I'm on 1 mg finasteride for 7 month now. Zero side effects and my hair improved dramatically in this relatively short amount of time. I just regret not starting sooner. Don't listen to the trolls. Side effects are really rare. The depression from loosing your hair is pretty real though.
@MrMSS22

I tried finasteride multiple times. 1mg daily, then reduced to .5mg and .25mg every other day. Every "troll" doctor who subscribed it recommended not to use it. Extreme tiredness while the drug was in the system. Made a blood test of different hormones. Progesterone was 3x higher than the upper limit of the range. Stopped fin and it went back to normal. 5-alpha-reductase not only influences DHT, it influences a bunch of neurosteroids. Glad you do not feel any of the secondary effects, that does not deny the mechanism of action though.

side effects i receive from fin are literally depression though lol, brought on from hormonal imbalance. not everyone that disagrees with you is a troll. Everyones body is different, some require lower dosage for the same effect. I have to stop for a few days anytime it gets bad, it's a systemic drug that builds up over time, so its easy to have too much in your system. Should add that the effects are really not rare, with its widespread adoption there's wayy more people reporting them, yet most don't post about them, or are too embarrassed to.

I've been using the serum of reactivate from litlllextra for the last month and completely moved away from my old serum for the past two months. It's working great. I simply use it once daily with the spray pump that comes with the serum. It's really simple to apply, not oily, and without any fragrance. The hair growth is up till now so good, and it's only 1 month only and I plan to keep to apply it.

Oral minoxidil has been a game changer for me. I am actually on 3.25mg but started at 1.25mg 3 years ago. Yes, I have hair growing "everywhere" but that also includes thicker, longer eyelashes and eyebrows which is a huge positive for this over 50 lady. Any excess facial hair is easy to just shave off. It's just more peach fuzz and not dark. I was on DHT blockers in the beginning but for the last couple of years have only been on minoxidil and have seen great results.

Please just remember minoxidil will NOT prevent further hairloss, it just modulates the hair growth cycle leading to perceived thicker hair. If you suffer from androgenic alopecia and you're not using a DHT blocker concurrently, your hair follicles will inevitably miniaturize and die

Trying both Rogaine applied and oral Minoxidil. Have been taking oral for about 2 months typically 1.25g/1x day, but sometimes 1.25g/2x. Decided compound the oral with Rogaine being applied 2x/day (once in the morning, once in the evening before bed). I have taken photos a couple years ago, then a year ago, then monthly most recently. I can confirm, even after 2 months (for ME), there is SIGNIFICANT hair growth....which I'm very thankful for. As the Doctor said...I just would not look good bald (I have a baby face). I look forward to the next 4 months and how it is going to look by Christmas!! Fingers Crossed. p.s. - Oh, there has been no real side-effects noticed....for ME (again everyone and their body is difference). Again, thankful.

@Amp_Expert
@Amp_Expert 8 ай бұрын
@@hshdhdahshs9905 Well, looking at the photos over the last year, the hair definitely seems to appear to be filling in! Over the course of a year, it's significant enough to notice, but not enough to fill in. But preliminarily, a positive solution. I can't quantify things as I did not formally note what was used when other than it was a mix of originally topical, then when I found out about oral, I was taking both. Then I had significant side effects like feeling head pressure constantly, so stopped taking the topical and just the oral, but there still seemed to be this brain pressure. I said I would continue to take oral until the holidays, which would make total time 9 months and figure out what's up from there. I found the oral effect where Meh and brain pressure totally related to the oral, so once I stopped taking mid-December to now mid-Feb, I feel fine and back to myself, so can correlate it back to taking Minoxidil and not taking anything! I think I would like to go back and try the topical. If any effect, I'll discontinue. I'll take one last stab before scrapping the endeavor and just looking for a full head wig I'm thinking and call it a day. The Minoxidil did fill things in like the balding on the top of the head, but the receeded hairline back about 4-6"....you're not doing to get anything I'm thinking and did not see as the folicals probably completely died. Everybodys body is different and I have HBP, so may be different for other and maybe not the head thing. The thing I liked beside helping fill in hair was the BP. When I don't take my HBP medication, it's 160/115-ish. When I take it, it's 120-130/90-95. Taking Minoxidil along with it, Brought the second number down and 120/80, which I really liked. Hope this helps!

