as a person that knows a lot about battery.. this 410mah wont last you in the long run and specially on cold weather it wont hold its charge much long ..depending on use im sure this battery life span probably 2 years or less and capacity will degrade over time .. this cool but will see how the reviews and the long term use

I seen this on Daiwa's Japan's website yesterday. While I live in Japan, I don't read it. My take is, this is a big leap in reel technology. You will have to keep the battery charged to use the cast control modes. You don't need to use the app to change the modes however as there is a button below the light for that. This reminds me when the "T3" was introduced with it's 3mode cast control and the new T-wing system. I would say it's a glimpse into Daiwa's future. Well the reel is nice, I personally don't need a DC system so this isn't as exciting to me as others.

Even if this reel by itself is top the line reel, I personally just don't see why you should pay 1k for app connect. Really does seem to me the cost is mainly to get back on development than reels actualy cost. But I guess we'll see when it comes out.

def a lot more sophisticated then the shimano DC in my opinion since u cant actually hook ur phone up to ur DC shimano like u can with the limit breaker but. I think for people who may not understand reel tuning may have even more difficulty using this reel. Unless they're making it super simple to tune on the phone and understand what setting is best for the weight ur casting.

Hard pass. I’ll stick with DC. I don’t want to rely on my phone to adjust the braking. Seems ridiculous. My phone dies, then I’m fucked. DC automatically decides what I need, which is all anyone needs. The lights are neat tho. I do appreciate the samurai style promotion on the website. It’s pretty cool.

@@ChrisJu3 thats not bad.. but over time it will get less as the battery degrades..depending on use and storage and the voltage storage of the battery.. battery dont like to be fully charge stored or low..im sure this is running a lipo style battery and have a low voltage cut off or else battery will be killed after one charge.. im guessing this battery will have a life span of less then 2 years depending how much you cycle the battery and climate temp where its being used ... next thing you know your cast wont be like 800, it will go down as the battery capacity goes down over time . im sure its easy to replace and cheap

DC reels don't really appeal to me. I love my metaniums. I certainly don't think reels need lights for any reason. It's really unnecessary and " extra". I've got a new zillion sv tw that's also pretty sweet. Until something comes out that doesn't have that digital whine, or lights, and casts better than the 20' Mets or the zillion that's where I'll stay. I appreciate you bringing us the new drops though!!

I think it can NOT be called a DAIWA DC (as in DIGITAL CONTROL). There is a fair chance that SHIMANO has a patent on this technology AND the name DC made a concept and so its a protected trademark. Baitrunner and a link with BR is protected according so. You can call it Bite&Run, Bollie Robber or whatever but Baitrunner can't BE on a Reel with a FREE-Spool line release system.

The last thing I want to do is pull my phone out to adjust my brakes. I go fishing to try to avoid the freaking phone in the first place. As of now I don't plan on giving up my 10 Exsence DCs. I even just picked up a new one and I'm not regretting it. Hopefully Daiwa will sell a lot so Shimano will have to react to some competition in this space.

I like it when there’s variation in reel selection because I enjoy knowing that I have something more unique. I think uniformity and commonality are overrated . But that’s just me

It is hard to make a BFS DC reel because the spool shaft contains the magnets. The sideplate contains the copper coils housing and the CPU. It is a system that needs these two components to interact and at least one of the halves need to be on the spool. Even on the new Exsence DC with the MGL spool, the spool weight is way out of normal BFS range. It is still pretty capable of BFS, but not extreme BFS.

I’ve never found an advantage in the dc reels, it’s just extra weight. I have the new zillion fantastic reel that never backlashes. I started throwing a baitcaster when I was 10. 34 years later I’ve pretty well got them figured out and if I don’t no fancy pants reel is gonna help me. I use Lews, shimano, and Daiwa and very happy with all of them. I do believe you get what you pay for so I do tend to focus on the higher end models. I don’t take my phone fishing with me so I guess this is a dealbreaker for me and this reel. Great video 👍🏻

Given its price, weight, and that you need to charge it to use it... HARD PASS! This is not ready for primetime fishing!!! Plus I don't like the idea of lithium batteries in a reel that will get bounced around in a boat locker and deck constantly exposed to water. Any damage to its battery is going to cause a nasty short and fire in your hands. (Yes, i know we have lithium batteries in our boats, but these are strapped down and protected in a compartment reducing the likelihood of this happening. Plus you won't be holding those batteries in your hands. Same with cell phones, we put them in cushioned cases and make sure they are not bounced around like a rod & reel would be). Sorry, just can't ever see using this reel.
