NEW DETAILS: Nissan 400Z Turbo (RZ34 Fairlady) at Nissan Design Studio

We learn new details about the NISSAN 400Z (aka Z Proto, Z35 Fairlady w turbocharged V6 engine) w SUNG KANG (Tokyo Drift), CODY WALKER (Fast & Furious), SEAN LEE (Purist Group founder), prototype car designer TROY SUMITOMO (Five Axis), and KZbinr sisters Tanya & Christina Roki.
After our good friend Larry Chen from Hoonigan Autofocus shot the Z Proto in Downtown LA, the Z35 was brought to Nissan's Design Center in San Diego CA for a special reveal for the members of the Purist Group.

I don't know what I like the most. Either the Nissan 400 Z or the Infinity Q50/Q60 Red Sport 400. I have owned a Ford Mustang and being in the Midwest and learning from the past I am leaning toward the Red Sport 400 for that same reason. Rear wheel drive is nice until you have about a foot of snow and ice to deal with !

The front bumper looks unfinished but other than that I think the Z looks great. To me it looks like the Z34 chassis underneath. Which isnt a bad thing as the Z34 handles extremely well. It just needed more power. If Im not mistaken I think 2 Z34s finished 1st and 3rd in class at the 2014 Dubai 24 hour race.

I think it will start at 45,000 but also come fairly loaded. Maybe a fully optioned one around 49,000. I think a later nismo version will be in the mid 50 thousand range with perhaps 450 hp.

@@MotorMavens yes that’s what I read too, that the Mustang handled really well. After test driving one, I felt it didn’t handle well as my Z did, but the power did draw me in. First mods I did to the car was tires, Ford performance track suspension, steeda subframe braces, differential bushings, subframe alignment kit and strut brace. This way the car handles in the corners and stays straight and not hit crowds of people lol.

From what I've seen Nissan to keep costs down is reusing the Solid FM Chassis of 370z and Doing An Evolution of the Z Similar to What Porsche has Always done with the 911....Keeping what works and do Improvements on Problem Area's....the Interior was Super Long Overdue for an Upgrade....The Exterior needs some fine tuning to be Slightly More Aggressive to Steal Supra Sales....and I think there should be a 3 Engine Option .....the Base Model Naturally Aspirated V6 (3.7) @ $30-32k and the 3.0ltr Twin Turbo 400hp V6 around $35-40k .... then the Nismo Model being a 3.2-3.5ltr TT and 450-500hp at around $45k.....Trying to Price the Car Similar to the Supra would be Death Blow to Nissan.

Great points, but i can't see the 3.7 sticking around much longer with emissions and downscaling motors being in fashion ATM. They may opt to do a strategy like the Q50/q60 now and offer the 300hp 3.0t, or 400hp 3.0t.

Hence they left room in the front and rear bumper for multiple improvements from kits as well as a nice spot for a hatch mounted spoiler but for track dynamics I would go the chassis mounted route it'd be sickkk. And building and tuning the engine and possible swap potential is limitless. Or at least I hope. I need to see that engine bay asap!

I think the designers of the newsy had the right idea. However they didn’t quite capture the attractiveness or appeal of the exterior that they could’ve done. In my opinion they could’ve made the tail lights a little bigger and more slanted and also they could’ve made the front headlights different and the front grill. They should’ve also made it with a 2+2 interior seating to give the driver and passenger a little bit more interior space like the old 1991 300 ZX.

@@MotorMavens While the yellow harkens back to the classic model, truth be told, I saw a depiction of a White version that the Nismo model may possibly look like... And I rather dug it. I'd probably go for something like that, the white with the black/red accents.

I grew up with JDM, all my homies had like honda civics and integra they just drag race. I Personally love the Skyline model. I heard the Z model especially the LS inline 6 engine.

@@MotorMavens I didn’t, US California LB on my block I saw people with RhD and drag racing this was in the 90s-80s the car culture was more “underground.” I still deeply appreciate Japanese cars were well engineered engines, getting the most hp while being effectively economical.

@@MotorMavens niceeee! I grew up in the 90s and dreaming to have a s2000 or a RHD Honda Civic 😂. Cars, is just a huge money pit, but it’s so fun, when it comes to understanding engines etc, I use to study and was majored in mechanical engineering. I still enjoy cars and doing my own maintenance. Plus I believe that everyone should learn how to fix and repair items. My side hustle is fixing electronics, I see people trash older model phone when it still operate well, same with cars, especially cars when automobile was meant to build to last, all of the thick metal etc. electronics are more prone to braking due to small parts overworking and heat. Yea, idk it’s just fun for me.

Honestly, Nissan got to change the headlights and the front grill and give it a more evolutionary look then a fat looking rectangular grill with new light shapes. It’s kind of pulling away from the old heritage. Just my opinion. Other than that, the car’s body is awesome!👍

They really need to polish the uninspired front end, and paint the rest of the car to match the body paint instead of leaving non matching colors. Either way body is still 60% 20+ year 350-70z old body style but cheaper looking. And lets not ignore the mustang rear inspired design smh

I think it really captures the old and blends it into the new...a couple of things that I wish were different, but its just my preference...the headlights and front grill. ,maybe they will grow on me but right off, I don't care for the "face" it gives head on... lastly the dash looks sweet but I'd love to see a more 3 dimensional look to the gauges..they just look Very flat on that display... other than those things, its sweet looking, from side view and rear its killer...Love to see other colors presented, metallic blue or dark charcoal ect... great job, like a car made for the fans!

I disagree with everything except the nismo version. If the car doesn't come out with a nismo package im not going to buy it. I need my z to be touched by the nismo gods. Personally, I hate convertibles for not only safety reasons, but maintenance and upkeep of the top. I dont like constantly greasing rods so it doesnt break on me. Also to me, coupes just look alot sleeker than convertibles.

Talk about the engine design please and why they are not including cylinder sleeves? The plasma lined bores are ridiculous If any internal parts deteriorate you will have to replace the entire engine!!

Concept ok. But the actual selling model better look way more aggressive! The interior looks good and the fact that it's turbos option is good,but truth is people are just like yeah it looks great good design butt it's not blowing people away with its look. I've bin waiting for the 400Z to arrive. But now I just might go elsewhere unless they come out with a new design. I mean even i can probably draw up one that turns heads and speaks volumes. A design that let's the world know that one day the Z will reach the 850Z supercar V8tt monster. For now the 400Z has balls but not the look to match.

well the good news is, you can! Z33 350Z is dirty cheap now, and has a ton of aftermarket potential. the Z34 370Z is still pricy depending on the year/model, but is still a great choice - especially right now if you were going to finance a new one from a dealer
