A hydraulic front auger is SO much nicer than a 3 point PTO driven one. You can quickly turn it on and off, reverse it if it gets stuck, do not have to turn around to see it, have easier control over placement, and have down pressure.

Thank you so much for the upload! I just purchased one of these Digga’s last year and haven’t had a chance to use it! We got the 1dds version. Just purchased and rebuilt a kubota L35 (35HP) tractor and we are very excited to put it to use! Paid 5000$ for the tractor but spent the last 4 months rebuilding it! I purchased a third function kit that is 3/8” size but just learned I may have to trade it out for 1/2” size kit! I was worried that I would have issues with shock loading from the on/off switch but decided the Digga was in no danger since my tractor is 1/3 the max GPM and max out at 2500 PSI.

Awesome. That should work out well on your tractor. FYI, I’m using 1/2” couplers but my lines are only 3/8”. If I’m not mistaken, 3/8” lines can handle the flow just fine.

Looks awesome. Beats the heck out of a rear 3 point one with no down pressure.

Oh yeah. It’s a HUGE improvement. I was kinda forced into the purchase. We were building a deck around our pool and I couldn’t drill some of the holes that needed to be close to the pool. The tractor would’ve been up on a bank, not at a good angle, and could not have went deep enough. That’s not mentioning the fear of the 3pt auger smacking the pool wall.

Technically it still has no down pressure as long as it's on that 3rd function kit
@user-ek7nq4by7z

@rodordie That's inaccurate. It's not a diverter valve; it's separate from the loader valves. I have that exact tractor with the same 3rd function/QD setup and I can run the 3rd function while operating the FEL.

Are you happy with the 2DDS over the 1DDS? I have the same implement hydraulic flow, ~8.x gpm and am trying to decide between the two drives, choosing auger RPM vs torque. Do you ever wish you had a higher auger RPM, and have you ever stalled out the 2DSS? I wonder if a higher RPM would help prevent the auger from screwing directly into the ground instead of removing dirt and digging the hole, or just screw in faster. I am mostly red clay here, not many rocks. How do you like using 2" round auger bits vs hex? Seems like the hex augers are heavier duty, but that might not really be needed. Round sure are a lot cheaper.

NICE!!! I LIKE it!!!! Looks like your tractor handles it very well, Jared! That`s one of those kinda tools i wish i had, BUT, i cant see the money it costs just to use it once or twice in my entire life. WAIT, oh chit... wife just saw your video... she wants me to replace ALL the old fence along our property this coming summer. Maybe i could just rent one. 😮‍💨 Orrrrrrrrr, you could come dig the holes, for me! ☺
@JaredsShop
@JaredsShop 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I like it too. I thought about renting also but unfortunately all of the ones at the rental yard are for high flow units and it wouldn’t turn very fast. I had several post to dig for our pool and couldn’t get to them with the 3pt auger so this was worth the purchase. Let me know where you are and I’d be happy to come dig! 😁 I haven’t even shown the cool features yet. That auger slides from side to side so you can place it anywhere on the plate you want.

It will turn it with no issue. You have more gpm than I. It is a Digga 2DSS and I purchased it from the local rental place, that happens to rent Digga and is a reseller for them. EA also sells them.

Looks like hooking up the auger to the drive would be easier with two people. I’m thinking of buying one of these to fit to my tractor. The tractor is similar to yours, a little bigger but I’d imagine with similar hydraulic flow. The question is whether it’s worth it. I’m planting trees on my place and get a fellow to come in with his excavator. In half a day he can dig 300 holes, remove a few stumps and do some cleaning up of stuff. This costs me $500. In Australia the sort of auger set in this video costs around $3500. So it’s a question I’m pondering.
@JaredsShop
@JaredsShop 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it would be easier with two people but it is still manageable with one. I’ve changed bits several times and have always done it by myself. I just try to set the auger so it isn’t too high so I don’t have to lift the bit much. That’s a tough decision. One of the biggest reasons I decided to purchase one instead of renting or hiring was because I wanted to be on my own schedule. I knew a lot of my work wasn’t going to be done in one day. Most of the time I am only drilling a couple holes here and a few holes there. To rent or hire those tasks would end up costing me more in the long run. I now have the convenience of doing tasks when I want and not being at the mercy of someone else. My auger setup, without bits, was around $2500. They’ve went up quite a bit since then. Luckily Digga is an Australian company. I would bet it would be more expensive if the augers had to be imported.

We purchased our tractor last year which is a big financial outlay. Initially we were going to get a Digga auger drive but decided not to as the tractor delivery was delayed and we had holes dug by the contractor. In my orchard trees do sometimes die and need replacement. It’s not much fun digging a hole by hand. We will dig ten holes next month to replace dead or damaged trees. Possibly we will come to a decision while digging them..... Love your videos.

It came from Digga and was purchased with the auger drive. It is an option and cost just a little bit more but it was worth it. I had to use it on a couple holes that was close to our pool. Digga calls it a side shift skid steer mount. The regular is called the fixed position mount.

I need to do a follow-up. As soon as I have a need to drill some holes I will. The ground I was digging was kinda soft and gooey, which is why it screwed down into it. It can be so painful. I purchased mine at an auction years ago and never gave any thought to a hydraulic auger.
