The construction of the Gordie Howe International Bridge is a major infrastructure project spanning both the United States and Canada. The bridge is named after Gordie Howe, a Canadian ice hockey player who was one of the greatest players in the history of the sport.
The project involves a significant workforce, including engineers, construction workers, project managers, environmental specialists, and various other professionals. These workers come from both sides of the border and collaborate to ensure the successful completion of the bridge.

Certainly a mindboggling project. When you look at the detail from your videos, you wonder how is all that possible? Engineering is wonderful. Thanks again for the birdseye views of what we woulld never be able to see without those excellent videos you produce.

It's good to see something being built! This reminds me of the nuclear plants I worked on in the 70's and 80's. Every piece of that rebar is layed and tied by hand to a design drawing then the form is cleaned of any debris before concrete is poured.

Awesome video of a once-in-a-lifetime type of bridge. The closing of the middle span marks a key date in the completion of this epic structure that will be used by millions of people and vehicles over the next 100 years. Can't wait to drive across it.

Only time will tell how long some of these modern bridges will last....especially with the harsh winter climate of the area. But I'd imagine it might be around for at least 70 years or so.

There is a similar bridge in Montreal, Champlain Bridge, opened not long ago, that has a rail crossing. It would have been nice if they included a rail crossing too!

I'm from the Baltimore area and I wonder about that too. I do think we will get a bridge something like this one but of course not on that massive scale. The access roads are already there (Baltimore beltway) and the new Key Bridge will still have 2 lanes in each direction.

Nice to see the progress. Do the workers need daily passport control access to the worksite? Or do they paint a line on the order and post border guards?
@veloise
@veloise 2 күн бұрын
As a civilian ... passports are looked at after one crosses. I would think that the workers access their jobsite from their country of residence, and then their PP or enhanced license is reviewed when they head for home.

@@veloise Or I would think that it could be for the time being like the Peace Arch on the border between Washington State and B.C. You are free to go in on "your side" of the border go over to the Canadian side but can't leave the park. My original question was in jest and no doubt that both countries worked that out during the treaty process for the bridge.

Now that I can see a lot of the surrounding area (at least on the US side) I am wondering why they decided to include a pedestrian walkway on this bridge. It looks as though there is really nothing around there that would draw or support a lot of foot or bike traffic. In other words, an industrialized area like this would see very few people out for a stroll or bike ride. Unlike the Brooklyn Bridge which is in NYC where there is plenty of foot traffic, or the Golden Gate Bridge which is in San Francisco and is of course a tourist attraction in and of itself and so draws lots of foot traffic. Probably lots of people will come out to walk across the Gordie Howe Bridge once it is completed and opened, but what about after that? IDK, just seems an odd place for a pedestrian crossing..... Do you think maybe this bridge might become an attraction in and of itself like the Golden Gate or Brooklyn Bridge?
