While I haven't had the opportunity to do a full-fledged campaign yet, I finally got to try out your house rules for group fire, as well as the Recon mission scenario, and I loved it! The game itself was an absolute nail-biter, with the attacker very nearly escaping with the scanned data before being taken down just a hex away from the board edge. Not only do your house-rules really ramp up the carnage (especially when you have pilots with Gunnery 2 or 3), but it tremendously speeds up the game-- we were able to get in a 15 round game in just under 3 hours! I'm going to put up a full batrep on my channel soon, and hopefully the meager handful of followers I have will check you guys out.

When you guys go through the what we are bringing process, how do you account for vehicles and infantry. What I mean is, you agree to a 4 mech per side battle. One player wants to have a mix of mechs and vehicles or throw in a karnov with a couple infantry stands. How many mechs do you drop to make room for vehicles or infantry or just go straight BV and not worry about making things even numbers-wise?
@DeathfromAboveWargaming4 жыл бұрын
I think what you are looking for is Alpha Strike 😉 but jokes aside, just balance by BV in that case.

An interesting change to your skill rule. If your leader(2/3) gets killed someone gets promoted after assuming the roll with no change for one engagement. This promoted character, makes one shift up in tier. I say one shift in tier, because it could be possible that you only have greens left. However if all you have is greens, perhaps the "new green commander" gains tactical advantages initiatives. To try and maintain some power offset for the entire campaign cycle. I do like what you guys do with your maps. I would like to see, perhaps, a game that includes all of the calculations to show my son. That said I love the way you calculate off camera and feed us the meat and potatoes of the match.

when you are playing small battles (company or smaller), bv is a solid tool for unit construction. when you are playing battalion and larger, the better system is c-bills. any good campaign will never have balanced battles. each objective should be broken down into the following steps. 1. Mechwarrior: gather Intel about the objective. (forces, defenses, special details) 2. determine the forces you are committing to the mission. (this has nothing to do with bv, but your allocation of troops) 3. assign any special roll units (artillery, aero, reinforcements) 4. conduct mission 5. outcome (success or failure) 6. repairs, reloads and salvage next mission!
@DeathfromAboveWargaming3 жыл бұрын
Love the comment! I think balanced battles are a necessity for some gaming styles… but I agree there is a cinematic appeal to imbalanced games!
@sachad9643 жыл бұрын
another campaign way you could run would be start the campaign with 10 mechs and start on a large map and at the start place 4 mechs each and every 10 turns you each get 2 more mechs 40 turns or make the last section 15 turns long. if you have more then 2 players every set of 10 turns new players take over

A quick question for clarification please? When repairing a destroyed location on a mech, does the cost of repairs to the internal structure also cover any actuator critical hits taken in that location previously? For instance, if an actuator in an arm is critically hit and then later that same arm is eventually destroyed, do I pay the cost of that actuator on top of the structure cost for repairs? Or does fully repairing the structure also repair any actuators housed within that arm? I understand why you'd have to pay extra for any weapons or heat sinks, but I'm not sure about the actuators. Thanks in advance!
@DeathfromAboveWargaming4 жыл бұрын
Hey man! So in the example where the arm is completely destroyed, you would need to pay for the internal structure, all actuators, any other critical components in the arm, and then armor. The exception here is when the arm is severed with a critical roll of “12” - then you would just pay for whatever was damaged prior to it being blown clean off. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!
@brianhenry1524 жыл бұрын
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming Hey, thanks for the quick reply! One follow up question, so if a weapon is critically hit once, you'd only need to pay the 20 SP right? But if it's in a destroyed section, then you'd have to pay 20 per slot total?
@DeathfromAboveWargaming4 жыл бұрын
Exactly. So for example, if there is a PPC in the arm (3 slots) that was destroyed, you’d have to cover 60 SP for repairs. But if the PPC just takes one critical hit and the arm is intact, you’d only be on the hook for 20 SP.

I was searching through the net for alternate CC systems. Yours seem very nice. I am reading as I write this, and the reason I came here, in the first place is because I found an inconsistency. Page. 1 states that a 4/5 pilot is green when in fact he is regular. Likewise a 3/4 is a veteran (and not regular as stated in the pdf).
@DeathfromAboveWargaming5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking it out and appreciate the feedback. At DFA we have some house rules and “upgun” the skill level of our pilots. Using RAW skill pilots can make for an abysmal game with a lot of missing... 😁
@nikmaza65155 жыл бұрын
Also you state that buying a Pilot costs 30 SP. I suppose you used the CC:SW pricing (which also includes that healing a would costs 100 SP). Keep in mind that this is a mix up. The corrected cost of buying a pilot is 100 SP (and healing one wound is 30 SP (as was printed in Campaign Operations). If you visit the original forums (errata section for CC:SW) you will see that they acknowledged the error. On the other hand, your 30 SP price might be a coincidence and it's just a number that is working for you, so just ignore my previous sentence :)

I’ll double check - but take a look at the latest printing of the chaos campaign rules (its a standalone pdf that came out a couple months back, not the addendum in campaign ops).

Dear DFA, I played Battletech in the '80 when it came out and loved it then. Glad to see someone with a fresh take on it. A couple of questions about the system: what are the mech warrior multipliers that you add? Where do I find those values? Secondly, do you think that your system has room for the mech 'Design quirks' and mech warrior 'quirks' www.scrapyardarmory.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Mechwarrior-Quirks-ScrapYardArmory-.pdf Anyway good job fellas. Send a good quality t-shirt to Australia will ya, I hate ordering online.
@DeathfromAboveWargaming5 жыл бұрын
Hey - thanks for the comment. We looked at quirks, and while it’s really cool in concept, I think it sort of ends up being “just another rule” you’ve gotta remember... and many of them don’t have tangible in-game impacts (they don’t always apply, or maybe are geared towards the RPG). Maybe down the road we will take another look at it! As for the MechWarrior multipliers - what do you mean? Are you taking about the modifier for improvements to piloting and gunnery? If so, they are in the Tech Manual for sure, but also in Total Warfare I believe. In either case, we love using Solaris Skunkwerks. It has a force builder that’ll do all the math for you!
@barker2625 жыл бұрын
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming The multiplier I'm on about is from your DFA campaign doc page 1, Force Battle Value: ABV can be determined for each unit modified by the average piloting and gunnery, times force size. Then it give an example: ...1000 BV then modifiy that by the average pilot for the campaign (gunner 3/4 piloting). This results in a modified average of 1380 BV (1000 x 1.2 x 1.15). How are those two multipliers derived, the 1.2 and the 1.15. I realise they are somehow related to the respective scores of gunnery/piloting, but are they listed anywhere for reference. Lets say you used green only pilots 4/5 what are their multipliers? Or the elites you mention, the 2/3 pilots. I can look it up myself of course, but where?

Hi guys, so I’ve been looking over the campaign rule download and have a question. In determining the BV of a fielded mech it seems that there is a multiplier for both piloting and gunnery skill values that then gets applied to the base BV of the mech. Where would I find a chart or reference to know what the specific multipliers are based upon the skill levels involved? (It comes up in the campaign rules under determining the BV value for the campaign as a whole.... something like 1000 x 1.2 x 1.15 in the example.) Is this referenced in one of the sourcebooks or is it of your own creation?
