NEW COUNTERTOP & WINDOW INSTALLATION DAY and figuring out how to seal and protect our new wood top

This week was a busy week at our house with the counter top guys, the wood guys and the window guys all arriving for installation. It was particulary tough having the flu while needing to coordinate everything BUT I'm so glad we pushed through because now the kitchen feels warmer, we having a 'more-finished' scullery, and we no longer have a natural aircon in our master bedroom and bathroom.

Oh my goodness, that sounded JUST like my dear husband when H was asking you if you’d had meds, warm enough clothes etc😅. Men always try to fix things when all we want is a bit of sympathy. 🇬🇧 So beautiful…… everything! You might want to consider filling the natural imperfections with wax furniture repair sticks, which you heat up and put into the cracks. You can get these in a range of colours and can match most woods. Or you could use some clear resin but don’t fill it to the top, just so that it’s easier to clean. ❤️

So they do have a mat wax that dose not have a shine and over time the wood will soak up the wax and it will dull down looks fabulous ❤👍

I'm not sure why you changed the counter top I much perfer the original one as its so easy to keep clean. Don't get me wrong I do like wooden counter but not near where water is. Time will tell how they stand up. Your kitchen is beautiful!!

Hi lovely, I just LOVE your kitchen. The new countertop is beautiful. Can I ask you, did you seal your stone backsplash with anything to protect it from cooking stains?

Thanks so much!! Yes, we still need to seal it but we want to clean the stones properly first to get the excess grout off - time time time 😁🙈 The suppliers of the stone have their own matte sealer that they sell which works like a charm and doesn’t change the colour of the stone.

Try steelwool to remove the shine on the countertop, the one we used to clean pots back then. It is not too abrasive.

😂 we decided to take the quartz off the island and had it cut to fit the scullery, as we really wanted a warm wood island

Use a Matt varnish

So scared of varnish as it turns yellow over time. I got a contact for a matte clear wood oil that apparently doesn’t change the colour - I’ll have to explore that route. 😁

You should have given it mat lacker. Then it would not have changed how it looks.