I'm on 5mg of oral Minoxidil and after about 6 weeks is when I noticed my shedding start to drop. I used to cringe at having to wash my hair only to see tons of hair on my hands. Not anymore. My young daughter - mid-twenties - started losing her hair in her late teens/early twenties. I have taken her to a wonderful dermatologist who did a scalp bx and confirmed androgenic alopecia. She even sent her to an endocrinologist just to be sure she wasn’t missing anything (and I took her to a gynecological endocrinologist as well to rule out PCOS). She takes oral minoxidil, finasteride, spironolactone. It has slowed the loss but has not helped with regrowth. It breaks my heart, she was so hopeful that the treatments might help, and every month that goes by without any growth is just so hard. It’s been over a year without much to show for it. I try to take her shopping for fun wigs, but the little girl with hair long enough to sit on has become a beautiful young woman who just wants to shave her head and be done with it.

These drugs are iffy sometimes because they mess with bloodflow which is why hairloss usually happens in the first place. Only alternative then is to strengthen the heart with moderate exercise and if arteries have any plaque, do fasting and diet change to try and clear it out as much as possible to get that bloodflow to the scalp.

I went to several doctors back in my 20s to figure out my hair loss, including one guy who was supposed to be such an expert that his waiting list was a year long. The hope I had, walking in there, only for him to look for 15 seconds and say "sorry, female pattern hair loss, try rogaine, here's the bill"... It wasn't until my mid/later 30s that I discovered on my own that PCOS was the culprit. I'm still so enraged over what a useless cow those doctors were. It's too late for me to get any help for the hair olive lost, since those follicles are dead; but yeah, growing more of it all over the rest of my body is not what I need. And how ironic, that we can grow plenty of the shit EVERYWHERE except where we need it!!!

The only side effects I had were a slight elevation in prolactin which was brought down by taking chaste tree, and yes some increased body hair, but for me that isn't an amount that bothered me and is such a small price to pay. I wouldn't let concerns about body hair growth put you off trying it because it'll look different for everyone. So worth it 😊

@@MrKukec yes, just a very small scalp biopsy to look at the hair follicle, like 1x1cm under a local anaesthetic. This is how a diagnosis can be given, but depending on how you present it might not be necessary. I have female pattern hair loss which they could tell just by looking, but also chronic telogen effluvium which they can determine conclusively by looking at the shape of the hair follicle - it becomes spoon shaped. There's a lot of info they can get from a biopsy :) (I'm very lucky to live in Australia where this was all very cheap and/or free so having a biopsy for skin stuff is pretty standard here)

I used topical 5% minoxidil 1x day for 3 to 4 yrs with zero adverse symptoms, no irritation. Rosemary oil has done wonders for me. I heard that there are studies that back this up. I didn't bother to read any of them but simply tried it and it works awesome. I put it where I need it and let it sit for 30min-3hours then wash normally and it has grown in where I put the oil. I do it once a week. 20 drops of rosemary oil in a carrier oil (castor, olive jojoba etc). I also do scalp massage a few times a week. My hair dresser has been verifying that I do, in fact, have a ton of new hair growth from this protocol. I'm interested in this suggestion too. I tried out 5mg finasteride years ago but it seemed to make things worse somehow, so I stopped taking it. I've been on 200mg spironolactone for many years and it hasn't encouraged new growth (like minoxidil does), it has slowed the shedding though. Bicalutamide sounds good from what I've read, seems it's almost never prescribed to women (same with finasteride), which is odd to me because the most common side effect with those don't apply to women, and if using a reliable form of birth control then I don't see why more women can't be prescribed it 🤷 should be an option for menopausal women at least!
@InimeKai
@InimeKai Жыл бұрын
@@Aerieana it should be an option for woman in general. We're not all interested in having kids, it's infantalizing and sexist for them to treat us like baby making machines and deny us these prescriptions. Spironolactone is also dangerous for pregnant women, yet they don't deny us that prescription and we do not need to use birth control at the same time so long as we guarantee we are not trying to become pregnant. The logic makes no sense.
@Aerieana

