen entering the splitter than it can handle at one time, so bypass the splitter with one lane.
@J4MM1E23 жыл бұрын
I think this might lead to jamming
@alistair93373 жыл бұрын
@@J4MM1E2 It shouldn't. only when the first line completely feeds the research centres, and then when there is a back log in the splitter, will the excess go back to the tower. It isn't as symmetrical, but is more efficient
@J4MM1E23 жыл бұрын
@@alistair9337 Would the line that has bypassed the splitter not jam though? That one will have no alternative direction to shunt the excess and would backup all the way to the refineries eventually. If instead of having both going into one splitter you have a second splitter that could work. Then you have only one input per splitter and each has an alternative direction once they back up. This will require changing up the layout a bit, im gonna test it.
@alistair93373 жыл бұрын
@@J4MM1E2 so if Nilaus says is true, if he is making 6 per second, a lvl 1 belt can take that. the issue is that 2 hydrogen are hitting the splitter at the exact same time, on a belt one just waits for space, but the splitter can't handle it, so the splitters spits it towards the tower. If you bypass the splitter on one line, the line can handle the 6 per second: occasionally you will get some waiting on the line, but should be manageable. that waiting might lead to some splitter rejection but should be way less.
@J4MM1E23 жыл бұрын
@@alistair9337 I get what you're saying, but I don't think the issue is whether the tier 1 belt can handle 6 H per sec. It is that the ratio for red science is 1:1 for H and graphite and more hydrogren is produced than is needed. I think with the changes you're talking about will stop the uneeded early hydrogen splitting but result in the bypass line backing up once hydrogen builds up. If this happens the flow of graphite will stall, science will stop and nothing will move. Maybe im wrong and I'm just not seeing it though. I'll give the whole thing a test both you're way and mine later on and see if either solve the issue without the belt upgrade nilaus talks about.
