Great job. My conservatory roof is a complicated shape so there's no easy way I could do this. The cold and the heat extremes are a bummer.

Great work. I just can’t get my head around air flow in the roof space above the insulation. Isn’t air just trapped in certain areas above the velux windows?

The membrane is breathable so air will pass through, stops condensation forming, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠

Where is the overlay of insulation to prevent cold bridging to the rafters also this is your vapour barrier as you use foil to seal the joints. Moisture will permeate through the board. Thus doesn't meet the regulations of June 2022.

The trouble with putting these videos up is that viewers will see the clear skills of the person doing the work and assume it is being done correctly and perhaps copy for their own projects. It then follows that other viewers with knowledge of Building Regulations will post comments pointing out when things are not done correctly. He did batten down correctly to leave a 50mm gap over the insulation, however that only left around 95mm for insulation between the rafters. The total thickness of PIR insulation now required in this sort of configuration is over 150mm in total so likely another 80mm or so is needed under the rafters as a contiuous layer to act as a vapour barrier. The insulation over the bathroom is also inadequate, yes there is some existing insulation at ceiling level but this serves no purpose as the light tunnel to the velux was not insulated with at least 100mm PIR to prevent heat bypassing the ceiling insulation. All of these issues would have been picked up by Building Control making me wonder whether the required Building Regulation permission was obtained as it should have been. If you are contemplating any building work like this speak to your local council Building Control section first. So much that never used to require permission now does, even replastering or rerendering an outside wall, or replacing a defective felt flat roof can now need approval as regulations now can require the thermal insulation of older walls roofs and floors brought up (close) to current standards.

@@mikebarry229 " So much that never used to require permission now does" just underlines what a nanny state we live in. Soon we'll have to get a permission to put a picture frame on a wall or make a flower bed.

@@AlexGnok A lot of the ones people dont expect relate to thermal insulation, so trying to get people with poorly insulated houses to upgrade them while doing work such as replastering, rerendering or cladding walls, or reroofing or replacing floors, or any other thermal element that doesn't meet sufficient insulation values. I think it is more about improving the insulation at a time when it is least disruptive to the property owner as they are already doing other refurbishment work than nanny state, but I know what you mean.
