I've made a ton of these without the pattern, but I'm tried of marking and guessing at the darts so I bought these rulers. I may not round all of the corners, but at least I can cut the darts and they will all be even! Great tutorial.

Love a bowl cosy! Just perfect for ice cream! I like to use a hera marker for rounding out the seams -- just may be my favourite tool of the moment ❣

I've made several of these. I do not leave a space on the top rounded part. I leave a straight side open and it's so much easier to hide the top stitching. But this is a helpful and clear tutorial. Thank you.

Yes and the larger bowl cozy is a 16 x 16 fabric square. 😊

Can I ask why cannot use basting spray?

People tend to put these right in the microwave with the bowl nested inside. So the basting spray is glue and we don't want that in the microwave.

It's to make a large bowl cozy.

This is the first tutorial I've seen that didn't sew an 'X' on both sides first. Can you share why you didn't need to do so.

You can do that if you like. To my understanding, people who are sewing the 'X' are using it as 'quilting' so the print fabric and batting can stay in place together. Since it's a small project, I personally don't think you necessarily need it, but it is a nice touch to do as well. ☺️

I think of using two battings instead of one would mean more insulation from the heat. But it's of course your preference. ☺️

If you're using these to hold a hot bowl or a cold bowl of ice cream, and they're not going to go in the microwave, then you don't have to worry about your materials being 100% cotton.
