I think why this was released is because the Ronin S is mostly supposed to replace the Ronin M for anyone who is a single man run and gun DSLR shooter and this one is just for smaller mirrorless cameras and a OP phone gimbal at a slightly cheaper price point for it to be more accessible to the masses.

LITTLE TIP: There is actually a MODE which allow you to have this two modes you mention as a downside (flashlight and under sling mode). You have to only hold the trigger and as you holding then you can move your camera whatever angle you want. I like this gimbal a lot and I have to buy this gimbal for my Sony Alpha a6300. But overall nice sum up Matti, I enjoy this video and your thoughts on this gimbal. Keep going and film more videos like ths. :)

Regarding which camera you can use with the Ronin SC, here is my experience: The camera doesn't really matter, what matter is the lens, especially the length of the length, not so much the weight (unless camera plus lens is more than 2KG, which is rare). As a guideline, any DSLR or mirror less is fine if used with a prime lens. Most zooms lenses don't work, even with a light weight camera. As an example: my Nikon D850 (bulky DSLR) works with all my prime lenses (and I own many). My Panny DH4 (light mirror less) doesn't work with the Metabone and the Sigma 16-35

Sure it's a bit shaky with the heavy RF 24-105, but for running with an underslung gimbal and camera like that, it's nothing a bit of warp stabilizer can't take care of.

Huge fan of the Ronin-S, so I was quite interested to see what improvements they might have made. I’ve been looking for a light more travel friendly Gimbal, especially as my setup is the Sony a6500 so the Ronin-S is a little overkill at times. Might try it out.

Matti, yes the DJI Ronin SC has the ability do the fleshlight mode and underslung mode out of the box. However your EOS-R setup was too big for the Ronin SC that's why the cradle is too far back and hits the axis.

Yeah nobody mentions that what you just said in any of the videos. I just bought this thing in my Canon EOS R is way too big with anything but a small prime lens. The eyepiece hits the back of the gimbal just like you said. Time to keep shopping

I got my Ronin-S 6 weeks ago, going to see if I can return it because lighter and axis locking is exactly what I wanted but the Zhiyun Weebill Lab didn't work too good with my A6300 for some reason so I returned it and got the Ronin-S.

I've had the Ronin-S for a few months now. Won't be switching as the camera+video mic won't fit on the SC comfortably. I like that the S has some weight capacity left so that the balancing doesn't have to be as precise when i'm swapping lenses. I just can't lose all that functionality for just 750 grams less weight. so I guess that i'll just have to deal with the weight. In your case I woudn't make the swap either. Your set up without a microphone or anything else would be 1455 grams. With the S that would be 3.3 KG and with the SC 2.6. I don't think that will make the difference you are looking for. The most straining thing is the weird angle you have to hold the gimbal, it put's a lot of strain on your back, that doesn't change with the SC. Best solution is would be a gimbal vest, but I have seen cheaper solutions that give you a strap between the controls and the motors.

Yes. There is a gear-strap for still photo lenses included, so the motor can get a proper traction on your lens.

Quick question. I shoot with the Canon EOS R like you do and I'm using the 16 to 35. The only small lenses I have or a 35 mm and 85 mm Prime. The problem is that the gimbals not big enough in the eyepiece hits the back of the gimbal so I can only keep the gimbal in the upright position.

i used the ronin S with my 6D with battery grip + Small HD focus + heavy f2.8 L lens and nd filters and it managed to keep it stable, but i had to tweak the settings a lot because when it tilts more than about 35 degrees, it loses controll and smashes my camera with its lens against the ronin :/

Its the lens, the lens is pretty big so it pushes the camera further back when balancing it, thats why it hits the pan axis when trying to engage the under slung mode.

Hey man, I have a question about the Ronin SC that I desperately need answered, but cant find the answer any where online. I’ve seen a couple of videos of people using the ronin SC on a gh5 or gh4 with a metabones speedbooster and a sigma 18-35 mm lens. That lens is a bit front heavy for the SC, but one guy said he was able to mount the SC to the metabones instead which balanced it out more. Would you be able to confirm on that? The guy didn’t seem like the most knowledgeable.

Hello Matti, I need some help please: I own a 80D, however it is not at the compatibility list of the RONIN SC. Otherwise my gear may be hold by the gimbal so its weight is under 2kg. It seems to me that this gimbal is dedicated for mirrorless cameras, but my question is: ¿Will I have just limitations for using it on a DSLR, or the gimbal won't stabilize my 80 D at all for not being a mirrorless and also for not being at that "compatible camera list"?