@@InimeKai I absolutely agree with you. The endocrinologist who prescribed me the finasteride knew I wasn't on any kind of birth control at the time, of course she warned me about the risks if I did fall pregnant but trusted me enough to prescribe it anyway. Eventually I got an IUD because I started to get worried that other endocrinologists I sometimes saw in place of her might deny a refill request of the finasteride. I don't regret getting the IUD but I shouldn't have felt I needed to do that, I wasn't even sexually active at the time or for years afterwards. this comment shows that you dont know the difference between finasteride and minoxidil. Minoxidil will last only a year or two, because it doesnt address the root causes of hairloss, which is genetic usually. Only anti androgens can stop hairfall, and minoxidil is not one of them
@Zakkary
@Zakkary Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately if you're a male this will not last. You need a DHT blocker, whether you like it or not. You may maintan your hair for 4, maybe even 10 years on minoxidil but your hairloss will eventually catch up to you and then it will be too late because you will never get that hair back (even on minoxidil). This is mainly due to the fact that minoxidil stimulates hair growth which will just hide your loss of hair. If you are a male i'd actually recommend finasteride (or dut) over minoxidil if you had to pick once, since finasteride might not give regrowth but will definitely completely halt or significantly slow hairloss. If you are not responding well to finasteride low dose it or get on a topical immediately, if not prepare to be bald fully in the next 6 years (which is fine if you are okay with that, just stating facts).

Not necessarily, as long as the root cause condition is sorted out - and there's nothing to cause the new Terminal (Mature and Permanent) Hairgrowth to fall off. It is a misconcepcion that minoxidil hairgrowth isnt permanent and it only sprung because the initial use for minoxidil was for scalp growth for Progressive Male Pattern baldness. The scalp growth seen from minoxidil in this condition often fall out after stopping because nothing had hindered or inhibited the 'progressive hairloss' or the root cause of why the hair is thinning in the first place. Now its often prescribed for Men* to incorporate both Topical Minoxidil (to promote Hairgrowth) and oral/topical Finasteride (to lessen, stop or inhibit Hairfall - mainly by inhibiting DHT sensitivity, which is the main cause of male pattern baldness) to treat MPB. Do take note that this is the treatment for Men only, as Finasteride is a prostate issues medication. Also take note that whether Oral or Topical Minoxidil may cause hairgrowth in other parts of your body the more the medication goes systemic, which would mean more hairgrowth in the arms, underarms, legs, pubic area, etc. in generak specially in the care of Oral Minoxidil. People had used Topical minoxidil for years to promote facial hair growth, and for people who had grown enough terminal facial hairs gets to keep what theyve grown long term since MPB doesnt affect hair growth nor promote more hairloss on other parts of the body besides the hairline and the scalp. Lastly, Minoxidil is a High Blood Pressure medication, a bit of an aggressive vasodilator thats not often the first line of precription for Blood Pressure issues, so in any case you have existing issues concerning your heart or your cardiovascular system then its best to consult a cardiologist or specialist before starting Oral Minoxidil.

Oral minoxidil can indeed lead to fluid buildup around the heart (pericardial effusion), as it acts as a vasodilator by opening potassium channels. This systemic effect can cause widespread vasodilation, leading to fluid retention and increased cardiac workload, potentially resulting in fluid accumulation around the heart. Topical minoxidil, however, primarily affects local scalp areas and has minimal systemic absorption, which significantly reduces the risk of such side effects. Therefore, the risk of pericardial effusion is much lower with the topical form compared to the oral form of minoxidil.

I've been taking in low dosage and in my case it didn’t increase my body hair at all... so you cannot correlate on thing to another without testing the true cause of that body hair growth. Try lower the mg.

I haven't tried oral minoxidil yet, and just have been applying on my hair with 1mg finasteride. I might consider taking oral one as well. Thank you for the information.

It throws out your hair, initially then hair growth grows elsewhere, which I didn’t mind, but I didn’t want to lose my original hair, but this medicine pushes out your hair, when you first use it, I got scared and stopped, not to mention the puffy eye lids, a negative for me, on spironlactone and hrt now 😊

I like your videos, they are very informative! However, in this case, I wonder what a cardiologist says about taking oral Minoxidil by someone who doesn't suffer of high blood pressure. Minimal doses doesn't meant that the heat won't suffer in the long run.

Lol, I worked in a hair transplant clinic and the surgeon prescribed oral minoxidil for like 85% of the patients. The surgeon hated topical minoxidil because it caused micro scarring to the scalp which made any hair transplants super difficult because the scalp was described to feel like leather. Also on the note of scarring the surgeon also hated dermal rollers on the scalp due to the same reasons. I can’t do minoxidil it makes me light headed haha.

Most doctors will not repeat, will not prescribe you oral minoxidil. If you do not have that specific type of blood pressure issue no matter how minimal it is it can be dangerous and lower your blood pressure if you don’t have high blood pressure or that specific type of high blood pressure.
